Fee update: The 2027/28 fee applies to September 2027 entry and publishes around April 2027. For reference, the 2026/27 rate for MSc Business Analytics is £27,600 (INR 30.36 Lakhs); expect a rise of roughly 4% for 2027/28, or approximately £28,700 (INR 31.57 Lakhs).

When to pay: A £2,000 (INR 2.20 Lakhs) tuition deposit is due within 4 weeks of your unconditional offer to release the CAS. Full payment mechanics sit in the Tuition Deposit section below, so refer there for methods and steps.

Key Insight: The September 2027 intake bills at the 2027/28 rate, projected at roughly £28,700 (INR 31.57 Lakhs) for a STEM MSc. Starting in September 2027 costs approximately INR 1.20 Lakhs more per year than the current 2026/27 rate. If you defer to the January 2028 intake, the same 2027/28 rate applies with no additional penalty, so the timing choice is driven by application readiness, not fee.

Cost of Living in Belfast for Indian Students at Queen’s University Belfast

Belfast is the most affordable Russell Group city for international students. Total monthly living costs run £1,025 (INR 1.13 Lakhs) for a modest student lifestyle, roughly 40% lower than London and 20% lower than Manchester or Edinburgh.

Note: The UKVI Student Visa requires proof of £1,023 per month for 9 months (£9,207 total, INR 10.13 Lakhs) as maintenance funds for a student studying outside London. This is a visa financial threshold, not your actual monthly spend. Hold this balance in a fixed deposit or savings account in your name for 28 consecutive days before submitting the visa application.

Belfast’s affordability translates directly into a lower total programme cost than any other Russell Group city. An MSc Data Analytics student at QUB pays roughly INR 6 to 8 Lakhs less across the full year than the same course at UCL or Imperial College London, purely on living cost differences.

Currency Tip: Your first tuition instalment for the September 2027 intake falls due at registration. Use QUB’s Convera GlobalPay portal or a forex card (ICICI Sapphiro, HDFC Multicurrency, Niyo Global) to move the funds. Either option saves 2 to 3% versus a raw SWIFT wire from an Indian bank, which on a £27,600 (INR 30.36 Lakhs) tuition bill works out to INR 60,000 to 90,000 saved across a single academic year.

Total Cost of Studying at Queen’s University Belfast for Indian Students

Full first-year cost for an Indian student at QUB ranges from INR 37.31 Lakhs for an undergraduate business degree to INR 45.28 Lakhs for a postgraduate STEM masters. All figures use the current 2026/27 fee year; September 2027 tuition will add roughly 4% for the 2027/28 rate.

Mandatory Fees Year 1 = UK Student Visa £490 (INR 53,900) + Immigration Health Surcharge £776 (INR 85,360). IHS is paid upfront for the full visa duration in one lump sum: a 1-year MSc visa (16 months) attracts roughly £1,164 (INR 1.28 Lakhs), and a 3-year UG visa attracts roughly £2,716 (INR 2.99 Lakhs). Full programme totals for popular Indian-applied tracks: a 1-year MSc STEM costs approximately INR 45.28 Lakhs. A 3-year BSc STEM adds up to roughly INR 1.25 Crore across the full degree, while a 3-year BSc Business runs to about INR 1.11 Crore. On an INR 45 Lakhs education loan at 10.5% for 10 years, the monthly EMI works out to approximately INR 60,700 per month.

Key Insight: The India Scholarship (£2,500, INR 2.75 Lakhs) reduces PG tuition automatically to £25,100 (INR 27.61 Lakhs), cutting Year 1 total to INR 42.53 Lakhs. High academic profiles may instead qualify for the Vice-Chancellor’s International Attainment Scholarship (20% off tuition), which drops MSc STEM tuition to £22,080 (INR 24.29 Lakhs) if it is the larger of the two awards. Confirm which reduction applies to you before your CAS is issued to lock the discount for September 2027 entry.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships close in similar timing. If you miss both, KC Mahindra (deadline March 2027) offers an interest-free loan up to INR 10 Lakhs, and Inlaks (deadline April 2027) funds shortlisted candidates up to USD 100,000 (INR 83 Lakhs).

Queen’s University Belfast Tuition Deposit and Payment Options for International Students

You pay a £2,000 (INR 2.20 Lakhs) tuition deposit to accept your unconditional offer and trigger issuance of your CAS, the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies document required for the UK Student Visa. The deposit is non-refundable except in specified visa-refusal cases, and it counts toward your total tuition bill.

Methods of Payment at Queen’s University Belfast

  • Convera GlobalPay for Students (QUB’s preferred international payment channel): direct Indian bank transfer with a locked-in exchange rate, typically 2 to 3% cheaper than raw SWIFT wires
  • Debit or credit card via the QUB Online Payment Portal: instant confirmation, but watch for a 3 to 4% forex markup applied by Indian card issuers
  • Forex card (ICICI Sapphiro, HDFC Multicurrency, Niyo Global): pre-loaded at the buying rate; use for card payments on the portal to skip Indian card markup
  • SWIFT bank transfer from an Indian bank: allow 3 to 5 working days for settlement, plus a £15 to 25 (INR 1,650 to 2,750) sender fee and possible intermediary bank charges
  • Education loan disbursement: most Indian lenders (SBI, HDFC Credila, Avanse, Axis Bank) can wire tuition directly to QUB in GBP against your CAS

Steps to Pay Tuition Fees at Queen’s University Belfast for International Students

  1. Accept your unconditional offer through the QUB Applicant Portal
  2. Pay the £2,000 (INR 2.20 Lakhs) tuition deposit within 4 weeks via Convera or debit card
  3. Receive your CAS statement by email within 5 to 10 working days of deposit clearance
  4. Apply for the UK Student Visa using the CAS number, allowing 3 to 8 weeks for processing (or 5 working days with the £500, INR 55,000, priority service)
  5. Pay the remaining tuition balance either as a single lump sum before registration, or in two instalments (typically 60% at enrolment in September, 40% by 31 January)
  6. Keep every payment receipt (deposit, tuition, IHS, visa fee) for your visa file and university records

QUB has offered a modest early-payment discount of around 2% for full upfront tuition in previous years. Confirm the current year’s discount, and its exact percentage, on the QUB Student Finance page before scheduling a full payment.

Source: QUB Student Finance and How to Pay Your Tuition Fees, qub.ac.uk/directorates/FinanceDirectorate/StudentFinance.

Note: For September 2027 entry, your £2,000 (INR 2.20 Lakhs) deposit must clear at QUB within 4 weeks of the offer, and typically before mid-July 2027 to allow 5 to 11 weeks combined for CAS issuance and visa processing. A Convera transfer settles in 2 to 3 working days; a raw SWIFT wire can take 5 to 7. Start the deposit process the day your offer arrives so the CAS is not delayed.

Hidden Costs of Studying at Queen’s University Belfast

Beyond tuition and rent, budget INR 4.5 to 5.5 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs at QUB. The Immigration Health Surcharge is the single largest overlooked expense, charged upfront when you submit the Student Visa application.

  • UK Student Visa fee: £490 (INR 53,900), paid once with your visa application, non-refundable
  • Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): £776 per year (INR 85,360), paid upfront for the full visa duration in one lump sum; a 1-year MSc visa (16 months) comes to roughly £1,164 (INR 1.28 Lakhs), a 3-year UG visa to roughly £2,716 (INR 2.99 Lakhs)
  • Priority visa service: £500 (INR 55,000), optional; cuts visa processing from up to 8 weeks to 5 working days
  • IELTS or PTE test: INR 17,000 to 18,500, plus another INR 17,000 for a retake if you miss QUB’s minimum band
  • Flight Delhi or Mumbai to Belfast: INR 45,000 to 70,000 one-way, typically routed through London Heathrow; book 3 to 4 months ahead
  • Setup on arrival: £600 to 900 (INR 66,000 to 99,000), covering bedding, kitchenware, winter jacket, boots, and first grocery run
  • Bank transfer and forex fees: roughly 2 to 3% per transaction, or INR 60,000 to 90,000 across a full year of remittances
  • Books and equipment beyond library stock: £150 to 300 (INR 16,500 to 33,000), heavier for engineering, computing, and clinical disciplines
  • Winter clothing: £200 to 350 (INR 22,000 to 38,500) for a proper coat, waterproofs, and boots; Belfast winters are milder than mainland UK but consistently wet

Budget approximately INR 4.5 to 5.5 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs on top of tuition and living, plus roughly INR 1 Lakh in each subsequent year of a multi-year degree.

Note: The IHS is the cost most Indian families forget when sizing the education loan. For a 1-year MSc, add £1,164 (INR 1.28 Lakhs) as a mandatory upfront payment. This falls due within 2 to 3 weeks of your CAS being issued, not at enrolment, so it must sit in your loan disbursement or forex plan alongside the £490 visa fee itself.

Fee Saving Strategies for Indian Students at Queen’s University Belfast

The single biggest fee saver for the September 2027 intake is landing a Chevening Scholarship, which covers full tuition of INR 30.36 Lakhs plus a monthly stipend. Chevening opens in early August 2026 and closes 5 November 2026, giving you roughly three months to prepare a strong essay set.

  • Apply to Chevening the week it opens. Chevening awards Indian applicants preferentially, and the November 2026 close for September 2027 entry is a hard, non-negotiable deadline. Winning it saves full tuition of INR 30.36 Lakhs plus roughly INR 15 to 18 Lakhs in stipend and airfare across the year.
  • Live in QUB Elms Village or a shared private house. On-campus Elms rooms start at £120 per week (INR 13,200) for a single en-suite; private shared houses in South Belfast (BT7 and BT9 postcodes) run £110 to 140 per week (INR 12,100 to 15,400) versus £160+ (INR 17,600+) for a studio flat, a saving of INR 2 to 3 Lakhs a year.
  • Work up to 20 hours a week during term. A Student Visa permits part-time work at the UK minimum wage of £11.44 per hour (INR 1,258) at the 2026/27 rate. Working 15 to 18 hours weekly earns roughly £180 a week (INR 19,800), or £6,500 a year (INR 7.15 Lakhs) to cover groceries and transport.
  • Claim Section 80E of the Income Tax Act. Interest paid on an Indian education loan is fully deductible for 8 years from the year repayment begins. On an INR 45 Lakhs loan at 10.5%, this saves INR 4 to 6 Lakhs across the loan lifetime.
  • Check whether your programme sits in the lower fee band. Business, Law, and Humanities at £22,400 to £23,000 are INR 4.60 to 5.06 Lakhs a year cheaper than STEM. If your career target allows it, an MSc International Business or MSc Management at £23,000 (INR 25.30 Lakhs) saves roughly INR 5 Lakhs versus MSc Business Analytics at £27,600 (INR 30.36 Lakhs).
  • Plan around the UK Graduate Route Visa. After completing your Master’s, the Graduate Route currently allows a 2-year post-study work window at any salary with no employer sponsorship. Two years of a £25,000 to 30,000 job in Belfast (INR 27.5 to 33 Lakhs annually) covers the loan EMI of INR 60,700 per month with clear headroom.

Tip for Indian Students: Your single highest-value action for the September 2027 intake is drafting the Chevening application between July and October 2026 for the 5 November 2026 submission. A strong Chevening essay set typically takes 60 to 80 hours of drafting and review. If awarded, you save INR 30.36 Lakhs in tuition and roughly INR 15 Lakhs in stipend, a total of INR 45+ Lakhs on a QUB MSc.

Is Queen’s University Belfast Worth the Cost for Indian Students

Yes. A 1-year MSc STEM at QUB costs INR 45.28 Lakhs, and the UK Graduate Route Visa currently gives you two years of unrestricted post-study work to recoup it. QUB sits at 174 in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and is a Russell Group member alongside Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, and Imperial College London.

The QUB QS World Rank has climbed from 233 in 2023 to 174 in 2027, a 59-position rise in four years and one of the fastest ascents in the Russell Group. Pharmacy at QUB ranks 19th globally in the QS Subject Rankings 2026, Nursing sits at 48th, and English Literature, Performing Arts, and Social Policy each sit in the QS global top 100. In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, QUB is placed 79th worldwide overall, with SDG 14 (Life Below Water) at 14th globally.

The UK Graduate Route Visa, currently in force with a 2-year post-study work window for Master’s graduates, lets you work anywhere in the UK on any salary with no employer sponsorship. On an INR 45 Lakhs education loan at 10.5% for 10 years, your monthly EMI is approximately INR 60,700, which a typical UK starting salary in the £25,000 to 30,000 band (INR 27.5 to 33 Lakhs annually) covers comfortably from the first month of employment.

Key Insight: For an MSc Business Analytics with the India Scholarship applied, net Year 1 cost drops to INR 42.53 Lakhs. On an INR 42.5 Lakhs loan at 10.5% for 10 years, the EMI is approximately INR 57,300 per month. A first-year Graduate Route salary of £28,000 (INR 30.80 Lakhs annually, roughly INR 2.57 Lakhs per month gross) covers this EMI more than 4x over, leaving a comfortable payback horizon of 7 to 8 years while you live and work in the UK.

QUB combines Russell Group prestige, a rising QS trajectory (174 in 2027, up from 233 in 2023), and the lowest cost of living of any Russell Group city. For Indian students choosing between a tier-1 UK city (London, Manchester) and a value-focused one, QUB delivers the same degree recognition at roughly INR 6 to 10 Lakhs less across a full programme.

On an INR 45 Lakhs education loan, your monthly EMI works out to approximately INR 60,700 over 10 years, comfortably covered by the 2-year Graduate Route Visa. Ans. Yes. The UK Student Visa permits up to 20 hours of paid work per week during term at the UK minimum wage of £11.44 per hour (2026/27 rate). Working 15 to 18 hours weekly typically earns £180 (INR 19,800) per week, enough to cover groceries and transport across the year.

Ques. What is the Chevening Scholarship deadline for Queen’s University Belfast September 2027 entry?

Ans. Chevening opens in early August 2026 and closes on 5 November 2026 for the September 2027 intake. It covers full tuition (INR 30.36 Lakhs at QUB), a monthly stipend, and return airfare. Indian applicants need at least 2 years of full-time work experience by the deadline.

Ques. How much loan EMI will I pay for a Queen’s University Belfast MSc?

Ans. An INR 45 Lakhs education loan at 10.5% for 10 years works out to approximately INR 60,700 per month. On an INR 30 Lakhs loan (assuming a scholarship covers the rest), the EMI drops to roughly INR 40,500 per month.

Ques. Does the September 2027 intake use the 2026/27 or 2027/28 fee rate?

Ans. The 2027/28 rate applies to both the September 2027 and January 2028 intakes. QUB publishes the confirmed 2027/28 rate around April 2027; until then, budget approximately 4% above the current 2026/27 fee of £27,600 (INR 30.36 Lakhs) for a STEM MSc.

Ques. What is the UK Graduate Route Visa duration for Queen’s University Belfast Master’s graduates?

Ans. The Graduate Route currently gives you 2 years to work in the UK after completing your Master’s, with no employer sponsorship and no minimum salary requirement. This is enough to cover a typical INR 45 Lakhs loan EMI (INR 60,700 per month) on a UK starting salary of £25,000 to 30,000 (INR 27.5 to 33 Lakhs annually).

Ques. Is Queen’s University Belfast in the Russell Group?

Ans. Yes. QUB is one of 24 Russell Group universities alongside Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, and Imperial College London. It sits at 174 in the QS World University Rankings 2027, up from 233 in 2023, and 79th in the THE Impact Rankings 2025.

Ques. Can I apply to Queen’s University Belfast for the January 2028 intake?

Ans. Some postgraduate programmes accept January starts, but the majority of QUB courses (including all undergraduate programmes) run only a September intake. Check the individual programme page on the QUB course finder before assuming a January 2028 entry is available for your target course.

  • I was lucky enough to get into one of the cheapest accommodations that the QUB has to offer. I stay at a place named Mount Charles. I had applied for it in the month of April 2024. I was allowed a standard room in Mount Charles, which cost £110/week. Small Standard at the same accommodation goes for £85/week. But, as I mentioned before, I had received a £1000 bursary for accommodation; it cost me £90/week for a 51-week contract. In total, I paid £4610 and £300 deposit while booking.
  • Mount Charles is basically a house. The washroom and bathroom are shared between 3 members, the kitchen is shared between 4 members and the laundry room & common room are shared among 9 residents. It seems like a lot of sharing but trust me, it is very empty most of the time. The house has one issue though, which is the noise. Since the house is essentially made out of wood, everyone can hear everyone else. The residents need to have an understanding among themselves and must use headphones. The laundry room is only free in Mount Charles and paid in all other locations like BT9, BT1 and BT2. Even private accommodations like Little Patrick Street (LPS), Great Patrick Street (GPS), Nelson Place, Vita and Botanic Studios. Most of these places are going to charge anywhere between £6 and £8 for per round of laundry. But it is free in Mount Charles.
  • It is recommended to apply quick and have some research done on the accommodation details provided on Queen's website. Most of the accommodation are located near hot zones. BT1 is in City Centre (too far for business school), BT2 is between City Centre and Queens Lanyon building/Students Union, Mount Charles & College Garden are beside Lanyon building, which is equal distance from business school and city centers so is best for university and city centre run for groceries and lastly BT9 is very near to business school but really far away from city centre. LPS, Student Liv, GPS and Nelson Place are all near Ulster University, which is really, really far away.
