University of Sunderland Sunderland vs Peer Universities
The peer comparison below sets Sunderland against similar UK post-92 universities that attract Indian students on tuition and career grounds.
| University | QS World 2027 | Guardian UK 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of Sunderland | Not ranked | #27 | £17,500 (18.55 lakh) | Automatic £4,500 PG scholarship |
| Teesside University | #801-850 | #63 | £16,500 (17.49 lakh) | Digital media and animation strength |

| Coventry University | #571-580 | #54 | £20,050 (21.25 lakh) | London campus and higher intake volume |
| University of Bolton | Not ranked | #89 | £13,950 (14.79 lakh) | Lowest UK tuition among peers |
Sunderland’s Guardian ranking of #27 is the highest in this peer group, a meaningful signal on student experience and career outcomes. The £4,500 auto-scholarship for PG students effectively brings net tuition below Coventry and Northumbria.
Sunderland fits Indian students seeking an affordable UK degree with strong graduate outcomes, the Graduate Route visa, and access to north-east UK’s manufacturing and healthcare employers. Total investment of ₹29 to 33 lakh for a taught PG programme sits below London-based peers, while the median UK PG starting salary of £26,000 (₹27.6 lakh) offers a workable early post-study payoff for MBA in United Kingdom and taught masters candidates.
Sunderland is not ideal for applicants prioritising QS-ranked research prestige, London-centred networking, or pure academic research pathways. Students with those goals should evaluate the University of Leeds or Newcastle University, both of which sit in the QS Top 200 and offer stronger research-led PG cohorts.

Overview
My teacher at the college suggested this university for me. I knew that teachers were helpful, and because when I was young I had many difficulties succeeding with my studies, I thought that I should choose a university that was not too demanding and supportive. When I started at the University of Sunderland in London, I was impressed by the various activities the institution offered. Also, the university has many departments for students to help them with various enquiries and assistance. For example, one of them is the department of health and well-being. The university engages in many activities such as conferences, trips, and events. Many societies organised by students with the help of the university deliver many activities that provide a better social environment. In fact, the tourism and travel society organises trips for students across the UK and abroad. Also, sports societies are available at the university, such as a dance club, swimming, football, and more, for active students. So far, being a student at the University of Sunderland in London has been a unique experience! The institution collaborates with the University of Sunderland in Hong Kong. The university is definitely multicultural. I made many friends, starting from Indians and Asians to Europeans, Africans, and South Americans. There are many employment events where students can meet potential employers for opportunities such as internships and work experience with important companies.
Campus Life
The university has a well-furnished library with the availability of many types of computers. Also, there are many study areas with free sockets for charging laptops and telephones. On the upper floors, there are a lot of places for students to study, as well as places for groups to study. There are two rooms for private meetings. A large canteen provides fresh Indian food, fresh vegetables and fruits, with an allocated sitting area. At the far end of the sitting area, a pool table, ping-pong table game, and table football are provided by the university for the students' enjoyment. The university expanded due to the increasing number of students, acquiring another building next to the older university. The new establishment is furnished with a modern canteen and study areas as well. This is a common misunderstanding. The university offers extra short courses in which students can participate during their time at the university. For example, I applied for a marketing course for which the duration was about 5 months and I had to attend once a week. At the end of the course, I received a certificate of attendance for the completion of the course from the university. I also completed the project management course, and now I am studying Microsoft Word, for which I will have to sit for an exam at the end of the course to get the certificate. I didn't apply for the entrepreneurship course because I was not interested in it, but this course is also available to students. There is the availability of job volunteer opportunities for students with the Eco Festival, in which I participate as a film critic.
