What to Carry to the Exam Room
For all exams:
- A regular watch (not a smartwatch).
- Photo ID: government-issued or school-issued, if you are not testing at your own school.
- Pencils or pens (type depends on your exam).
- Up to 2 approved calculators for exams that allow them.
- A ruler or straightedge, only for AP Physics exams.
Pencil and Pen Rules by Exam Type:
- Fully digital exams: Bring pencils or pens for scratch paper notes
- Hybrid digital exams: Bring 2 sharpened No. 2 pencils + 2 pens (black or dark blue ink) for the free-response booklet
- French, German, Italian, Spanish, Music Theory: Bring 2 No. 2 pencils for the MCQ sheet + 2 pens for the free-response sections
For Digital Exams (Fully Digital + Hybrid)
- Fully charged device with Bluebook installed + charging cable.
- External keyboard: Required if using a tablet for a fully digital exam.

What You Must NOT Bring
Electronic devices are strictly banned, except for the device used for the exam. This includes:

- Cameras or recording devices,
- Separate timers of any kind, and
- Laptops or tablets (unless used for the exam itself).
Other banned items:

If you are found with any banned item, even during a break, you may be dismissed, your device confiscated, and your score cancelled.
Break Rules
There is a 10-minute break between Section 1 and Section 2 of most exams. During this break and any other unscheduled breaks:
- You cannot use your phone or any electronic device
- You cannot consult notes, books, teachers, or other students
- You cannot leave the building at any time during the exam
- You can step out of the exam room (with proctor permission) to get water or a snack
After the exam, you must not share or discuss any exam content with classmates or teachers.
Consequences of Breaking the Rules
College Board takes exam security seriously:
- Score cancellation, even if the violation was not intentional.
- Ban from future College Board exams, including the SAT, if cheating is proven.
