Remarks

The good thing about KIET has always been its academics and continuous improvement in facilities which is still going on, i am the member KIET CRPC outreach group and according to them, recently Airtel visited the campus and 11 students got placed , so futureis bright for the ones who will join KIET. It needs to improve on internship opportunities and research oriented studies.

Entrance Preview

A student can get an admit in Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology (KIET) after qualifying State Entrance Exam (SEE) which was UP-SEE when i appeared for it. The college is affiliated to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). KIET always remains at rank 1 or 2 among Top private institutes in NCR according to various surveys. I choose this college due to its academic stature. As compared to its close rivals it stands far apart. There is no interview process as such, once you crack the SEE, next step is counselling. To get and admit in Computer Science course of this college you need to have a rank at least under 5000, mine was a bit above 5000 don't remember exactly, but at max 5500 can fetch you an admit. Form my childhood i had a keen interest in computers so i opted for Computer Science and Engineering. However, if you somehow miss the State Entrance Exam don't loose hope, you can still get an admit. If you have an outstanding score in PCM in class 12th to be precise 95%, you can still apply for admission in the college. But in this decision solely depends on the management that which branch you will fall under as seats are very limited after counselling. Most of the students get EI, Civil, Electrionics, Mechanical, IT from this process. Getting CSE is a tough call through this process.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course structure is excellent. In first year we had a general curriculum which was related to the things we have studied in school. From second year onward everyone is separated to their respective divisions. In my department which was CSE, we had a balanced allotment of subjects. The books were standard and mostly at par with the esteemed universities of India ( IITs for instance). We were encouraged to opt a subject of interest and explore it to it max by publishing research papers. I was member of Computer Society of India which called for papers on various topics every year in our college. I wrote a paper on Fuzzy Logic which though did not qualify to be published in CSI but was on two places short from that(Only top 10 papers from various institutes get published). So, i am pretty satisfied from the course structure as i came out of college and compare it with other top notch universities i find the structure even better.

Internships Opportunities

KIET loses some points here as they were unable to provide good internships for all the streams. But, some of the students who have really good academics and reference of the HOD's can land in a good internship which has stipend as high ad 10000 INR. But, rest others were made to get internships but not with an stipend. I was an intern inn HCL Info-systems but it was the outcome of my personal efforts. But, it is a talk of 4 years, now the scenario have changed but still getting and internship despite the efforts of college is purely your piece of cake.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placement scenario is excellent, following is the list based on my memory of the companies which visited our campus: List of companies: TCS, Tech-mahindra, Snap-deal, New-Gen, fiserv, Dell International Services, Cummins, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Nexus, mind-tree, IBM and many more. Packages: Snapdeal and some of the Gurgaon based startups: 6 lacs TCS, Tech-mahindra and all others: 3.2 - 3.5 lacs Newgen: 4 lacs So the average package is 3.5 lacs No of students placed: TCS: 80 Tech-mahindra: 90 Dell: 36 Snap-deal and startups: 10 Apart from these companies there were numerous other companies which covered the total strength of students.

College Events

4

There are various technical and cultural events which are the glare for the students. Some of them are as follows Epoque: This is annual cultural event. This is a 3 day long fest in which there are various inter department competitions like dancing, singing, painting, skits etc. On the final day the best among all these get a chance to perform on the big stage during celebrity night. The big singers of Bollywood of the likes Neha kakkar, Benny Dayal, K K have been the center of attraction. Sports fest: This is another college event in which all the inter branch tournaments take place. These days it has been extended as a cluster of various colleges. So it has grown to inter-college level. Technical fest: These are organised every year with different names eg; innotech-14, endeavor-16 etc. At inter-college level. The college management puts a serious effort for all these events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

At my time it was the lowest among all the other competitive colleges. One can opt out form the hostel if they feel it costly and stay outside near college, there are some good hostels.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are tuition fee waiver schemes for the students who are the rank openers of the corresponding stream. There is a monetary award of 6000 INR for the student who tops in his/her stream. And the students scoring above 70% are also given monetary awards which varies according to their percentage. For students who belong to economically weaker section have "Social welfare Scholarship" which waives of the tuition. To avail this scholarship the students need to apply each year.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life is awesome as there are no restrictions for most of the things. There is no dress code. Lecture hours are pretty normal. For, senior years we have classes only till lunch so that students can focus on their self studies and other interests. There separate study rooms for the students to go and study. Apart from studies, there is a multipurpose complex which has a nice gymnasium. Also, it has rooms for the practice sessions of cultural fests they are accessible throughout the year. The college have a clinic as well and tie up with Columbia Asia hospital for any kind of emergency. There is a separate cricket and football ground. Also, there are lawn tennis, badminton and basketball courts. The overall crowd is fantastic. Gender ratio is less for some of the branches if taken individually but when overall strength is considered its most nearly 60-40 (male:female). The environment is very open and encourages everyone to do their best in whatever field either in academics or in field of students own hobbies.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are on campus and off campus hostels for the students.I have been in both of them.Off-campus hostels are for first year students. They are outside the campus to keep them ragging free. Most of the rooms are two sharing. the one in which i stayed was named "Atithi" and was at a distance of 5-6 kms from college campus and other hostel for first year students was near about 12 kms. This is why the bus service is compulsory for first year students. On-campus hostels are for rest of the years i.e; second year onward students can stay in the campus. Although the campus is spread in only 18 acres but everything is well placed. In these hostels there are single, two sharing and three sharing rooms and for girls hostels there are even four sharing rooms. Food and mess: Food is quiet average, but can be managed. Mess menus are decided by the students itself and management tries to comply to that to the most extent. Mess is operated four times a day, for breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. Outside PG's: There are quiet cheap and good PG's available nearby whose annual charge comes nearly 40-50k which is 10-20k less than on campus hostels. So, that is a good option for the students to stay outside. The food in these places is more or less same as mess food.

Alumni/Alumna

During my college years I have got all the required support form the seniors. they were very helpful. As far as ragging is concerned KIET has a peaceful environment and most of the encounters are introductory.Every year KIET has an Alumni meet event where alumni's of different batches come. Recently KIET has started a alumni outreach for Bengaluru also as many of the students get a placed inn the companies in Bengaluru. So due to this quality KIET is able to call some of the companies based on their Alumnus.

Exam Structure

Exams structure is quiet regressive but not at all hectic. I had 3 internal exams in which we have best of two for the final marks. In these 3 one is pre-university exam test which covered whole curriculum same as university papers. As the college is not autonomous we had internal and external exams. So for having a good academic performance we need to perform outstanding in internal exams also. Which most of KIET students do very easily as we had a support of good faculty. Labs were very interesting and as you advance in your years of study in college their importance is vital. So, we had labs for 50% of the course time which somewhere helped me to practically understand the material.

Admission

After the results of UP-SEE were announced, i got a counselling date. The counselling is conducted by the state government and you have to keep on checking the UP-SEE website for all the important information regarding the counselling. I got an specific date and center where i need to go for my admission counselling. We were allotted computer systems to access the counselling portals and fill our college choices. Here one needs be very cautious. i advise you to do brain storming about college choices based on previous years opening and closing ranks for the branch you are targeting and also make a concise list of you choices. After, I was done with my task of filling college choices, i was asked to wait for counselling results, which were announces after 4-5 hours. And, i got to know that i was admitted for KIET. Sometimes, counselling for these colleges are done on AIEE ranks also and one can get all the information from state government website and admission brochure.

Faculty

4

KIET is known for its faculty and teachers community. The selection process is very rigorous. the minimum qualification for a assistant professor is MTech and NET. I have had a great experience in studying form them. Most of the teachers have strong grip over their subject and they are also the ones who will encourage us to work with them on their research papers. The College management also organizes various seminars for the skill improvement of the faculty, which in turn is always visible in their teaching style. For instance, i got an opportunity to study the core subjects like compiler, networking, algorithms form the faculty who had an industry experience also.

Placement Experience:

Placements are both on and off-campus based. Placements are usually common for both IT and Non-IT students, Technical or Non-Technical. Students become eligible, in their final years to pursue internships or acquire placements. Usually students from Computer Science and Engineering avail more placement opportunities. The Medical Department have more options of Employability. Companies like HCL, Byju's, Extramarks, IBM and other local companies like Stambh Power Systems, Pieinfocomm and others have arrived. But the placement ratio needs to be increased. Off-Campus Placements are more successful. Highest Package can be 8lpa CTC to average package be 2.5lpa CTC, with profiles of assistance and associates. Atleast 30% students get placed on average. My plans are based on Learning in different ways.
