  • University of Essex takes admission in Autumn, Spring, Winter and Summer Semester.
  • The application portal for UG and PG admissions vary. UG applicants must use the UCAS portal, whereas PG applicants must apply through the official website.
  • Deadline for courses starting from October 2020 and applicants who will need a Tier 4 visa to study is August 28, 2020.
  • For the 2020-21 session, tuition fees for domestic students will be the same as that of international students.

Admissions Deadline

To take admission in the Autumn semester of the undergraduate or graduate degree programs in University, students must submit their application before 28 August 2020. Any application received after the deadline will not be accepted by the Admission Office of the University. Regarding the other courses, there has been no mention of deadlines by the University.

International Students Admission

University of Essex gives admission to International students with strong academic background and those who have submitted all the required documents prior to the deadline. The university has students from 140 countries enrolled into its various programs.

Admission requirements: International Applicants have to submit the following documents in order to enrol in undergraduate courses of the University

For Indian applicants, 

  • Most Bachelor degree courses consider 55% from Kolkata (West Bengal Board), 60% from Karnataka (Bangalore, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh boards, and 70% from CBSE and other regional and national boards for Indian high school qualifications. 
  • For Master degree courses, applicants must have scored 50% in Band 1 or Band 2 institution or 55% in all other institutions from Bachelor degree. 

English Proficiency for International Students

English Proficiency test score is compulsory for those students in whose native country English is not their first language. International students must demonstrate English Proficiency by submitting the test score of any of the following mentioned exams:

Tier 4 International Student Visa Requirements

Those students who are non-residents of the UK must apply for the tier 4 Student Visa to get admission in University of Essex. If the course lasts for more than 6 months, students are allowed to reach one month prior to the start of course with the help of this visa as well as find employment opportunities on-campus as well as off-campus. 

This visa allows them to get employment on campus as well as off campus. Application fee of Tier 4 Visa is 348 EUR. Applicants need a blank page in their passport for a visa. Applicants have to submit following documents at the Embassy:

  • Current passport or other valid travel documentation
  • Proof of financial support
  • Proof of parental or other legal guardian consent if the applicant is under 18
  • Proof of relationship with parent or guardian if the applicant is under 18

Before applying for the visa, the University issues the students with a Confirmation of Acceptance to Study (CAS). After submission of the documents, students will be called by the Visa office for an interview. Decision on the student visa is given to the students within 3 weeks of application.

University Of Essex Undergraduate Admission

The university offers undergraduate courses in various disciplines like law, business, public health, life sciences and sports. Students with good academics and test scores have a better chance of getting admission. 

Due to COVID-19, admissions will now be given to the students on the basis of grades till completion of 50% of their syllabus. University will be flexible with minimum grade requirements as a result of COVID-19 disruption.

Ques. What happens on the interview day?

Ans. Information about the interview is provided in the Applicant Day Programme on myEssex portal. Every department of University of Essex holds different styles of interviews like one-to-one interviews, group interviews or group discussions.

Ques. Should I still apply if I'm currently not able to leave the country?

Ans. Yes. Those students interested in joining the University this autumn but are concerned by current travel restrictions, can still apply. Most of the courses are still open for new applicants for 2020, so University of Essex welcomes new applications at all study levels.

Ques. I’m having difficulties obtaining a reference to support my application, what do I do?

Ans. Those applicants who are currently holding an offer that is conditional upon obtaining a suitable reference or other information and they are unable to get this due to the current COVID-19 situation, please contact either our Undergraduate Admissions Team by emailing admit@essex.ac.uk or Postgraduate Admissions team at pgadmit@essex.ac.uk for advice. It is likely that they can waive the requirement to supply a reference.

Ques. Do I still need to pay my deposit?

Ans. Some students are asked to pay a deposit to secure their place on a course with us. Students should still pay this but if for any reason they are unable to start your course, it can be deferred or refunded.
