Remarks

This is a very good college with very supportive teachers, helpful students union. Regular classes are held without any miss. I would definately recommend this college to other students.

Entrance Preview

I opted this college for the subject combination of B.Sc hons morning department. The subject combination of zoo hons plus botany general and anthropology general is my favourite and it is not commonly found in nearby colleges.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curricullum is diverse which includes three streams science , commerce and arts. There is honours course and general course. A student can take two subjects from general course with one honours subject or three general subjects. For example zoology honours students can take two subjects in general among botany, anthropology and chemistry.

Internships Opportunities

This college does not yet provides the scope for internship. This is an undergraduate college under the university of calcutta. A vast number of undergraduade and information technology subjects are taught here. Post graduate classes are not held in this college.

Placement Experience

0.5

This college does not at present provide and opportunites at jobs or placements. The colleges under calcutta university providing bachelor of science , arts and commerce rarely provide placements from the college campus. But with the addition of the information technology department, placements may be started in near future in the college campus.

College Events

4.5

Regular events are celebrated in the college both by the individual departments and the students union. The events celebrated are independence day, republic day, saraswati puja, holi, chrismas, etc. The events are celebrated by the teachers, students, staff members alike and the atmosphere of the celebration is wonderful. This provides a much needed break and refreshment from the monotonous studies and also strenthens the bond between students and teachers.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is relatively much cheaper than the other colleges. The college is funded by the government of west bengal. The courses including laboratory use are slightly higher like geography and computer sciences. But the humanities subjects and commerce subjects are well within the reach of every one of any class of the society.

Fees and Financial Aid

All the loans and scholarships provided by the government of west bengal are available in the college. The eligible students can avail them by contacting the college office. Various travel concessions, tution fee concessions are also given to the poor and meritorious students.

Campus Life

4

The campus life in the college is wonderful. There is no discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion, politics , or economic standards. There is a sense of unity among the students of all subjects and years. A lot of extracurricular activities take place in the campus like story writing compitition, sports , cricket tournaments, indoor and outdoor games, quiz compititions, cultural programs and many more. Life outside the classroom is never dull.

Hostel Facilities

3

There is hostel facility in the college campus for only female students. Spacious and modern building is provided. The rooms are in dormitory system with 24 hrs water and backup generator facility. The campus is well connected by road and rail both. The canteen of the college has recently been modernized and serves a variety of food in optimal prices.

Alumni/Alumna

The senior students are very much helpful and polite to the junior or new students. In many occasion they team up to make presentations, projects and seminars. The senior students help the junior in studies and lab experiments.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is four fold. The regular class tests, the pre mid term exam, the mid term exam and the selection tests. The class tests are random and the other three tests are once a year. The lab facilities are good and one can use the lab according to their need. The lab tests in science subjects are moderately hectic involving long time working and observation in the lab.

Admission

The admission process is partly online and partly offline. The admission form can be generated online , duly filled along with the required documents photocopies and submitted. On pre informed date two merit lists are produced. First one is admitted as per serial no and second one is admitted as first come first serve basis.

Faculty

4

The faculty of the college is very good. Each department has a combination of experienced senior and very energetic new junior teachers. The method of teaching is complete and satisfying. The teachers are very dedicated and responsible to the students. The teachers are very much qualified and experienced to teach the students.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Reviewed on Dec 17, 2024(Enrolled 2020)

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.
