Entrance Preview
I gave IIT JEE 2009 and got AIR 6357 . I was selected for centralized IIT counseling where I was awarder B.Tech in mineral engineering in ISM Dhanbad.There was no interview process and the admission was done in a day after the country selling results.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is basically about mineral processing techniques and engineering involved in those processes. It is under by fuel and mineral engineering department having good lab and research facility.
Internships Opportunities
I got selected for RINL Vizag for internship, It was a non stipened internship. Tata steel too came for internships and they eventually offered ppo to some of the selected ones.
Placement Experience
The placements used to be top notch 2-3 years back. But with I crease of seats and slowdown in the mining sector, the job opportunities were not as good as before. Many reputed companies like KPMG,TATA steel, PWC, Tata consultant engineers, Tega industries, Aditya birla recruited through this branch. Maximum pay was 10 lakhs per annum, average around 4.5 lakhs PA.
College Events
The campus life is just awesome, many festivals are organized through out the year where one gets to showcase his/her skills. The main cultural fest is SRIJAN and its the largest fest in eastern India after KSHITIZ of IIT KGP. Pratibimb,Parakram,concetto are some of the other tech and sports fests.
Fees and Financial Aid
Of course,SBI has a dedicated branch for ISM students and they offer loan to all students who qualify. There are a lot of merit as well as reservation based scholarships one could avail before as well as during the course.
Campus Life
Being an engineering college you can expect scarcity of girls.The gender ratio is no more than 10:1 fmin favor of males.But that being said,you would be amazed by the kind of stuff guys do here.Almost every festival and fest is followed by a DJ night and a all student party in the evening.Various workshops like art of living etc are also organized occasionally.You can find students from almost every state here and as such you can expect religious and ethnic tolerance here.Politics is a burning topic here.Every year elections are held for the apex student body here.
Hostel Facilities
There are 6 hostels for males and 2 for females. All the hostels are good but I love Diamond hostel becoz of the heritage it has.The rooms are spacious and you need to share the room with one person. The hostel fees are includes in your semester registrat
Alumni/Alumna
The Alumni of the college are spread in every sphere of the world.They helps the college a lot in need. Senior junior interactionhas suffered in past 2 years since rragging has been strictly prohibited,but still you can find some very helpful seniors if you are open to them.
Faculty
The faculties were very qualified in the past ,but since last 2 years some good professors have left creating a void.
