University of Dundee offers 40+ scholarships across its regional portfolio, of which 9 are directly accessible to Indian applicants across UG, PG, and PhD levels.

  • Standard international UG tuition sits between £21,800 and £28,000 per year (INR 28.09 to 36.08 Lakhs)
  • With the Global Excellence Undergraduate waiver, net UG tuition drops to £14,300 to £20,500 per year (INR 18.43 to 26.42 Lakhs)
  • The best PG combo (Global Excellence PG plus Alumni) knocks £11,000 (INR 14.17 Lakhs) off year-one tuition
  • Next major internal deadline: 28 August 2026, 23:59 UK time for September 2026 intake awards

Every internal award is a partial fee reduction. Indians who want full funding pair a Dundee award with an external UK government route like Chevening or Commonwealth.

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 GBP = INR 128.86 as of August 2026. The UK Home Office also requires proof of £10,224 per year (INR 13.18 Lakhs) for living costs outside London, which applies to Dundee.

University of Dundee Scholarships for UG Students

Scholarship Amount Eligibility for Indian Applicants Deadline (Sep 2026 / Jan 2027)
Global Excellence Scholarship Undergraduate £7,500 per year (INR 9.66 Lakhs) International fee status, AAB at A-Level or roughly 90% aggregate at CBSE / ISC, tuition £21,800+, excludes Medicine and Dentistry 28 August 2026 / 30 January 2027
Vice Chancellor’s South Asia Undergraduate Scholarship £6,500 year one, £4,000 later years (INR 8.38 / 5.15 Lakhs) International fee status, South Asia domicile including India 28 August 2026 / 30 January 2027
Alumni Scholarship £3,000 (INR 3.87 Lakhs) Applicant is a University of Dundee graduate or completed at least one semester exchange there 28 August 2026 / 29 January 2027
Alumni and Family Scholarship £3,000 (INR 3.87 Lakhs) Applicant is an alum or immediate family member of a Dundee alum 28 August 2026 / 29 January 2027

Undergraduate awards at University of Dundee are auto-assessed. Send your final CBSE, ISC or A-Level mark sheet to the Admissions Team; predicted grades will not trigger the discount.

The Global Excellence and Vice Chancellor’s routes cover the same core courses, so pick whichever gives a bigger year-one saving. Alumni benefits stack with either, but the Alumni and Family award cannot be combined with any other Dundee scholarship.

University of Dundee Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students

Scholarship Amount Eligibility for Indian Applicants Deadline
Global Excellence Scholarship Postgraduate £8,000 (INR 10.31 Lakhs) International fee status, UK First Class Honours equivalent (70%+ or 8.0 CGPA), taught master’s with tuition £22,250+ 28 August 2026 (September intake) / 29 January 2027 (January intake)
Vice Chancellor’s South Asia Postgraduate Scholarship £6,500 year one (INR 8.38 Lakhs) International fee status, domiciled in India or another South Asian country 28 August 2026 / 30 January 2027
Alumni Scholarship £3,000 (INR 3.87 Lakhs) Prior Dundee UG or PG graduate, or exchange programme completer 28 August 2026 / 29 January 2027
GREAT India Scholarship £10,000 (INR 12.89 Lakhs) Indian passport holder, full-time taught master’s, competitive statement of purpose required Tentative 15 May 2027 (annual British Council cycle)

PG applicants get the strongest stack by pairing the Global Excellence award (£8,000) with the Alumni Scholarship (£3,000). Year-one tuition saving reaches £11,000 (INR 14.17 Lakhs) against a £22,250 fee base.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants report that the £5,000 tuition deposit must be paid upfront to trigger the CAS letter (visa-required Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). The scholarship discount later reduces the remaining balance, not the deposit itself.

Applicants planning a September 2026 start should firm up their offer by early August. The Admissions Team cannot review awards until final degree transcripts sit on file, and 28 August is a hard cut-off.

India-Specific Scholarships at University of Dundee

Scholarship Level Amount Application Route
Vice Chancellor’s South Asia Undergraduate Award UG £6,500 year one, £4,000 later years (INR 8.38 / 5.15 Lakhs) Auto-assessed on offer acceptance
Vice Chancellor’s South Asia Postgraduate Award PG £6,500 year one (INR 8.38 Lakhs) Auto-assessed on offer acceptance
GREAT India Scholarship PG £10,000 (INR 12.89 Lakhs) Separate British Council application; competitive SOP

These three awards are ring-fenced for Indian domicile applicants. The two Vice Chancellor’s routes trigger automatically once you accept a Dundee offer with international fee status.

The GREAT India Scholarship is jointly funded by the British Council and Dundee. Only a handful of Indian recipients are picked each cycle, so tie your SOP to a concrete return-to-India career plan. Match your target course against Dundee admission requirements before drafting your statement.

University of Dundee PhD Scholarships

Scholarship Coverage Discipline and Eligibility Cycle
BBSRC EASTBIO Doctoral Training Partnership Full tuition, £19,237 annual stipend, £5,000 research training allowance (INR 24.79 Lakhs stipend) Life Sciences PhD, four-year track, international applicants eligible on a limited quota Applications open October, close early December each year
MRC PPU Prize Studentship Full tuition, £21,342 tax-free stipend (INR 27.50 Lakhs) Biomedical Sciences PhD in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit, open to international applicants Annual cycle; tentative applications close 5 December 2026
Dundee Joint PhD (Partner Council Route) Dundee waives fees; the partner council (China Scholarship Council; India route runs similarly via ICMR or CSIR partnerships) funds stipend and travel Any PhD subject with a Dundee supervisor accepting the candidate first Tentative April 2027 close for 2027 intake
Structured PhD Programme Tuition varies; self-funded plus supervisor grants where available Health Sciences, Medicine, Life Sciences, Science and Engineering; adds first-year skills training Rolling intake, apply six months before start

Indian PhD applicants exploring University of Dundee programs should first check if the target lab holds a UK Research and Innovation studentship. These UKRI-backed awards cover both fees and living costs, whereas self-funded PhDs still need external backing like Commonwealth.

Dundee’s Life Sciences and Medical Research groups drive most funded PhD slots. Engineering and Business doctorates are typically self-funded, so plan for Chevening-style routes if you sit outside biosciences.

External Government Scholarships for University of Dundee Applicants

Scholarship Amount Eligibility for Indian Applicants Deadline
Chevening Scholarship (UK FCDO) Full tuition, monthly stipend, return airfare, visa costs (worth £50,000+, INR 64.43 Lakhs total) Indian citizen, undergraduate degree, minimum 2,800 hours (2 years) of work experience, commit to return to India for 2 years 6 October 2026, 11:00 UTC (2027-28 intake)
Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship Full tuition, monthly stipend, return airfare Indian citizen, one-year taught master’s, apply via the MoE SAKSHAT portal and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) central portal Tentative mid-October 2026 (2027-28 intake)
Commonwealth PhD Scholarship Full tuition, monthly stipend, return airfare, mid-course home visit Indian citizen, PhD at a UK institution partnered with the CSC Tentative October 2026 (2027-28 intake); national nomination cut-off earlier
Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship Up to USD 100,000 (INR 88.62 Lakhs) Indian citizen, first postgraduate degree abroad, age 30 or under on 1 July of the application year Tentative 8 April 2027 (annual cycle)

Indian applicants who need full living-cost coverage go external. Chevening and Commonwealth are the workhorses; both fund one-year taught master’s programmes and pay a monthly stipend near £1,093 (INR 1.41 Lakhs).

Reddit Insight: Applicant threads say Chevening reviewers reward specific, measurable return-to-India projects over generic career goals. Leadership essays that name real Indian institutions or ministries score higher than vague sector references.

Documents you should ready before external deadlines:

  • Two Chevening-format reference letters, uploaded via the applicant portal
  • Three UK master’s course choices (Chevening allows three universities, with Dundee as one of them)
  • Work experience letter certifying 2,800 hours, formatted per Chevening’s template
  • Valid passport scan; the same passport is used through the visa stage

University of Dundee Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian applicant can secure at University of Dundee?

Ans. The top internal combo pairs the Global Excellence PG Scholarship (£8,000) with the Alumni Scholarship (£3,000). Together, they knock £11,000 (INR 14.17 Lakhs) off year one against a £22,250+ tuition base. For full funding, Indian applicants pair this with Chevening or Commonwealth, since Dundee itself offers only partial fee reductions.

Ques. When should Indian students apply for University of Dundee scholarships?

Ans. Most internal Dundee awards close on 28 August 2026 at 23:59 UK time for the September intake. January 2027 applicants face a 29 or 30 January 2027 cut-off depending on the award. Get your offer letter at least six weeks before the deadline; auto-assessment cannot start without final transcripts on file.

Ques. Do I need a separate application form for the Global Excellence Scholarship?

Ans. No. The University of Dundee Admissions Team automatically checks your final academic transcripts once uploaded. Predicted grades will not qualify you, so official CBSE, ISC or bachelor’s mark sheets must reach Dundee before the closing date.

Ques. What grade do Indian applicants need for the Global Excellence Scholarship?

Ans. Undergraduate hopefuls need AAB at A-Level or an Indian equivalent of roughly 90% aggregate in the top five CBSE or ISC subjects. Postgraduate applicants must hold a UK First Class Honours equivalent, which maps to 70%+ or 8.0 CGPA on Indian scales.

Ques. How competitive is the GREAT India Scholarship at Dundee?

Ans. The GREAT India Scholarship at Dundee awards a fixed £10,000 (INR 12.89 Lakhs) and picks only a handful of Indian recipients per cycle. The next window is tentatively 15 May 2027, following the annual British Council calendar. Focus your statement on a concrete return-to-India plan tied to your master’s specialisation.

Ques. Do University of Dundee scholarships cover living costs in Dundee?

Ans. No internal Dundee scholarship covers living expenses. UK Visas and Immigration requires proof of £10,224 (INR 13.18 Lakhs) per year for cost-of-living outside London, and every internal award targets tuition only. For living-cost coverage, apply to Chevening or Commonwealth; both fund about £1,093 (INR 1.41 Lakhs) per month plus airfare.

Ques. Can Indian applicants combine multiple University of Dundee scholarships?

Ans. Some pairs stack, others do not. The Alumni Scholarship combines with either Global Excellence or Vice Chancellor’s South Asia, but not with the Alumni and Family award. Plan cash flow around the tuition deposit near £5,000, which must be paid before your award discount is applied.

  • I stayed in university student accommodation, which was well-managed and felt very safe throughout my stay. The overall experience was really good, especially in terms of convenience, community, and proximity to campus.
  • However, it was on the expensive side compared to private options. Monthly rent: around £1000. Facilities included: furnished room, utilities, common areas, and security. Overall, while it was costly, it provided a comfortable and hassle-free living experience, especially for someone moving to a new country.

Scholarship

  • As I mentioned I did receive academic excellence scholarship and also Asian student scholarship at University of Dundee
  • Also my friend received it as well. It was 6000 pounds.
  • Also for financial aid and other details, they do provide loans for students who are struggling with money and also set up rental properties and suggest where would be affordable.

  • On-campus accommodation.
  • They had different units for different courses and were pretty spacious and had a communal kitchen area where we could meet other flatmates and communicate and celebrate birthdays and such.
  • There were 6 rooms for one flat where I stayed. I would still recommend choosing University accommodation as it is super safe and also all the amenities come with the contract price. I stayed in uni accommodation so it was just 2 minutes away from the main building.

  • Yes, I received a 5000 pounds scholarship.
  • I received 5000 pounds. There’s no particular name for the scholarship; the university provides this scholarship for the students who got good grades in their bachelor’s.
  • Yes, many of my classmates received a 5000 pounds scholarship, that’s deducted from the total fees.
  • Every 15 people of 20 students received the scholarship.

  • I found accommodation through apps like SpareRoom and Glassdoor.
  • I used to pay 400 pounds, which excludes the electricity and water bills.
  • Finding accommodations is very difficult due to the number of students coming to study.
  • Yes, I suggest students search for accommodation through apps, or if they have any friends or family members living there, they can take their help.
  • My accommodation was only 15 minutes walking distance to the university.

University helped me a lot, they have a list of trusted people which provides accommodation. I got more than 100 contact numbers from there but apart from that there are a lot of other websites such as downfieldproperty and Gumtree.

Scholarship

  • As I am an Asian student so I got a scholarship of 6500 GBP. My batch mates might have gotten the scholarship, but I am not sure about it. I think most Asian students might have gotten the scholarship and every year almost 70-80% of students get the scholarship from the university the typical amount must be 4000 to 7000 GBP but I am not sure about it.

  • My accommodation is off campus, it's a very good student accommodation named Lyon Street Terrace. The monthly rent is about 139 pounds and the facilities are well organized. Here is a large backyard where students can chill and have a get-together, also accommodation people organise small parties as well. I highly recommend this accommodation to future students Rooms are well and spacious.

Scholarship

I got Global Excellence Scholarship which is 5000 GBP from my tuition fees and it is really important that I got it, because when tuition fees are very high, the such scholarship will help to reduce the load on your shoulders. I just had to submit a specific essay for the scholarship and I can tell you it is well worth the work.

The University of Dundee is one of the top universities to learn Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Science, etc due to its multi-million-pound facilities and supportive and encouraging faculty. Dundee is also the sunniest city in Scotland, so if you spend enough time outside you won't be running short of that precious Vitamin D.
