University of Hertfordshire admissions open three intakes each year, with September as the primary window. Indian applicants need Class XII at 60 to 70 percent for undergraduate courses. Postgraduate courses require a Bachelor’s degree at 55 to 65 percent, equivalent to a UK second-class honours.

  • Next live deadline: September 2026 postgraduate rolling window closes by mid-August 2026 for visa processing.
  • Base tuition £14,750 to £26,660 yearly (₹18.85 to ₹34.07 Lakhs), £50 UG application fee (₹6,391).

  • Acceptance rate estimated at around 70%, no official figure published by the university.

Popular Indian-student picks include MSc Computer Science, MSc Data Science and Analytics, and the one-year MBA. Alumni cite responsive admissions and strong industry links as reasons Indian students pick the University of Hertfordshire for postgraduate study.

Status: Closing Soon. The primary September 2026 intake accepts postgraduate applications on a rolling basis through mid-August 2026, with no application fee charged. Undergraduate September 2026 places now run via UCAS Clearing (the UK’s post-deadline undergraduate matching route) until early September 2026. January 2027 postgraduate applications are also open on a rolling basis.

University of Hertfordshire Eligibility for Indian Applicants

University of Hertfordshire admits Indian applicants under two academic tracks. Undergraduate entry needs Class XII with 60 to 70 percent, higher for competitive courses. Postgraduate entry needs a Bachelor’s degree at 55 to 65 percent, roughly equivalent to a UK 2:1 (upper second-class honours). English proficiency is required for both routes, with waivers available for applicants who studied in an English-medium school.

  • UG academic floor: Class XII at 60 percent, higher for competitive courses.
  • UG STEM prerequisite: Class XII Mathematics for engineering and computing.
  • PG standard entry: Bachelor’s at 55 percent, roughly UK 2:2 (lower second).

  • Work experience: two to three years for MBA and executive tracks.

Accepted English proficiency tests and institution-wide minimums are below. Individual programs may set a higher floor, so confirm on the course page.

University of Hertfordshire IELTS Waiver Options for Indian Students

Indian applicants can qualify for an English-test waiver at Herts in three ways.

  • MOI (medium of instruction): Class XII English 65% (UG) or 70% (PG) from English-medium boards.
  • Prior English-taught degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s completed in English within the past five years.
  • UK-recognized nationality: Applicants from UK Visas and Immigration’s majority English-speaking country list.

Herts applies the waiver automatically when the transcript confirms English medium. If unclear, request a formal medium of instruction letter from your Class XII school or Bachelor’s institution.

University of Hertfordshire MBA Admissions for Indian Applicants

University of Hertfordshire’s MBA is a one-year full-time program at Hertfordshire Business School. It targets mid-career Indian professionals with 2 to 3 years of managerial or team-lead experience. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the September and January intakes, with no separate application fee for postgraduate submissions.

University of Hertfordshire MBA Fees and Rounds

Base tuition for the University of Hertfordshire MBA sits at approximately £17,450 (₹22.30 Lakhs) for the 2026-27 intake. Admissions run on a rolling basis without fixed rounds. Indian applicants targeting September 2026 should submit by mid-August 2026 for CAS and visa timing. January 2027 applicants should apply by end October 2026 to secure a seat. Merit-linked scholarship consideration is automatic on application.

University of Hertfordshire MBA Work Experience Requirements

Herts asks MBA candidates for 2 to 3 years of full-time work experience after their Bachelor’s. The requirement is flexible for candidates with strong leadership evidence or a first-class honours background. GMAT and GRE scores are not required. Interviews are typically not required for the standard MBA route, though shortlisted candidates may be contacted for a brief video discussion with the admissions team.

Insider note: Herts’ MBA cohort is small and internationally diverse. Indian applicants who cite specific project impact, such as revenue growth or team-lead outcomes, stand out over generic leadership claims.

University of Hertfordshire PhD Admissions for Indian Applicants

University of Hertfordshire offers PhD study across science, engineering, business, humanities, and health. Full-time PhDs run 3 to 4 years and normally require a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. Applications are accepted year-round via a research-proposal route matched to a supervisor.

University of Hertfordshire PhD Funding for Indian Students

UH Studentships cover full tuition plus a stipend aligned with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) minimum rates for the funded year. Not all research groups have open studentships. Self-funded routes remain available to Indian applicants. Tuition for international PhD students is approximately £18,890 (₹24.14 Lakhs) per year for 2026-27 lab-based programs. External and country-specific awards are listed on the funding options for Indian students page.

University of Hertfordshire PhD Application Steps

Herts uses a two-stage PhD entry: informal supervisor contact followed by formal application. The steps below reflect the typical Indian applicant path.

  1. Identify a supervisor via Herts research group pages whose interests match yours.
  2. Email the supervisor with a two-page research proposal, CV, and transcripts.
  3. Submit the formal PhD application via the Herts online portal once supervisor interest is confirmed.
  4. Attach your English test score, academic references, and any published work.
  5. Wait 6 to 8 weeks for the formal committee decision.

Planning note: Herts’ international-fee PhD tuition is due each year. Indian self-funders should budget for three years plus the annual Immigration Health Surcharge before starting.

University of Hertfordshire Application Process and Decision Timeline

The University of Hertfordshire keeps the application process simple. Postgraduate and PhD applicants apply directly through the Herts online portal. Undergraduate applicants apply through UCAS. Postgraduate decisions typically take four to six weeks after a complete submission.

  1. Confirm eligibility: check Class XII or Bachelor’s threshold, subject fit, and English score for your course.
  2. Choose intake: September (primary), January, or May if your course offers it.
  3. Prepare documents: transcripts, degree certificate, English score, statement of purpose, reference letters, CV, passport.
  4. Submit PG or PhD application: via the Herts online portal, no application fee charged.
  5. Submit UG application: via UCAS with a £50 (₹6,391) application fee.
  6. Track decision: offers arrive within 4 to 6 weeks of a complete PG submission.
  7. Accept offer: pay the £5,000 (₹6.39 Lakhs) tuition deposit for visa-route students.
  8. Get CAS: after the deposit clears, Herts issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies for the visa.
  9. Apply for the UK Student visa: up to six months before your course start date.

Herts issues both conditional and unconditional offers. Conditional offers list pending items such as final transcript, English score, or reference. Once conditions are met, an unconditional offer follows. Applicants have four weeks to accept the offer and pay the deposit. Deferral to the next intake is possible for genuine reasons such as visa delay or family emergency.

University of Hertfordshire Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Indian applicants to the University of Hertfordshire submit the same core document set for PG and PhD, with UG requiring UCAS-formatted references instead of standalone reference letters. Certified transcripts, degree certificate scans, and the passport bio-page form the non-negotiable base. Additional items depend on the course type and intake.

  • Passport bio-page with at least 18 months of validity.
  • Class XII marksheet and passing certificate for undergraduate applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and semester-wise transcripts for PG and PhD.
  • Master’s certificate and transcripts for PhD applicants.
  • English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo) if not exempt.
  • Statement of purpose tailored to the specific course.
  • Two reference letters from academic supervisors, or one academic plus one employer.
  • Updated CV covering education, internships, and any work experience.
  • Work experience letters for MBA and executive-track applicants.
  • Portfolio for art, design, animation, and creative arts programs.
  • Passport-size photograph in UK Home Office format.
  • Financial proof covering first-year tuition plus 9 months of living costs for the visa stage.

University of Hertfordshire Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

The University of Hertfordshire does not publish an official acceptance rate. Independent estimates place it at around 70 percent. This reflects the modern-university profile of admitting most applicants who meet the stated Class XII and Bachelor’s floors. Indian applicants with a well-matched programme choice and clean transcripts typically receive conditional offers within four to six weeks.

University of Hertfordshire Selection Approach for Indian Applicants

Herts uses an access-oriented model, which means the admissions team admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English requirements. The final decision weighs three inputs: the academic transcript, the English test result, and the statement of purpose. Work experience is weighted for MBA and select professional programs. Portfolio quality drives creative-arts decisions more than the academic average.

University of Hertfordshire Course-Level Selectivity

Selectivity varies by course rather than by school. MSc Data Science and Analytics, MSc Cyber Security, and the MBA see the highest Indian-applicant demand. These courses can move closer to a 50 to 60 percent offer rate in busy months. Less-competitive courses in humanities and general management see much higher rates.

Applicants targeting popular STEM programs should aim for a Bachelor’s percentage above the stated floor and submit early in the cycle. See the QS ranking band page for ranking context.

Insider note: Application timing matters at Herts. Indian PG applicants applying within a month of intake opening see faster offers and better halls of residence allocation.

UK Student Visa for University of Hertfordshire Applicants

Indian applicants to the University of Hertfordshire apply for the UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4 General) after receiving a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the university. Applications open up to six months before the course start date and take about 3 weeks to decide from Delhi or Mumbai VFS centres. Financial proof must cover first-year tuition plus 9 months of living costs. Herts assumes £1,334 (₹1.70 Lakhs) per month outside London, held in a bank account for at least 28 days before submission.

Costs beyond tuition include the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) at £776 (₹0.99 Lakhs) per year, which grants NHS access for the full visa period. The visa fee itself is approximately £524 (₹66,993). After arrival, students register with the university within 5 working days and enrol in-person to activate their CAS. Post-study, Herts graduates qualify for the UK Graduate Route, a 2-year work visa for Bachelor’s and Master’s holders, 3 years for PhD.

2026 update: The UK Student visa application fee rose to £524 from January 2026, and the Immigration Health Surcharge stays at £776 per year for students. Confirm both figures at gov.uk before applying.

Tips for University of Hertfordshire Admissions

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at the University of Hertfordshire across recent September and January intakes.

  • Apply early in the intake window for hall bookings and a 6-week visa buffer.
  • Use MOI evidence over an IELTS test if your Class XII was fully English-medium.
  • Match your Bachelor’s specialisation to the MSc target: computing MSc needs a CS-cognate degree.
  • Draft a 500-word SOP naming two Herts modules or research groups relevant to your goal.
  • Include quantified project impact in the CV for MBA and MSc applicants.
  • Chancellor’s Scholarship £500 to £4,000 (₹0.64 to ₹5.11 Lakhs) is automatic, no separate application.
  • Pay the £5,000 (₹6.39 Lakhs) deposit right after an unconditional offer to lock CAS.

University of Hertfordshire Admissions Checklist

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete over the 4 to 6 months before the University of Hertfordshire’s target intake.

  • Six months out: shortlist 2 to 3 Herts courses and confirm eligibility per course.
  • Five months out: book IELTS or arrange an MOI letter if using the waiver.
  • Four months out: request transcripts and reference letters from your college.
  • Three months out: draft SOP and submit via the Herts portal or UCAS.
  • Two months out: accept the offer, pay the £5,000 deposit, and request CAS.
  • Six weeks out: file the UK Student visa with financial proof and IHS payment.
  • Two weeks out: book flight, arrange accommodation, and complete pre-arrival paperwork.

University of Hertfordshire admissions favour early Indian applicants who match programme prerequisites and use the MOI waiver when available. The September 2026 primary intake still accepts postgraduate applications on a rolling basis, with no application fee for PG or PhD tracks.

Ques. Can I apply to the University of Hertfordshire MBA without work experience?

Ans. No. The MBA expects 2 to 3 years of full-time work experience after your Bachelor’s. The requirement is flexible for candidates with strong academic performance or documented leadership evidence, but a zero-experience application is not usually accepted.

Ques. What is the tuition deposit for international students at the University of Hertfordshire?

Ans. A £5,000 (₹6.39 Lakhs) tuition deposit is required for all international students who need a UK Student visa. The deposit is deducted from the first-year tuition and is refundable only if the visa is refused with genuine documentation.

Ans. The Chancellor’s International Scholarship ranges from £500 to £4,000 (₹0.64 to ₹5.11 Lakhs) for the September 2026 intake. It is awarded automatically based on your application form, with no separate scholarship application required from Indian candidates.

Ques. Is a UK 2:1 the same as an Indian Bachelor’s percentage?

Ans. Roughly yes. UK 2:2 (lower second) maps to around 50 to 55 percent Indian aggregate. UK 2:1 (upper second) maps to around 60 to 65 percent. Herts uses this equivalence when setting programme-level thresholds for Indian applicants.

Ques. How do I apply for a PhD at the University of Hertfordshire?

Ans. First identify a supervisor through the Herts research pages and share your CV and a two-page research proposal by email. If the supervisor confirms interest, submit the formal application through the online portal. Formal decisions arrive within 6 to 8 weeks.

Ques. When should I start the UK Student visa application after receiving CAS?

Ans. Start the UK Student visa application immediately after CAS arrives, ideally at least 6 weeks before your course start date. Standard processing from India takes about 3 weeks, and priority routes can shorten that further.

Scholarship

  • Yes, there are a few scholarships available, mostly determined by entrance exam scores and academic achievement. During admission, certain entrance-based scholarships are automatically taken into account. Additionally, students who perform very well during the course are given internal rewards. Students should, however, arrange their expenses appropriately and not rely solely on scholarships due to the intense competition.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I did receive some scholarship that was worth 1000 pounds. This scholarship was from the university side. I didn’t apply for any other scholarship that is from any other source but there are some options that literally make the education fully funded by them.
  • There are some criteria that need to be fulfilled to avail that for which I was not eligible. The university scholarship is given to every student who pays the fee on time.

Scholarship

  • Yes, in this university we have got the scholarship, this scholarship is given by University of Hertfordshire itself.
  • Some students had got tri- year and some have got only a year. As I had got £1300 scholarship which is very much helpful for me with my tuition fees workout.
  • Nevertheless, not all the students got it as far as I know, because to those people to whom I met some of them have got and some haven’t.

Overview

Firstly! I applied for admission considering the specialized program and location of the University. I got admission without any delay. Alongside the University offered an early deposit tuition fee discount. I have wasted no time and paid my initial deposit. I proceeded further to the next steps, every step was smooth, to be honest. My overall experience at the university so far has been somewhat elevated compared to my previous experiences in the UG. I have chosen to apply to this university for different reasons. Firstly the advanced learning, depth of research techniques and industry-oriented training. The knowledge and skills needed to pursue a successful career are the main factor in this process. I could share more thoughts on my experiences when I am graduating next year.
