The Association of South-East Asian Nations offers a scholarship for undergraduate students studying at Macquarie University in Australia. The scholarship is given to students who hold citizenship in any country other than Australia or New Zealand. Students must have transferred from the following universities:

  • HELP University in Malaysia,
  • Bangkok University in Thailand, and
  • Ho Chi Minh City University, Vietnam to be eligible for the scholarship.

Applications are invited through the university’s application portal every year. Shortlisted students are awarded a sum of 10,385 USD to be used towards tuition and other fees. Students must maintain a high GPA in order to keep receiving the scholarship amount, as per the scholarship guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria

The ASEAN Partner Scholarship is offered to students who are enrolled in undergraduate programs at Macquarie University. The selected students need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must have citizenship of any country other than Australia or New Zealand
  • They must have transferred from the following universities: HELP University, Malaysia, Bangkok University, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City University, Vietnam.
  • Must meet the academic and English proficiency requirements of the university.
  • Must hold an offer letter before the application deadline.
  • Must have achieved a minimum GPA of 5.0 on a scale of 7.0
  • Must have applied for a program that is at least longer than one session.
  • Must have commenced studies in the session and year stated in the offer letter.
  • The commencement of studies must not be postponed.
  • Must have applied for a program and must be enrolled in a full-time course.
  • Must have remained enrolled in the program to maintain the scholarship.

Note: If the student withdraws from the program before it is completed, the student might have to repay the scholarship amount awarded previously during the study period.

Any student is not eligible for the scholarship in case of the following situations:

  • If the student is a resident or holds permanent residency in Australia or New Zealand.
  • The student is enrolled in a Study Abroad or in an Exchange program incoming to Macquarie University.
  • If the student has applied to or has enrolled in Macquarie University International College.

Application Process

The application to avail the ASEAN Partner Scholarship are submitted online using the university’s application portal. The portal opens once the scholarship application dates are announced every year. The application process is as follows:

  • Log in to the university's application portal
  • ?fill out an application form

Once the student receives a student ID number from Macquarie University, a scholarship application must be submitted on the website of the university.


Selection Process

All student applications that are submitted to the university are evaluated on an individual basis. Students are required to submit the following documents.

  • Academic track record, transcripts, and arks or GPA
  • Resume if any
  • Work experience, if any
  • Recommendations from an academic professor or prior employers

The above-stated points are only the minimum selection points. More emphasis is given to the student’s profile.


Grant Details

The ASEAN Partner Scholarship is a scholarship awarded to student citizens of any country except Australia and New Zealand. The scholarship is awarded to students who have been given an offer letter to study at Macquarie University in Australia. The awarding organization is the Association of South-East Asian Nations or ASEAN in short.

The scholarship awards an amount of 10,335 USD to the selected students. The awarded amount is to be used for tuition and fees. Students must continue to be enrolled in their program and not withdraw before completion of the program. Doing so would involve them having to repay the scholarship amount awarded to them prior.
