Bournemouth University Eligibility for Indian Students
Eligibility at Bournemouth University rests on two tests. The first is your academic performance in Class XII or an Indian Bachelor’s degree. The second is a recognised English proficiency score. Because the university does not run a country-based English waiver for India, Indian applicants generally file an IELTS, PTE Academic, or LanguageCert score with their application.
Undergraduate Entry Requirements for Bournemouth University
- Class XII floor: CBSE, ICSE, or state board minimum 65 percent, with higher marks required for select programs.
- Subject prerequisites: Mathematics or Science for computing and engineering, Business subjects preferred for management degrees.
- English minimum: IELTS Academic 6.0 with 5.5 in each of the four bands.
- Foundation route: BU International College accepts 60 percent Class XII scores for a one-year foundation before Year 1.
Postgraduate Entry Requirements at Bournemouth University
- Bachelor’s floor: Indian Bachelor’s (Hons) at 55 to 60 percent depending on the issuing university.
- Subject relevance: MSc programs need a related Bachelor’s, and MA courses accept a broader humanities or social science background.
- English minimum: IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 per band for most taught masters, and IELTS 6.5 for MBA and PhD candidates.
- Accepted tests: IELTS Academic (UKVI or non-UKVI), PTE Academic, and LanguageCert International ESOL for English proof.
The country-based English waiver applies only to nationals of UKVI-approved English-speaking countries, which does not include India. An Indian applicant may still be exempted if a prior degree was taught fully in English at an approved English-medium institution, but this is decided case by case.

Base tuition sits at approximately £20,000 (INR 25.89 Lakhs) for the September 2026 to 2027 cycle. Applications are open on a rolling basis through BU myHub for the September intake, with no separate application fee.
Bournemouth University MBA Eligibility Rules
- Standard route: Bachelor’s (Hons) 2:2 plus at least two years full-time relevant work experience.
- 2:1 pathway: Candidates with a 2:1 and placement or part-time work experience are considered on interview.
- Interview stage: Applicants with mixed backgrounds may be invited to interview by the MBA Director.
- English requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 with 5.5 in each of the four elements.
Insider note: If your Indian Bachelor’s is a three-year degree at second-class level, wait until you have two years of post-qualification work before applying to the BU MBA. It reduces the risk of an interview-based reject.
Bournemouth University PhD Entry and Studentship Funding
Research entry to Bournemouth University runs through the myHub portal at three points across the year, per the BU postgraduate research application page. Indian PhD applicants normally submit a research proposal, transcripts, and two academic references, and can expect a decision within four to six weeks of a complete application.

Selected candidates receive the fee waiver plus stipend for 36 months, paid monthly in arrears. For competitive funding, see the wider BU Academic Excellence Scholarship and the Scholarships page for Indian-student options.
Bournemouth University Application Process for Indian Students
Steps below reflect the official BU postgraduate application guide for taught courses and the UCAS route for undergraduate entry. Indian applicants should plan the full journey around visa lead time, which typically adds three to eight weeks.
- Register on the platform. For UG entry, open a UCAS account. The UCAS 2027-entry cycle opened on 1 September 2026. For PG entry, register on BU myHub.
- Pay the application fee. UCAS charges £34.50 (INR 4,466) for up to five UG choices. BU myHub carries no application fee for PG or PhD.
- Upload your transcripts, degree certificate or predicted Class XII marks, personal statement, and any subject-specific supplements.
- Add an IELTS, PTE Academic, or LanguageCert score, or note the pre-sessional English pathway if your score is close.
- Submit two academic references for PG and one referee for UG (school teacher or tutor).
- Track the application in the portal and respond to any conditional offer within the offer window (usually 28 days).
- Pay the £5,000 (INR 6.47 Lakhs) tuition deposit to trigger the CAS, which is required for your Student Visa application.
Bournemouth University generally releases taught PG decisions within four to six weeks of a complete file. UCAS decisions land in line with UCAS’s own timelines, and firm and insurance choices are set through UCAS Hub before the reply deadline.
Bournemouth University Documents Required for Indian Applicants
Keep every document in the university’s naming format and use PDF scans of original certificates where possible. The paperwork below is what the myHub or UCAS portal will ask for at submission.
- Passport bio page, valid for at least the full duration of your course plus six months.
- Class XII marksheet and passing certificate from CBSE, ICSE, or your state board.
- Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate (for PG entry), or provisional marksheets if final results are pending.
- English test score report (IELTS, PTE Academic, or LanguageCert), issued within the last two years.
- Personal statement tailored to the course, up to one A4 page.
- Two academic reference letters for PG and PhD entry, on institutional letterhead.
- Updated CV covering academic and work history, mandatory for MBA and PhD applications.
- Financial evidence for the CAS stage, showing tuition and living costs held for 28 consecutive days.
- Portfolio or writing sample for creative, media, and animation programs where requested.
Bournemouth University Acceptance Rate for International Applicants
Bournemouth University does not publish an official institutional acceptance figure. Third-party estimates place the overall acceptance rate near 51 percent, with international admissions running higher at 60 to 65 percent, based on competitive-intake program patterns. Indian applicants who meet the stated Class XII or Bachelor’s floor and clear the English requirement have a strong statistical chance.
What Drives Bournemouth University Selection Decisions
Admissions weigh academic percentage, subject relevance, personal statement quality, and English test scores. For creative programs, portfolio strength carries decisive weight. For MBA entry, the interview call and work history often decide close calls between 2:2 and 2:1 profiles.
How Bournemouth University Compares in the UK Ranking Band
Bournemouth University sits in the QS World University Rankings 2027 band of #801 to 850 and the THE World University Rankings 2026 band of #401 to 500, with a UK rank of 41. See the full Bournemouth University ranking band across QS, THE, and CD Study Abroad tables.
Insider note: A 55 percent Bachelor’s from a mid-tier Indian university is competitive at BU only if the subject relevance is a tight match. If your degree is off-subject, add a 6-month online certificate before applying to shore up your file.
UK Student Visa Process for Bournemouth University Applicants
Every Indian student joining Bournemouth University applies for the UK Student Visa (formerly Tier 4). The visa is filed online through the UKVI portal after your CAS is issued by BU, and the standard application fee is £524 (INR 67,837) with the Immigration Health Surcharge at £776 (INR 1.00 Lakh) per year of study.
You must show tuition plus £10,539 (INR 13.64 Lakhs) in living cost funds for nine months held for 28 consecutive days, since Bournemouth is outside the UKVI London zone. Financial evidence includes bank statements, education loan sanction letters from an approved Indian lender, or an official scholarship letter. A biometric appointment at a VFS centre in India follows online submission, and the priority decision service typically lands within five working days.
2026 update: From 1 January 2027, non-PhD graduates on the UK Graduate Route move from a two-year to an 18-month stay-back window. Factor this shift into your career plan if you land after that date.
Bournemouth University Admission Tips and Checklist
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Bournemouth University over the last two cycles, with a focus on the September 2027 primary intake.
- Request transcripts eight weeks before submission, since Indian university offices often add two to three weeks over what they promise.
- Book your IELTS or PTE slot by early October 2026 for a January 2027 UCAS deadline, so a retest window still exists.
- Draft the personal statement around one applied project from your Bachelor’s or Class XII, not around generic career goals.
- Confirm the tuition deposit is £5,000 before you set aside funds, since Haryana and Punjab domiciles pay £8,000 (INR 10.36 Lakhs).
- Accept your BU offer within 28 days of receipt so the CAS window opens ahead of visa season.
- Hold living cost funds for at least 28 consecutive days before requesting the CAS, to avoid a visa-stage refusal.
- Apply for the UK Student Visa by June 2027 if you plan to arrive for a September 2027 start, since VFS slots in India tighten from July.
Bournemouth University keeps admissions predictable for Indian students who plan around the September primary intake, a mid-year IELTS booking, and an early UCAS or myHub submission. The absence of a PG application fee lowers the entry cost, and the deposit-based CAS process rewards applicants who commit early.

- One of my batchmate was on Chevening Scholarship. She was from Kenya. And other students also got different scholarships like sports or music depending on the scholarships and their fields.

- I didn’t get any scholarship. Usually, you need to score above 7 bands in IELTS or 75 % in your bachelor's degree to get a scholarship. The scholarship amount was 3500£.
- In my batch, there were a few students who received this amount. I don't have a rough figure, but it depends on your marks. There is no limit for this scholarship; for example, even if 1000 students scored 75%, they will be eligible for scholarships.

- With various buildings and campuses depending on your course, they are equipped with latest technology and systems. Labs are open 24/7
- The campus is very easily accessible, close to the city centre and student accommodations, with short bus ride/walk
- Lecturers are very welcoming and friendly, can reach out to them for feedback or doubts at any point.

- As the course is more practical, classes are pretty limited and only a few hours every week.
- Lecturers though knowledgeable can't help us much during group projects etc, some of them don't have practical knowledge on the softwares.
- You can mostly expect feedbacks from the lectures rather than the methods to solve a problem (depends on the area of the pipeline and the lecturer)
Scholarship
- Yes, I received a scholarship in the first year of my course. It was the Academic Excellence scholarship which requires the student to have scored certain score in their 12th results.
- The award amount for the scholarship was £1500 which was deducted from the fees in the first year.
- UK and some european students recieved student loans from the University i believe. And some students also get sports/ music related scholarships (based on the course as well)
- Acadmic Excellence scholarship must be accessible to everyone who reaches the eligibility criteria, i don't think there were any limitations on how many scholarships are given each year.
