Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course structure is similar to that of AICTE. Class lectures are very helpful and we mainly focus on project and research oriented studies. 1.Academics : Let me present to you the course structure in brief. 1st year : You will have just one subject related to CS which will cover C language and C++ basic fundamentals. 2nd year: It covers Data Structures, Object Oriented Design, Computer Graphics and Formal Language & Automata theory. 3rd year: This year covers all the science behind computers subjects like Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, Microprocessors, Operating System, Compiler Design, Database Management System, Software Engineering, Design & Analysis of Algorithm. 4th year: By the end of the 3rd year you are expected to know the domain you want to move on in the future. There are specialisation courses like Data Mining, Neural Networks, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Image Processing, Machine Learning, Speech Processing, Wireless Networks, Cryptography, Cloud Computing.

Internships Opportunities

Sometimes T&P members find some internships for the students. Around 5+ people gets internship in CDAC Pune, as NITS has a super computing facility mentored by CDAC. If you want some good internship program except ISRO(Shillong), BSNL, CDOT, BARC, you need to apply on your own. No doubt T&P members will help you and give you details about various internship programs and push the organization(if it has a good relation with the institute) to take you as an intern.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, I haven't avail any such scholarship/loan facilities till now. But, there are some student who enjoy the benefits of scholarships inducted by the government. For example for people of North East there are scholarship, so are for Dalits and all. Based on the performances we are given scholarships in internships like SN Bose Scholarship and IAS scholarships.

Campus Life

4.5

Every student would have a different take on this because life’s definitely not similar for everyone inside a college campus. And yeah, the question is a branch specific one as the branch you belong to decides your fate of attending classes. If you are fortunate enough to belong to the cool branches then you are sure to turn into a night’s owl otherwise gear up for the busy week of 5-6 hours of classes per day. Well, let me start with the beautiful campus which would instantly make you fall in love with it. The tea garden outside the campus would make you up for a morning walk at least once in your college life. You would never be able to decide you favourite spot inside the campus as each site has its own beauty. The weather of Silchar with its frequent rain magnifies the beauty of the campus. You would find yourself attaching some memories to every spot in the campus.

Admission

Admission is done through all India general counseling conducted by jossa. Notification was released in the month of July. After the counseling we went to the college and took admission. College administration is very helpful and admission procedure is smooth enough.

Faculty

Just like any other colleges NIT silchar has also got some good and some bad teachers. The important question is that how good or bad they are. The good ones or bad ones will help you anyway they can,if you wanna learn. The only difference is that you won't get the motivation you need if your relation is not good with any of the teacher. I have seen teachers taking initiative for student’s work, I have also seen teachers taking all the work students did. The important thing is that you get to learn. Yes it is not fair for the students if instead of giving them real work or project teachers make them optimise their own work. Yes it is not fair for students if their teacher takes all the credit for the work they did. But at least first they teach you how to finish that work. So moral of the story is that if you wanna learn then be little smart and you can get all the help from the bad ones too.And Good ones, well they will motivate you, help you without any second thoughts.

See I had the passion for civil since my 10th std. I am really happy about my course . Because there are many job opportunities in govt sector in Assam. I like the teachers of my dept but some are not that friendly . Maybe it depends upon their mood sometimes I don't know really . The civil course is practical it's enjoyable. I would have liked it more if it would had more placement opportunities on campus . Otherwise it's fine

Its a good college. I feel lucky to read on this college. They faculty, the facilities is nice. The environment of the college is very good for education. The management cell of the college is also do grat jobs. But the main problem I have found is placement. According to the other colleges the placement of this college is not so good. If the college can give more placement then it will become a great college. Overall its a great college full of knowledge.
