DAAD WISE Scholarship Program helps Indian students who wish to do a 2-3 month research internship at a public-funded German institute of higher education, in the field of Science and Engineering.
For candidates to be eligible for the DAAD WISE Scholarship Program, they required to associated with one of the 80 participating Indian higher education institutions including Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Technology - Roorkee, BITS Pilani - Hyderabad, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research - Kolkata, and Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi.
Further, the list of selected and participating institutions are not only limited to but influenced by NAAC accreditation, MHRD evaluation, AICTE approval, the Institute of National Importance status and the availability of 4-year bachelor’s and 5-year master’s degree programs.

The DAAD Scholarship application process occurs online through the DAAD Portal. The Access portal opens about 6 weeks before the application deadline. Applicants are required to send one copy of the application summary (PDF File) and a reference from an Indian Institution by Post to the DAAD office
NOTE: The first and the last name in the application form should be identical to the name in the applicant’s passport.
All the scholarship applications are evaluated by an independent and voluntary selection committee. Depending on the scholarship program and the applicant’s location, a personal introduction may be required. The selection decision is made either by the local selection committee or by another independent committee of academics in Germany. The key selection criteria include:
A candidate must not be the former recipient of a DAAD WISE Scholarship. Along with that, those who are applying for the scholarship should be either in their 5th/6th academic semester of an 8-semester bachelor’s program or in their 5th/6th/7th/8th academic semester of a five-year dual or integrated UG-PG degree program. Additionally, students must be enrolled in a program that can be classified under the fields of mathematics, engineering, and natural sciences.
The DAAD WISE Scholarship is for students who have an excellent academic record and skills to pursue higher studies in Germany but do not have the required finances to support their education. This is a government-funded scholarship program. The quality of education and student-friendly policies provided by the German government makes the country an attractive option for pursuing higher studies in comparison to other developed countries, such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.
Apart from DAAD WISE scholarships, other grant programs that are funded by DAAD and provided to Indian students include Helmut-Schmidt-Programme or Master’s Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG), IIT Master Sandwich Scholarships, Semester Scholarships for Students of Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), University Summer Courses, Study Scholarship for Foreign Graduates in the Field of Performing Arts, PhD Scholarships (Research Grants - Doctoral Programs in Germany) and study visits for groups of foreign students to Germany.
