Master of Science [MSc] (Automotive Engineering with Electric Propulsion)
Field of Study:
$46,643 /Yr
University of Bath Master of Science Automotive Engineering with Electric Propulsion is a one-year, full-time, on-campus postgraduate degree in Bath. It requires a relevant bachelor’s degree at UK lower second-class honours level or above, while Bath’s India guidance typically expects a first-class bachelor’s degree. Overseas tuition is GBP 34,550 (INR 44.28 Lakhs), Bath estimates GBP 1,600 monthly living costs (INR 2.05 Lakhs), and the intake starts in September 2026.
The course develops advanced propulsion, vehicle systems thinking, modelling, testing and sustainable mobility skills. Its curriculum combines group propulsion projects with a 30-credit industry-linked research project. It suits mechanical, automotive, electrical or vehicle engineering graduates who can handle a compressed project-heavy year. The tradeoff is intensity because a single year leaves limited time to build missing fundamentals before the research project.
- An industrial mentor informs the research project, connecting technical work with a real automotive challenge.
- Students use laboratory sessions and modelling techniques to evaluate propulsion systems and vehicle platforms.
- Specialist automotive research facilities support the industry-linked project and sustainable mobility work.
Current Admission Status
Applications for the September 2026 intake are Closed. International student deadline: 30 June 2026.
Bath may consider late applications, but no late place is assured and visa timing remains critical. Indian applicants should verify a later published intake before preparing a new funding or travel plan.

The deposit is part of the tuition payment rather than an additional academic charge. Bath’s fee page also allows annual increases for future study, but this course is currently structured as one year.
- Reserve the full tuition amount because the deposit does not reduce the final fee below the published total.
- Keep a separate allowance for textbooks, travel and food because Bath does not include every course-related expense in tuition.
- Do not use a future fee estimate until Bath publishes the next academic-year row for this programme.
Cost of Living in Bath for Automotive Engineering Students
Bath estimates approximately GBP 1,600 per month (INR 2.05 Lakhs) for international student living costs. The university says Bath tends to cost more than other parts of the country, so this estimate should not be replaced with the visa minimum.
| Expense | Monthly GBP | Monthly INR | Annual GBP | Annual INR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University combined living-cost estimate | GBP 1,600 | INR 2.05 Lakhs | GBP 19,200 calculated | INR 24.61 Lakhs calculated |
Source: University of Bath money advice for international and European Union students.
The annual living figure is calculated as GBP 1,600 (INR 2.05 Lakhs) multiplied by twelve. It is a combined estimate and does not prove a particular rent, food or transport split.
For a separate residence reference, university-managed postgraduate rooms cost GBP 182 to GBP 220 per week (INR 23,325 to INR 28,195) for standard rooms. Their 51-week contracts total GBP 9,282 to GBP 11,220 (INR 11.90 Lakhs to INR 14.38 Lakhs).
A calculated one-year academic and living budget is GBP 53,750 (INR 68.89 Lakhs). This figure combines GBP 34,550 tuition (INR 44.28 Lakhs) and GBP 19,200 living costs (INR 24.61 Lakhs). It excludes the Student visa, healthcare surcharge, flights, insurance and personal costs.

Key insight: Tuition and Bath’s combined living estimate produce a calculated GBP 53,750 budget (INR 68.89 Lakhs) before immigration and travel costs. Secure funding for both components before accepting an offer.
Bath Automotive Engineering Admission 2026
Bath requires a relevant engineering degree and typically a UK lower second-class honours degree, known as a 2:2. Bath publishes no fixed Indian percentage or 10-point equivalent for that grade, so the university assesses the international equivalent. The course names mechanical, automotive, electrical and vehicle engineering as suitable backgrounds.
For Indian applicants, Bath’s country guidance typically asks for a first-class bachelor’s degree and the institution’s grading scale with the transcript. No single Indian percentage or 10-point grade-point conversion is published because grading systems vary by university.
Academic Eligibility
The academic requirement is subject-specific rather than open to every graduate discipline. A relevant degree should show enough mechanical, electrical or automotive preparation for advanced propulsion and vehicle systems work.
Bath’s Indian qualification guidance explains how transcripts and grading scales are assessed for overseas applicants.
| Admission measure | Bath requirement | Indian applicant meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Degree level | Bachelor’s honours degree or international equivalent, typically UK 2:2 or above | Bath typically expects a first-class Indian bachelor’s degree; no fixed percentage or 10-point grade-point conversion is published |
| Relevant subject | Mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, electrical engineering or vehicle engineering | Use transcripts to show propulsion, vehicle, electrical or mechanical preparation |
| Grading evidence | Institutional grading scale requested with the transcript | Upload the university’s official grading explanation with degree documents |
Bath does not publish a course-specific work-experience, Graduate Management Admission Test or Graduate Record Examination requirement on the current page. Selection therefore depends on academic fit, supporting documents and the evidence in the application.
A programme-specific ranking is not published, while relevant Mechanical Engineering subject rankings are recorded separately in Section 8.
English Language Requirements
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) requirement is 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0. IELTS tests listening, reading, writing and speaking, so each component threshold matters.
The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) route requires 62 overall with no element below 59. The Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) route remains published as 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all four components.
Bath’s current course page still shows TOEFL iBT on the 0 to 120 scale after the January 2026 scale change. Because no revised score appears on this course page, verify the accepted TOEFL format with admissions before submitting a new application.
| English route | Published requirement | Indian applicant action |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all components | Meet every band requirement |
| PTE Academic | 62 overall with no less than 59 in any element | Use the accepted Academic test format |
| TOEFL iBT | 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all four components on the published 0 to 120 scale | Confirm the scale and test date with Bath |
| India-specific exemption route | Indian degree taught in English within five years plus 12th English at 75% for Central Board of Secondary Education, Indian School Certificate or Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, or 80% for state boards | Provide the medium-of-instruction evidence and school certificate |
- Take an accepted English test within 24 months before the intended course start unless Bath confirms the India-specific exemption.
- Keep your institution’s grading scale and medium-of-instruction letter ready because Bath requests both forms of evidence in relevant cases.
- Do not convert TOEFL scores between versions because the current course page publishes only the older 0 to 120 scale.
Student perspective
One January 2024 review from an enrolled student on this master’s course described substantial projects combining teamwork and individual work. This individual observation is anecdotal, but it signals that applicants should assess their readiness for mixed project assessment through student reviews.
These comments are anecdotal and do not replace official University of Bath data.
Tip for Indian students: A first-class degree and relevant engineering subjects create the academic foundation, but English evidence and transcript grading context still need separate verification before applying.
Bath Automotive Engineering Application 2026
For September 2026, Bath published 30 June 2026 as the Overseas application deadline, so the international window is closed on the research date. The page says late applications may be considered, but no late place or visa outcome is assured.
This course has one listed intake in September and uses Bath’s online postgraduate application form. The strongest application connects a relevant engineering degree with propulsion interests, project evidence and a clear reason for choosing electric mobility.
International application timeline: Bath publishes the Overseas deadline and start-month information, but no separate decision date or interview stage for this course.
| Stage | Published date or status | Indian applicant implication |
|---|---|---|
| Intake | September 2026 | Single full-time course entry shown |
| Overseas application deadline | 30 June 2026; time not published | Closed on the research date |
| Late applications | Bath may consider late applications | Contact admissions before relying on a place or visa timeline |
| Course start information | Welcome week starts 21 September 2026 | Allow time for enrolment, travel and immigration steps |
Bath does not publish a course-specific decision date or interview requirement on the current page. This means a late applicant must obtain direct confirmation of availability rather than infer a new round from the published deadline.
Application evidence: the postgraduate form asks for education details, references, a personal statement and supporting documents, while international applicants add passport and translation evidence where relevant.
- Prepare your final or latest transcript, degree certificate and the grading scale used by your Indian university.
- Use a personal statement to connect previous engineering projects with electric propulsion, systems thinking and sustainable mobility.
- Upload an academic or professional reference, an up-to-date curriculum vitae and English evidence when available.
- Provide passport details and authorised translations for documents that are not in English.
Because the published Overseas deadline has passed, the next practical action is to ask Bath whether late applications remain possible for the current cohort. For a later intake, rebuild the application around the new course page rather than reusing the 2026 deadline.
Application tip: The 30 June 2026 date is the international deadline, not the Home deadline. Verify written confirmation of a late place before paying the GBP 1,000 deposit (INR 1.28 Lakhs).
Bath Automotive Engineering Scholarships 2026
Bath publishes two 2026/27 awards relevant to Indian Overseas applicants: the Bath Global Excellence Scholarship and the Bath Merit Scholarship. Both are tuition fee waivers, so neither replaces the GBP 1,600 monthly living estimate (INR 2.05 Lakhs).
Because the 2026 Overseas application deadline has passed, these awards cannot make a late application viable by themselves. Future national schemes are included for planning, but Bath has not published the next course cycle or its future fee.
Scholarship cycle context: the first two rows refer to September 2026 entry, while the final two rows refer to external 2027/28 schemes that require a future eligible Bath offer.
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) and BST (British Summer Time) identify the source time zones. IST (Indian Standard Time) is the local time shown for Indian applicants.
| Scholarship | Cycle and status | Published value | Indian applicant eligibility and route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bath Global Excellence Scholarship | September 2026; applications closed | GBP 10,000 fee waiver; INR 12.82 Lakhs | International offer-holder on a full-time taught master’s course in Engineering and Design, Science or Humanities and Social Sciences |
| Bath Merit Scholarship | September 2026; current published award | GBP 5,000 fee waiver; INR 6.41 Lakhs | India is listed; overseas offer-holder, full-time campus-based master’s, whole degree studied in India and high 2:2 equivalent |
| Chevening Scholarship | 2027/28; applications close 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC, 16:30 IST | Tuition, approved travel, visa, arrival and departure allowances plus a monthly stipend; no fixed total published | Indian applicant with at least two years of post-degree work experience who applies through Chevening and commits to return home |
| Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship | 2027/28; applications open 8 September and close 20 October 2026 at 16:00 BST, 20:30 IST | Full approved tuition, travel and visa costs plus GBP 1,712 monthly stipend; INR 2.19 Lakhs at current rates | India is eligible; first degree at upper second standard or lower second with relevant postgraduate study, nominated through an approved route |
The Bath Global Excellence award requires an offer and can reduce tuition by GBP 10,000 (INR 12.82 Lakhs), but its September 2026 applications are closed. The Bath Merit award is automatic when its criteria are met, yet it also depends on an eligible offer and fee status.
Chevening and Commonwealth funding can be substantial, but their return-home or nomination conditions change the career decision. They should be treated as separate competitions rather than guaranteed discounts on Bath tuition.
- Check the Bath Global Excellence criteria first if the next cycle reopens because this award is open to international full-time master’s applicants in the relevant faculties.
- Keep your Indian degree records ready for Bath Merit because the award requires study of the whole degree in the applicant’s country.
- Use Chevening only if you can document 2,800 hours of post-degree work experience and accept its home-return commitment.
- Use Commonwealth funding only after checking the approved nominating agency because direct applications are not accepted for the master’s scheme.

Scholarship reality: The GBP 10,000 Bath Global Excellence award (INR 12.82 Lakhs) cannot offset a closed 2026 application window. Treat funding as a route to reduce cost only after admission and cycle eligibility are confirmed.
Bath Automotive Engineering Salary 2026
Bath does not publish a course-specific employment rate, graduate salary or cohort report for this master’s course. The current course page instead lists technical roles and employers as examples, which show possible directions rather than typical outcomes.
Bath names Component Engineer, supplier quality development engineer, Battery Cooling Component Engineer and Control Systems Engineer as possible roles. It also names AVL, Jaguar Land Rover, McLaren Automotive and Rolls-Royce, but employer presence does not prove recruitment volume or a salary guarantee.
| Evidence scope | Published evidence | Decision meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Course-level career evidence | Technical roles in component engineering, battery cooling and control systems | Use the curriculum to build evidence for targeted engineering applications |
| Named employer examples | AVL, Jaguar Land Rover, McLaren Automotive and Rolls-Royce | Reported employment examples, not a recruiter list or placement rate |
| Course-cohort salary | Not published on the current course page | Do not treat an external occupation range as a Bath graduate outcome |
Source: University of Bath Automotive Engineering with Electric Propulsion course page.
The closest external benchmark is the National Careers Service automotive engineer profile. It reports an occupation-level range rather than a Bath graduate result.
| Evidence scope | GBP salary range | INR equivalent | Use in planning |
|---|---|---|---|
| External automotive engineer benchmark | GBP 26,000 starter to GBP 48,000 experienced | INR 33.32 Lakhs to INR 61.52 Lakhs | Market context only, not a course or graduate salary |
Source: UK National Careers Service automotive engineer profile.
ROI decision: the calculated one-year tuition and living cost is GBP 53,750 (INR 68.89 Lakhs) before immigration, travel and personal costs.
- Because Bath publishes no course salary or offer rate, obtain role-specific UK or India salary evidence before committing the calculated GBP 53,750 cost (INR 68.89 Lakhs).
- The 30-credit industry-linked project can strengthen a portfolio, so choose a research topic that demonstrates battery, control or propulsion capability.
- The Graduate Route gives 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027, so model job-search risk within that shorter post-study window.
- If you plan to return to India, compare Indian automotive offers separately because the UK benchmark does not predict Indian take-home pay.
Take-home pay varies with role, location, tax and pension deductions. Use an official UK tax calculator after receiving a confirmed offer rather than converting gross salary into repayment capacity.
ROI reality: Bath provides technical role examples but no course salary or employment rate. The GBP 53,750 calculated cost (INR 68.89 Lakhs) therefore requires evidence from your target market and funding plan.
UK Visa for Bath Automotive Engineering Students 2026
International applicants normally need a UK Student visa for this full-time, one-year course after receiving an eligible offer. The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is separate from tuition and the visa fee. It supports access to National Health Service treatment, but it does not replace Bath’s living-cost estimate.
Check the official UK Student visa rules before relying on these figures because immigration charges and eligibility conditions can change.
- The Student visa application fee is GBP 558 (INR 71,513), and the IHS is GBP 776 per year (INR 99,452).
- Outside London, visa maintenance is GBP 1,171 monthly (INR 1.50 Lakhs) for up to nine months, or GBP 10,539 total (INR 13.51 Lakhs).
- The Graduate Route lasts 18 months from 1 January 2027, while Skilled Worker sponsorship usually requires GBP 41,700 (INR 53.44 Lakhs) or the higher going rate.
- Dependants are generally restricted for a taught postgraduate course starting after 1 January 2024, unless a government-sponsored or research-based exception applies.
The visa maintenance amount and Bath’s GBP 1,600 monthly living estimate (INR 2.05 Lakhs) answer different questions. Use Bath’s estimate for budgeting and the visa figure for financial evidence, rather than substituting one for the other.
After five qualifying years, a Skilled Worker route may support settlement if all requirements are met. The Graduate Route itself cannot be extended, so a graduate normally needs another eligible route before it expires.
Check Out: UK Student visa requirements
Visa reality: The one-year course can connect to a UK Student visa only after an eligible offer and sponsorship process. Budget the GBP 558 visa fee (INR 71,513) separately from tuition, living costs and the IHS.
Bath Automotive Engineering Ranking 2026
Bath does not publish a ranking specifically for Automotive Engineering with Electric Propulsion. Relevant Mechanical Engineering rankings provide discipline context, but they do not measure this master’s teaching, admission odds or graduate salary.
Ranking scope: the positions below belong to the named Mechanical Engineering subject or university ranking, not to the individual course.
QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) is the publisher named in the ranking source. Its subject table is used here only for Mechanical Engineering context.
| Ranking source | Edition | Position | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Complete University Guide | 2027 | 5th | Mechanical Engineering subject |
| Guardian University Guide | 2026 | 3rd | Mechanical Engineering subject |
| The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide | 2026 | 5th | Mechanical Engineering subject |
| Daily Mail University Guide | 2027 | 6th out of 69 | Mechanical Engineering subject |
| QS World University Rankings by Subject | 2026 | =139th | Mechanical Engineering subject |
The subject results support Bath’s wider engineering context, but they cannot substitute for the course’s relevant degree requirement, project structure or financial evidence. Use them as background after checking the exact curriculum and cycle.
Honest take: Bath’s Mechanical Engineering subject results are useful context, not a course outcome. The one-year project model and verified cost should carry more weight in an Indian applicant’s decision.
University of Bath Automotive Engineering with Electric Propulsion fits an Indian engineer seeking advanced propulsion, systems thinking and a substantial industry-linked project. The relevant degree requirement makes prior mechanical, automotive, electrical or vehicle engineering preparation central to fit. The material tradeoff is the compressed one-year workload, the GBP 53,750 calculated academic and living budget (INR 68.89 Lakhs) and the closed September 2026 Overseas window. For a future intake, verify the new course page, Overseas deadline, fee and scholarship rules before committing funds.

- Great reputation, one of the best ranking and good curriculum as per modules. Also beautiful city and infrastructure which attracted me.
- The infrastructure, the view, the environment, the students coordination, the sports facilities, the positive vibes, so much greenery and peace . In the winters the campus looks so beautiful especially if you go at early mornings, campus covered with fog and those cold breeze with little sunshine too, that was amazing.
Dislikes
- Honestly , I would say nothing like that. That was all a new experience for me to go and study abroad, everything was new and exciting for me. I think I will say , that there were so many great and beautiful things, which I didn't wanted to leave and now I miss them, this is the only dislike I can think of.
The overall experience was great and it really developed me a lot, in terms of way of thinking, positive mindset and how to create a good work culture and environment. The course gave me a lot of learning and some very good and big projects including team work and individual aspects of striking them. There were some challenges and problems too, but with the support of faculties and a good environment, I tackled everything and successfully completed everything with so much of excitement and experience.
