Popular PG Programmes at Stockholm University 2027
Total figures multiply the per-year tuition across four semesters. Humanities, social sciences and law programmes sit at the SEK 90,000 per year band, while sciences and select business or communication programmes sit at SEK 135,000 to SEK 140,000.

Popular UG Programmes at Stockholm University 2027
English-taught bachelor’s options are limited; most undergraduate teaching is in Swedish. The main English-medium bachelor track is the joint programme with Uppsala University in international business and politics.
| Programme | Total Fee (SEK) | Total Fee (INR lakh) | Entry Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bachelor in International Business and Politics | 270,000 | 27.27 lakh | Class 12 with 65% to 75% (recommended), English 6 level |
Insider note: Indian applicants concentrate on the science and quantitative masters (Computer and Systems Sciences, Molecular Life Sciences, Banking and Finance) because these programmes recognise Indian STEM bachelor’s degrees directly and align with the 12-month post-study residence permit.

Stockholm University Admission 2027
Stockholm University runs two intakes each year, and non-EU applicants must apply in the first admissions round to secure a residence permit in time for the semester start. All applications go through universityadmissions.se, not the university portal.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn 2027 application opens | Expected mid-October 2026 (based on Autumn 2026 cycle) | Portal opens on universityadmissions.se; account setup takes 2 to 3 days |
| Autumn 2027 first-round deadline (international) | Expected 15 January 2027 (based on prior cycle) | Hard deadline for non-EU applicants requiring a residence permit |
| Supporting documents deadline | Expected 1 February 2027 | Upload transcripts, degree, English test and passport copy |
| Notification of selection | Expected 26 March 2027 (master’s) | Fee invoice issued with the offer |
| Autumn 2027 semester start | Expected late August 2027 | Migrationsverket permit processing typically takes 8 to 12 weeks |
[Source: Stockholm University Important Dates]
Planning note: Indian applicants should file the residence permit application on the day the fee invoice is settled, because a 12-week Migrationsverket processing window plus biometrics at the Swedish embassy in Delhi can push the visa dangerously close to the late-August start.

Stockholm University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Sweden treats the three-year Indian bachelor’s degree as equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen for most master’s programmes, provided the university is UGC-recognised. English proficiency is the second gate all Indian applicants clear.
PG Requirements
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree of at least 180 ECTS with a minimum aggregate of 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); many masters require a specific subject major
- English (English 6 level): IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 5.5; TOEFL iBT 4.5 on the 1-6 scale (no section below 4) or 90 on the 0-120 legacy scale (with 20 in the written section); PTE Academic 62 with writing 61
- Application dossier: Certified transcripts, degree certificate, English translations, CV, statement of purpose and one to two academic references uploaded to universityadmissions.se
- Programme extras: Some quantitative masters (economics, banking and finance) recommend a GRE score; verify at the official entry requirements page
UG Requirements
- Academic: Class 12 with 65% to 75% aggregate (recommended) from CBSE, ISC or a state board meeting the Swedish upper-secondary baseline
- English: English 6 level demonstrated by the test scores above, or by Class 12 English marks if the medium of instruction was English
Key insight: Sweden does not require WES or a paid credential evaluation; universityadmissions.se runs its own document check, which saves Indian applicants the WES fee but adds a 3 to 4 week internal verification lead time before results.
Stockholm University Acceptance Rate 2027
Stockholm University does not publish an overall institutional acceptance rate. Based on third-party analyses of application volume against the annual English-taught master’s intake, the acceptance rate sits at 20% to 30% (estimated). Reliability is moderate because Sweden allows applicants to select up to four programmes on a single application, which inflates raw application counts.
The competitive programmes are Computer and Systems Sciences, Banking and Finance and Economics; humanities and social sciences masters admit a wider share of qualified applicants. Selection is merit-based on the bachelor’s degree grade, subject fit and, for a few masters, the statement of purpose.
Reality check: An Indian applicant with a first-class bachelor’s (60% plus) in a matching subject, IELTS 6.5 and a clear statement of purpose has a realistic chance at most Stockholm University masters outside the very selective business and CS tracks.

Stockholm University Fees and Cost of Living for Indian Students 2027
Total annual cost for an Indian student at Stockholm University sits between SEK 218,000 and SEK 320,000 (INR 22.02 to 32.32 lakh), combining faculty-set tuition and the Migrationsverket living-cost floor.
Stockholm University Tuition Fees for Indian Students 2027
Tuition is fixed by the teaching faculty and stays constant across a student’s programme. Only non-EU, non-EEA and non-Swiss citizens pay tuition; the SEK 900 (INR 9,090) application fee is separate and non-refundable.
| Programme Band | Annual Fee (SEK) | Annual Fee (INR lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| PG Humanities, Social Sciences, Law | 90,000 | 9.09 lakh |

Monthly Cost of Living in Stockholm for Indian Students
Migrationsverket sets a mandatory minimum of SEK 11,214 (INR 1.13 lakh) per month that Indian applicants must show in a bank statement for the residence permit; realistic Stockholm costs sit slightly above this floor.
| Category | Monthly (SEK) | Monthly (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation (student housing, single studio) | 5,250 to 8,500 (estimated) | 0.53 to 0.86 lakh |
| Food and groceries | 2,500 to 3,500 (estimated) | 0.25 to 0.35 lakh |
| Transport (SL student pass) | 640 (estimated) | 0.06 lakh |
| Books and supplies | 500 (estimated) | 0.05 lakh |
| Personal and miscellaneous | 1,500 (estimated) | 0.15 lakh |
| Total monthly | 10,390 to 14,640 | 1.05 to 1.48 lakh |
| Total annual | 124,680 to 175,680 | 12.59 to 17.74 lakh |

Insider note: Stockholm rents outside the Frescati and Albano student housing pools can jump to SEK 9,000 to SEK 12,000 for a private single-room contract, so Indian students should apply to SSSB and Stockholms Studentbostäder queues within a week of accepting the offer.

Stockholm University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Stockholm University is set inside the Royal National City Park, with its main teaching sites spread across five interconnected campuses in northern Stockholm. The setting mixes woodland walking trails with modern research buildings.
- Main location: Frescati campus, 20 minutes from central Stockholm on the tunnelbana (subway) red line to Universitetet station
- Housing: Albano residential area on the Frescati doorstep offers international-student apartments at SEK 5,250 to SEK 8,500 per month; the university coordinates but does not guarantee placement
- Notable facilities: Frescati Library (the largest social sciences library in Sweden), the AlbaNova University Center for physics and astronomy jointly run with KTH, and the Studenthuset student union building
- Indian community: Small but active, plugged into the Stockholm University Student Union and city-wide Indian student networks; several country and interest societies host regular meetups
What Indian students say: The Frescati campus feels more like a park than a university, which is a strong plus in Swedish summer but tests motivation during the December-January darkness. Everyone speaks English on campus, but learning basic Swedish opens up part-time work and Swedish friend groups faster than expected.
Stockholm University Scholarships 2027
Two scholarships materially reduce the tuition bill for Indian master’s applicants at Stockholm University: one institutional and one Swedish government award. Neither offer targets bachelor’s applicants.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme | Institutional | Full tuition (SEK 90,000 to 140,000 per year, INR 9.09 to 14.14 lakh per year) | Non-EU or EEA master’s admit ranked in the first admissions round | Expected 15 January 2027 (with the application) |
| Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals | Government | Full tuition plus SEK 12,000 (INR 1.21 lakh) monthly stipend plus one-time travel grant | Indian nationals with a bachelor’s plus 3,000 hours of relevant work experience | Expected mid-February 2027 (based on prior cycle) |
[Source: Stockholm University scholarships page]
Planning note: The Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme funds a small share of admitted non-EU students each year, so Indian applicants should treat it as a bonus rather than a plan and budget the full SEK 180,000 to 280,000 tuition alongside the scholarship application.

Stockholm University Rankings 2027
Stockholm University sits comfortably inside the world’s top 200 across all four major global rankings, with its strongest showing on the research-heavy ARWU Shanghai list. The QS position slipped from #128 in 2025 to #147 in 2026 and now #167 in 2027.

Collegedunia Study Abroad also places Stockholm University at #72 in Social Studies, #80 in Arts and Humanities, and #97 in Law globally, matching its strongest QS subject bands.
Key insight: All four ranks keep Stockholm inside the QS and ARWU top-200 window that Indian education loan lenders (SBI, HDFC Credila, Avanse) use to approve unsecured loans up to INR 40 lakh, so the current QS #167 comfortably clears the underwriting cut.

Stockholm University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Stockholm University does not run a centralised placement cell in the Indian IIT sense; graduate outcomes flow through the Stockholm University Careers Service, faculty-level industry links and the Swedish 12-month post-study residence permit.
- Employment support: Central Careers Service runs CV clinics, LinkedIn workshops, employer fairs and one-to-one advising for enrolled students and up to 12 months after graduation
- Median starting salary (market benchmark): SEK 32,000 to SEK 40,000 per month gross for a Swedish master’s graduate in Stockholm across business and STEM fields (INR 3.23 to 4.04 lakh per month, market median)
- Recruiter sectors: Banking and fintech (Klarna, SEB, Handelsbanken sector), technology (Spotify, Ericsson sector), consulting (Accenture, PwC sector) and public research bodies; individual placement lists are not officially disclosed
- Post-study route: Non-EU graduates can apply for a 12-month residence extension to search for work or start a business, then convert to a work permit once employment starts at or above the SEK 34,200 monthly threshold
- Indian alumni: Stockholm University counts Indian graduates across Nordic tech, research and public policy roles; individual named claims are not published centrally
Insider note: Swedish employers weigh language and network as heavily as the degree, so Indian students who reach an SFI B2 level in Swedish during the two-year masters convert to full-time offers at a materially higher rate than English-only candidates.
Stockholm University vs Peer Universities
Peer set below covers the three other Swedish public research universities Indian applicants shortlist alongside Stockholm University, plus two cross-country comparators at a similar QS band. Fees quoted are for a two-year non-EU master’s in the humanities or social sciences band.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 | Avg 2-year PG Fee (SEK / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stockholm University | #167 | #105 of 824 | 180,000 to 280,000 / 18.18 to 28.28 lakh | Strongest social sciences, law and arts research in Sweden |
| Lund University | #75 | NA | 200,000 to 290,000 / 20.20 to 29.29 lakh | Sweden’s highest QS rank; broad programme portfolio |
| Uppsala University | #98 | NA | 200,000 to 290,000 / 20.20 to 29.29 lakh | Sweden’s oldest university; strong medicine and pharmacy |
| KTH Royal Institute of Technology | #89 | NA | 310,000 (Engineering flat) / 31.31 lakh | Sweden’s leading engineering and CS school |
| University of Copenhagen (Denmark) | #100 | NA | Around 200,000 DKK / 24.60 lakh | Nordic peer with an English-taught master’s portfolio |
| University of Helsinki (Finland) | #116 | NA | Around 24,000 EUR / 22.90 lakh | Comparable QS band; Finnish post-study residence route |
Stockholm University lands lower on QS than Lund or KTH but leads Sweden on research strength in law, humanities and social sciences (ARWU #103, top-100 in Sweden’s field mix). Its SEK 90,000 tuition band is the cheapest among the four Swedish peers for social sciences and law applicants.
Stockholm University suits Indian applicants who want a Nordic capital-city posting, a research-heavy social sciences or natural sciences master’s, and a realistic shot at the Swedish 12-month post-study residence permit against a total two-year investment of roughly INR 30 to 45 lakh including living costs; the Swedish market median starting salary of INR 3.23 to 4.04 lakh per month clears loan servicing on that outlay within 3 to 4 years of graduation. The applicant will also value the Migrationsverket Sweden residence permit pathway and the ability to switch to a work permit once employed.
Stockholm University is not the right fit for applicants set on a pure-engineering brand name or a fast MBA to Big-4 pipeline; KTH Stockholm serves the first case with a stronger CS and engineering QS position and industry linkages.
Stockholm University FAQs
Ques. What English-taught bachelor’s programmes does Stockholm University offer for Indian students?
Ans. Stockholm University teaches most bachelor’s degrees in Swedish, with the Bachelor in International Business and Politics as the primary English-medium option for Indian students. Non-English bachelor’s applicants can start with a one-year English-taught foundation year at other Swedish universities and transfer, or apply directly to Stockholm’s wider English-taught master’s catalogue after completing an Indian bachelor’s degree in a matching subject.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Stockholm University?
Ans. Yes; from June 2026 Sweden caps student part-time work at around 15 hours per week during teaching terms, with no cap during summer breaks. Indian residence-permit holders can take on hourly campus jobs, hospitality shifts or paid internships without a separate work permit, provided study progress meets the 22.5-credit-per-semester threshold that Migrationsverket checks at each annual renewal.
Ques. Does Stockholm University waive the GRE or GMAT for Indian applicants?
Ans. Stockholm University does not require GRE or GMAT for most master’s programmes. A GRE score can strengthen quantitative applications in economics or banking and finance, and some collaborative programmes with Stockholm School of Economics ask for a GMAT. Indian applicants should verify the specific requirement on the individual programme page before booking a test slot, since submitting an unnecessary score adds no admission weight.
Ques. What is the Stockholm University application fee and can Indian students get a waiver?
Ans. The Stockholm University application fee is SEK 900 (INR 9,090) per admission round, paid to universityadmissions.se and covering up to four programme choices on a single application. The fee is waived only for applicants already registered at a Swedish university, not for Indian first-time applicants. It is non-refundable regardless of the admission outcome, so applicants should file the fee only after confirming programme eligibility.
Ques. Which Indian education loan lenders finance a Stockholm University master’s?
Ans. Public sector lenders (SBI, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank) and NBFCs (HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, InCred) all fund Stockholm University master’s loans up to INR 40 lakh unsecured and higher amounts against collateral. Stockholm’s QS #167 rank and Sweden’s residence-permit clarity make loan approval predictable; Indian students should apply once the fee invoice is issued and before the residence-permit application is filed.
Ques. Can Indian students bring dependents on the Stockholm University residence permit?
Ans. Yes; spouses and children under 18 can apply as dependents on the student’s residence permit at Migrationsverket, and each dependent must show a monthly living budget in addition to the student’s SEK 11,214. Dependents receive work rights automatically during the study period. Indian applicants should file dependent applications alongside the primary student permit to keep processing timelines aligned before the semester starts.
Ques. How do Indian applicants get transcripts verified for Stockholm University?
Ans. Universityadmissions.se runs its own verification of Indian transcripts and does not require WES or a paid credential evaluator, which saves the WES fee. Indian applicants upload attested transcript scans, the degree certificate and English translations directly to the portal by the document deadline. The portal team completes internal verification in 3 to 4 weeks, which is why the application dossier must be complete well before the first-round deadline.
Ques. Is IELTS mandatory for Indian applicants to Stockholm University?
Ans. IELTS is not the only path; Stockholm University accepts TOEFL iBT (4.5 on the 1-6 scale or 90 legacy), PTE Academic (62 with writing 61), Cambridge C1 Advanced and equivalent tests. Indian applicants whose Class 12 or bachelor’s certificate explicitly states English as the medium of instruction can request an English 6 waiver, though most Indian applicants find booking an IELTS Academic slot the cleaner route to a confirmed offer.

- Curriculum for my course was extensive and managed well by our faculty.
- A lot of technical resources were provided for our use in projects as well as personal exploration.
- Extracurricular activities and life is also plentiful, internship experiences obtained thanks to the course also helped me greatly.
Campus Life
- There are two campuses; the main one holds classes for non-technical courses and is significantly bigger than our tech campus. Travel time between Metro (20-30 mins). Clubs exist for technical as well as social activities.
Fees
- The entire 4-semester tuition fee for our course was SEK 260,000 (~INR 25,73,000)
Likes
- I like the friendly approach of the faculty and the general environment of the university. The campus has both good facilities for research and extra curricular activities. The environment is open for students from all background and age to learn not only from their own degree, but also they are free to join courses that are not part of their degree's.
Campus Life
- There are multiple campuses that are all large in area with no sense of congestion. There are regular events happening for people interested in various social, culture or political interests. There are very good quality sports centers that provide equipment and courses for students to learn anything of their interests.
Fees
- I don't have a tuition fee; instead, I have a salary of 28000 SEK per month before taxes.
