The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) opened MCAT 2027 registration on October 20, 21, and 22, 2026. The three-day window pulls in Indian pre-med applicants chasing US and Canadian MD seats for the 2028 intake. AAMC staggered openings by region to ease load on the registration portal, per its official tips page. Testing runs January through September 2027, replacing the 2026 cycle that closed last month.

  • Indian applicants have no test center at home and must book seats at AAMC international hubs in Singapore, Thailand, or Malaysia, where slots fill within hours of the window opening.
  • The total MCAT registration fee for Indian candidates is USD 490 (INR 47,241), comprising a base fee of USD 360 (INR 34,708) and an international fee of USD 130 (INR 12,533).
  • AAMC flagged that Fee Assistance Program approval cuts the base fee to USD 145 but takes five business days, so late applicants have already missed that lane.

Opening day sits inside the full application cycle for the 2028 US MD intake, where primary applications through AMCAS begin in May 2027. Students who skip this window are unlikely to score well before the June 2027 cut-off most schools use for competitive consideration.

What AAMC Confirmed on MCAT 2027 Opening Day

AAMC confirmed three regional openings on October 20, 21 and 22, 2026, each at 12 p.m. ET (9:30 p.m. IST). The staggered design is a direct response to 2026 crashes when every region hit the portal at once. Candidates in Asia-Pacific, including Indian applicants testing in Singapore or Thailand, were slotted into the October 21 opening.

The full 2027 testing calendar runs January through September. AAMC did not raise its headline fee from the 2026 cycle, holding the base at USD 360 (INR 34,708) per the MCAT exam fee structure. The international surcharge of USD 130 (INR 12,533) still applies to all centers outside the United States and Canada.

What it means for Indian Students: A flat fee means your 2027 budget stays close to 2026, but visa, flight, and hotel to the test city push the real cost well above USD 490. Factor in another ₹35,000 to ₹60,000 per attempt for the trip, and that is before retake costs.

MCAT 2027 Fee Breakdown for Indian Candidates

The headline number hides the layered cost structure Indian students face. The international surcharge, late-registration fees, and rescheduling penalties stack fast if plans change.

Fee component (USD) Amount INR at ₹88/USD
Base registration (Gold Zone) USD 360 ₹34,474
International fee USD 130 ₹12,449
Total payable from India USD 490 ₹46,923
Fee Assistance Program (base, if approved) USD 145 ₹12,760

Why Indian Applicants Have No Test Center at Home

AAMC has not operated an MCAT center on Indian soil, a gap that remained unaddressed in the 2027 announcement. Indian candidates book seats at the nearest Pearson VUE-linked AAMC center, almost always in Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, or Doha, per the MCAT test centers list.

City Country Round-trip ex-Delhi (approx)
Bangkok Thailand ₹22,000 to ₹35,000
Singapore Singapore ₹30,000 to ₹55,000
Kuala Lumpur Malaysia ₹25,000 to ₹45,000
Doha Qatar ₹28,000 to ₹50,000

Thailand and Malaysia remain the two most-used centers because of e-visa access and higher slot availability for January through April dates.

Important Distinction: The MCAT is not NEET and does not qualify you for MBBS in India. A good MCAT score only matters if you commit to a US or Canadian MD track where the degree is awarded after an undergraduate degree, not after Class 12.

How Do Indian Students Register on Opening Day?

AAMC gates the registration portal behind an existing account, so last-minute sign-ups usually fail. The organisation lists five readiness steps on its official page for the 2027 cycle.

  1. Create or log into your AAMC account before 12 p.m. ET on your assigned regional day.
  2. Keep an MCAT-accepted government ID ready, usually your passport for Indian applicants testing abroad.
  3. Shortlist two or three alternate test dates and cities before the queue opens.
  4. Have an international credit card ready for the USD 490 charge, since UPI and most Indian debit cards are rejected.
  5. Save the AAMC helpline +1 202-828-0600 (9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET weekdays) for failed-payment or lockout issues.

AAMC also warned candidates that approval for the MCAT 2026 Fee Assistance Program takes five business days, so Indian students who want the reduced fee for later 2027 attempts should apply by early November 2026 to be safe.

Opening-Day Checklist for Indian Candidates

  1. Open the MCAT Registration System at least 30 minutes before 9:30 p.m. IST on October 21 or 22.
  2. Lock in your preferred Southeast Asia city first; shift to a backup city if slots vanish within the first hour.
  3. Pay the USD 490 in one go to avoid a cart timeout mid-queue.
  4. Save the confirmation PDF and set reminders for the void deadline, usually seven days before test day.
  5. Begin your Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand visa paperwork within 72 hours of booking the slot.

Indian applicants who miss this week’s window can still register later in 2027, but the January to March test dates in nearby cities tend to disappear within the first opening day. Pushing your test to July or August 2027 shortens the gap before AMCAS primaries open in May 2027 and leaves little room for a retake.

Keep an Eye On: The final regional opening at 12 p.m. ET on October 22, 2026 (9:30 p.m. IST). AAMC will also publish the complete 2027 testing calendar within the next few days, which is when scheduling deadlines for January and February 2027 test slots become firm.
