University of Chester Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Chester’s Indian entry thresholds sit at the accessible end of the UK post-92 university band. The key hurdles are Class 12 percentage, bachelor’s percentage, and English proficiency.

Postgraduate taught applicants:

  • Academic: 3-year bachelor’s with 55% to 65% (verbatim from Chester India page)
  • English: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each sub-skill
  • Credentials: WES ECA or attested transcripts and degree certificate
  • Standout: Nursing, Education, and Social Work require IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each section

Undergraduate applicants:

  • Academic: Class 12 with 65% overall from CBSE, CISCE, or IGCSE; 70% for state boards including Punjab, Haryana, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand
  • Language: 75% in Class 12 English from CBSE or ICSE; otherwise IELTS Academic 6.0 with 5.5 sub-scores

Accepted English tests (from Chester official entry requirements page):

  • IELTS Academic: UG 6.0 (5.5 sub); PGT 6.5 (5.5 sub)
  • TOEFL iBT (post-21 January 2026 scale): UG 4 overall (4 per component); PGT 4.5 overall (4 per component)
  • TOEFL iBT (pre-21 January 2026 legacy 0-120): UG 79 (R18, L17, S20, W17); PGT 91 (R20, L19, S21, W20)
  • PTE Academic: UG 59 overall (59 sub); PGT 62 overall (59 sub)
  • Duolingo English Test: UG 105 (100 per band); PGT 120 (100 per band)
  • Pre-sessional English: Available for applicants scoring below the direct-entry threshold

Note: Chester does not accept Class 12 English from the National Institute of Open Schooling or Vocational Boards for the English waiver route. Students from restricted state boards must submit IELTS Academic instead.

University of Chester Acceptance Rate 2027

Chester does not officially publish its acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place selectivity between 25% and 40% (estimated), suggesting moderate competition for UG and taught PG routes.

Indian applicants meeting the published academic and English thresholds have a strong chance of a conditional offer. Chester’s Best for International Students 2025 status signals an actively welcoming stance toward Indian cohorts.

Reality check: The 25% to 40% band reflects third-party estimates; Chester itself does not disclose intake numbers versus offers. Indian applicants with a 60% bachelor’s and IELTS 6.5 typically clear the first sift for taught masters.

Chester stands out on the auto-applied International Scholarship Award, which no fellow Northwest post-92 peer replicates as an automatic consideration. Its 93% International Student Barometer 2025 score outperforms most similarly ranked UK peers.

Chester suits Indian applicants seeking a lower total investment than Russell Group entry (defined here as the 24-member research-intensive UK grouping). Total 2-year cost sits at around £ 43,552 (₹ 55.7 Lakh) covering PGT tuition plus 12 months of living costs. Post-degree, the study in UK Graduate Route offers 2 years to convert study into work, aligning cost against realistic UK graduate earnings.

Chester is not the right fit for applicants targeting big-city networks or top-100 QS employer brand pull. Indian students prioritising Manchester or London employer proximity should also weigh Manchester Metropolitan University.

University of Chester FAQs

Ques. Does University of Chester waive the IELTS requirement for English-medium Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes, Chester accepts 75% or above in Class 12 English from CBSE, ICSE, or IGCSE central boards in place of IELTS Academic. Chester’s Careers Service lists on-campus jobs and local part-time roles for international students.

Ques. Which Indian banks provide education loans recognised by University of Chester?

Ans. Chester holds Tier 4 sponsor status, and its CAS letters are accepted by major Indian public and private banks including SBI, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank. Non-collateral loans up to ₹ 40 Lakh and collateralised loans up to ₹ 1.5 Crore are typically available. NBFCs like Avanse and Auxilo also process Chester CAS.

UG applications routed via UCAS carry the UCAS fee of £ 28.50 for a single choice or £ 28.50 flat for multiple choices as of the 2026 cycle. Indian applicants pay the UCAS charge in GBP by card at submission.

Ques. Can dependents accompany Indian students to Chester on a Student visa?

Indian applicants should upload attested PDF copies at the application stage; original verification happens before CAS issue. Allow 4 to 6 weeks lead time.

Ques. Does Chester interview Indian applicants before making an offer?

Ans. Most Chester taught masters and undergraduate courses do not require an interview for Indian applicants. A small set of courses including MA Art Therapy, MA Social Work, and MBChB Medicine include interviews. Some MBA candidates may be invited to a short video call.

Ques. What is the refund policy at University of Chester if the visa is refused?

  • I haven't got the campus life I expected. I haven't had much time on campus to enjoy it completely.

Fees

  • It was 14,750 pounds, which is around 15 lakhs. But I got a scholarship, and my fees turned out to 12, 250 pounds. We would need an extra amount for travel, accommodation and other expenses.

  • I was also actively involved in the Indian Society on campus, which was a great way to stay connected with my cultural roots.
  • Being part of the Indian Society not only helped me feel at home but also allowed me to introduce my culture to others, creating a diverse and inclusive environment on campus.

Fees

  • After admission you have to pay deposit and after visa you have to pay the rest of the amount.
  • University accommodations are cheap but shared accommodations are cheaper. My tuition fees was £11,950 and accommodation for a year was about £9000. Apart from this there are other expenses.
  • For these students must find part time jobs otherwise it will be unmanageable. This might take a while but nothing to get frustrated over. Things do work out and the key is to keep looking.

7.2 /10

Overview

This was one of the two university in UK that delivered my desired course and the module in this university matched my interest. Also this university is located in a quite small town which was ideally my location of choice.

HW
8.3 /10

Overview

I liked the look of it and it is good for Psychology. It is one of the best in the country for this degree. It is also BPS accredited which was an important factor. I like Chester as a city because it is small but big enough.

Fees

The fees were quite easy to understand as it was explained previously in college. They get sent into our banks and taken out without us needing to do anything which is helpful as we have lots of things to think about. The rent is all of my loans so I don't get any money to live on if my parents didn't send me money.
