Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

I have always loved computer which led me to choose btech in computer science which specialization in artificial intelligence and data science. Yes , the college offers specialized courses also in CSE like machine learning and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and blockchain etc The subjects taught here are always refreshed and new age technology is taught which prepares us for the real world. Frequent examination are taken to test the knowledge of the students and even assignment are given which carries 5 marks in your overall total of each subject. The teaching techniques are decent but for some subjects it can be made more engaging by focusing more on the application part of it .

Internships Opportunities

3

You are provided with excellent internship opportunity in the college. The college has a great placement cell and also a startup cell as well . In duration of your course you need to complete two mini projects and one major project and the project guidance provided the institute is commendable. All the students works on new age things and are trained for the real world problems

Placement Experience

2.5

After the completion of the 6th semester you become eligible for the campus placement. The college has a campus placement training cell which specially trains you for the interviews and placement exams. Companies like Amazon, dell technologies, Microsoft,Wipro , shell etc have isted our campus and have been common recruiters. The highest packege last year was of 54 lakhs per annum by Google and average package was 6 lakhs per annum. About 54% students got placed. I plan on doing a master's degree from an international University as our college trains for the same also

Fees and Financial Aid

At the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), the fee structure varies by course and category (e.g., Management, General, SC/ST). The total course fee of four year BTech course is approximately INR16.2 lakhs which breakdowns to 4,05,000 per year The fee breakdown is as follows: Tution fee- INR 3.2 lakhs( it covers everything such as laboratory fee, examination fee etc) Caution deposit - INR 5000 (one time, refundable) Hostel fee - varies as per the room selected ( INR 47000 - double sharing room and INR 67000- single sharing room) Mess fee - INR 86000 per year SC/ST and Other Categories: Students from SC/ST categories get a 20% concession. Students gets financial aid and scholarships as per merit . Based on two categories - boards , jee percentile . I received a scholarship of 40% on my tution fee as per my jee percentile . Student get a scholarship of 40% ,35% 30%, 25% and 20 % as per the criteria of merit decided by the institute. Being a sikkimese also gives a concession

Campus Life

3

My overall experience with SMIT is amazing where I have not only started to build my overall personality bot also discovered my hidden talents. We have a lot of clubs covering different genres and any student who is interested to learn is always welcome We have main two festival one is the Kalraav which is the biggest festival of Sikkim and it happens during the month of February and March. Second we have Tech Adrishta which is the technical fest and happes during the month of August or September. We also have excellent sports facilities and students are always encouraged for the sports events

Hostel Facilities

2.5

I love in a double sharing room and the hostel facility is quite affordable and decent In a room , you are given two bed, two cupboards , two study table , a wash basin Area and a personal bathroom The mess facilities are also decent and the food is fine as compared to other colleges mess . Boys and girls mess are different. If you rented a pg outside you won't face any problem as the location is safe and nice even for the girls

Admission

The other colleges that I applied for were SRM , VIT , MANIPAL JAIPUR. Though I got selected in all of them still I chose smit over all of them because of the Location and Environment: SMIT is located in Sikkim. What SMIT had going for it was a very peaceful environment amidst nature. I had always been more comfortable in a campus that was serene as compared to VIT or SRM, which were located in busy urban cities. Affordability: The overall fee structure at SMIT was highly affordable when compared with others .This was a primary decision-making point as the overall cost of living and studying there was much more feasible. Repute for Engineering: SMIT has some excellent reputations for Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering, which aligned with my career goals. Smaller Campus Size: I like the small campus for a closer relationship between students and faculty, unlike a huge student body like VIT's, which might detest the delivery of focused personalized attention.

Faculty

2.5

At SMIT, the faculty-to-student ratio is considered adequate for maintaining small classroom sizes, which helps provide individual attention to students. Many students mention that the faculties are approachable, especially during office hours or for project guidance. The mechanical engineering department and CSE department are most praised department for there excellent knowledge and effective teaching techniques But on the other side, many students also feel bored and felt lack of knowledge in the faculty members specially physics and mathematics department. You have to give 5 exams per subject per semester which includes 2 quizzes of 10 marks each and 2 sessionals 50 marks each and one end term paper of 100 marks. The level of paper varies subject to subject but it is on an average moderate level and if any student focus on the class will be able to score an 80 percent easily.

I do not have much idea about this field. If I'm not wrong internships begin from 2nd to 3rd year itself, and placements from 4th year. The avergae package here is around 6 LPA, and the highest package offered is 56 LPA. That'll be all from side.

After 5th semester, the college has on-campus internship options and after during 7th semester, you will be eligible to sit for campus placements. Many companies come for campus placement including IBM, NVIDIA, Deloitte, etc. PLacements for CSE, ECE, and EEE are very good. In 2023 highest placement was from EEE of 44 lakhs from NVIDIA. In Mechanical most of the students get PPO. For Civil, very least options are available. Usually, 80% of students get placed every year.
