Loughborough University Scholarships for UG Students
Loughborough runs one central undergraduate award for international applicants, plus a performance track for national-squad athletes. Neither route needs a separate application form in most cases.
| Scholarship | Value | Eligibility | Deadline | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Loughborough International Scholarship (UG) | 25% first-year tuition, capped at £6,425 (INR 8.28 Lakhs) | Self-funded international applicant, Loughborough set as UCAS firm choice, no other Loughborough award received | Rolling with UCAS; tentative January 14, 2027 for 2027 entry | Automatic on admission |
| Loughborough Sport Scholarship | Up to £5,000 (INR 6.44 Lakhs) plus training access and physiotherapy support | National squad athletes in specified sports at UG or PG level | Rolling application through Loughborough Sport | Separate application through Loughborough Sport |
The tuition waiver applies to the first year only. An Indian student on a three-year BEng saves £6,425 (INR 8.28 Lakhs) against a total three-year outlay near £81,000 (INR 104.36 Lakhs).
Best-fit programmes for the auto-award include BEng Aeronautical Engineering, BEng Mechanical Engineering, BSc Computer Science and BSc Business Economics with Finance. Applicants must lock Loughborough as their UCAS firm choice and meet all conditions on the offer letter.
For the current UG intake calendar and course list, see the Loughborough University overview before choosing UCAS firm.
Loughborough University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
Postgraduate funding at Loughborough runs across five main awards. Two of them stack for first-class Indian graduates returning to Loughborough for a master’s.
| Scholarship | Value | Eligibility | Deadline | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Excellence Scholarship | £6,000 (INR 7.73 Lakhs) for September 2026 start; 20% off tuition for January 2026 start | First-class UG or international equivalent, self-funded, no other Loughborough award except Alumni Bursary | Rolling with admission; tentative July 31, 2026 for September 2026 intake | Automatic on admission |
| Alumni Bursary | 10% off tuition, roughly £2,900 (INR 3.74 Lakhs) on a £29,000 course | Loughborough graduate or holder of a Loughborough-validated degree, self-funded, PG taught programme | Automatic on enrolment | Automatic on admission |
| Business School Scholarship | Up to £3,000 (INR 3.87 Lakhs) off tuition | Applicants holding a Business School PG taught offer with upper second-class UG or higher | Rolling with admission for September 2026 intake | Automatic on admission |
| Future Leaders Scholarship | £10,000 (INR 12.88 Lakhs) off tuition | International PG taught applicants across selected programmes; leadership evidence required in personal statement | Tentative April 30, 2026 for September 2026 intake | Separate scholarship form after receiving the PG offer |
| Global Excellence Scholarship (London campus) | 90% off tuition, roughly £22,500 (INR 28.99 Lakhs) on a £25,000 London-campus MSc | International PG taught applicant at Loughborough London, first-class UG preferred | Tentative July 15, 2026 for September 2026 intake | Separate scholarship form after PG offer |
The Excellence Scholarship does not cover Creative Arts, Design, Sport / Exercise / Health Sciences, MBA or UK-based MArch programmes. Indian applicants targeting MSc Business Analytics, MSc Artificial Intelligence or MSc Automotive Engineering sit inside the eligible list.
Reddit Insight: Indian applicants report the Excellence Scholarship plus Alumni Bursary stack is the standard route for returning Loughborough graduates. The combined discount lands near £8,900 (INR 11.47 Lakhs) off a typical MSc, higher than any single automatic award.
For admissions cut-off dates and IELTS thresholds tied to these awards, see the Loughborough University admissions page.
India-Specific Scholarships at Loughborough University
Loughborough does not run an India-only tuition waiver. It does run one full-tuition award for which India sits on the eligible-nationality list.
| Scholarship | Value | Eligibility | Deadline | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Global Impact Scholarship | 100% of tuition for one year, roughly £29,000 (INR 37.36 Lakhs) on a typical MSc | India on eligible-nationality list, first-class UG or equivalent, conditional or unconditional PG offer, home-country impact plan | Tentative May 6, 2027 for the 2027/28 cycle; PG offer must be in place by mid-April 2027 | Separate scholarship form once the PG offer is confirmed |
The scholarship covers tuition only. Recipients fund living costs, travel and visa fees independently. Selection is a small-panel review weighted on the essay describing how the master’s translates to work in India after graduation.
The Global Impact panel weighs the following elements when shortlisting Indian applicants:
The GREAT Scholarship worth £10,000 (INR 12.88 Lakhs) is offered at several UK universities for Indian applicants. Loughborough’s 2026/27 GREAT round listed only Kenya and Turkey on its eligible-passport list, so Indian applicants targeting GREAT should pick a UK university where India is included.
Priority courses for Indian Global Impact applicants include MSc Business Analytics, MSc Artificial Intelligence and MSc Sport Management, all inside the eligibility net. Applicants outside the first-class band should redirect effort to the Excellence Scholarship or Chevening rather than compete for Global Impact.
Loughborough University PhD Scholarships
Loughborough offers four PhD funding routes accessible to Indian applicants. Full stipends match the UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) benchmark of £21,805 per year.
| Scholarship | Value | Eligibility | Deadline | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sanctuary PhD Scholarship | 100% tuition plus £21,805 (INR 28.09 Lakhs) annual stipend for 3 years | At-risk scholar status, conditional or unconditional PhD offer from Loughborough | June 22, 2026 for October 2026, February 2027 or July 2027 starts | Separate form plus a 550-word personal statement after the PhD offer |
| Commonwealth PhD Scholarship | Full tuition plus monthly stipend plus return airfare for 3 years | Indian resident, upper second-class UG or higher, cannot self-fund UK study | October 20, 2026 tentative, 2027/28 intake through CSC Central | Nomination through an Indian nominating agency then CSC Central |
| Commonwealth Split-Site PhD | 100% tuition for 12 months at Loughborough | Indian PhD student registered at a home-country institution | October 20, 2026 tentative for the 2027/28 split-site cohort | Nomination through the Indian institution then CSC Central |
| Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellowship | Up to $50,000 (INR 47.72 Lakhs) per year | Indian woman pursuing a STEM PhD, commitment to teach or research in India | Tentative November 15, 2026 for 2027 cohort | Separate application through Schlumberger Foundation portal |
Departmental studentships in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Mechanical Engineering and the Wolfson School typically pay tuition plus a £20,780 (INR 26.77 Lakhs) tax-free stipend. These attach to a supervisor project, so contact potential supervisors before the department deadline.
Loughborough sits at QS #1 for Sports-related subjects and #62 for Mechanical Engineering in 2026. Both subject-level positions strengthen the case for Indian PhD candidates targeting either school through Commonwealth or Schlumberger routes.
External Government Scholarships
Indian applicants layer external scholarships on top of Loughborough offers. Five routes carry the strongest track record for Loughborough master’s admits from India.
| Scholarship | Value | Eligibility | Deadline | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chevening Scholarship (UK Government) | Full tuition (capped at £22,000 or INR 28.34 Lakhs for MBA), monthly stipend, return airfare, arrival allowance | Indian citizen, 2,800 hours of post-UG work experience, commitment to return to India for 2 years | October 6, 2026 (2027/28 cycle opens August 4, 2026) | Chevening online portal, up to 3 UK course choices |

| KC Mahindra Scholarship for PG Studies Abroad | Up to INR 10 Lakhs (grant portion) with additional interest-free loan | Indian citizen with confirmed overseas PG offer and demonstrable financial need | March 31, 2027 tentative window for 2027 entry | KC Mahindra Education Trust online application |
| National Overseas Scholarship (Government of India) | Full tuition plus £15,400 (INR 19.84 Lakhs) annual maintenance plus one-way airfare plus contingency grant | SC, ST, denotified nomadic, artisan or landless labour category with family income under INR 8 Lakhs | Tentative March 31, 2027 for the 2027 cohort | Ministry of Social Justice online portal |
Reddit Insight: Chevening candidates targeting Loughborough consistently say the MSc Business Analytics and MSc Sport Management essays land stronger. Loughborough’s subject-level rankings (#1 QS Sports-related, #62 QS Mechanical Engineering in 2026) give the university-choice essay measurable weight.
Chevening does not stack with Loughborough tuition awards, since Chevening pays tuition directly to the university. The Excellence Scholarship and Alumni Bursary auto-cancel once Chevening confirms the tuition transfer.

Loughborough University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian student can secure at Loughborough?
Ans. The Global Impact Scholarship at 100% tuition (roughly INR 37.36 Lakhs on a typical MSc) is the highest confirmed award for an Indian master’s applicant. If Global Impact does not land, a returning Loughborough graduate can stack the Excellence Scholarship (£6,000) with the Alumni Bursary (10%). The combo lands near INR 11.47 Lakhs off a typical MSc.
Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for Loughborough scholarships?
Ans. Submit the master’s programme application by mid-April 2027 to stay eligible for the May 6, 2027 Global Impact deadline. Chevening opens August 4, 2026 and closes October 6, 2026, so submit that in parallel. The Excellence Scholarship and Alumni Bursary are automatic on admission with no separate deadline.
Ques. Do I need to apply separately for Loughborough scholarships?
Ans. Only the Global Impact Scholarship, Future Leaders Scholarship, London Global Excellence Scholarship and Sanctuary PhD Scholarship need a separate form after the offer arrives. The Excellence Scholarship, Business School Scholarship and Alumni Bursary trigger automatically based on your admission application and final degree result.
Ques. What UG marks do Loughborough scholarships require for Indian applicants?
Ans. The Excellence Scholarship and Global Impact Scholarship require a first-class UG or Indian equivalent (typically 65% at NIRF-ranked institutions or 70% at others). The Business School Scholarship needs upper second-class or higher. The Alumni Bursary has no marks threshold and covers any Loughborough graduate.
Ques. How selective is the Global Impact Scholarship for Indian applicants?
Ans. The Global Impact Scholarship is Loughborough’s most competitive award and covers 100% tuition for one year. Recipients hold a first-class UG, a confirmed PG offer by mid-April and a written home-country impact plan. Selection runs through a senior-staff panel review with no interview round for shortlisted candidates.
Ques. Does the scholarship cover living costs in Loughborough?
Ans. Loughborough tuition scholarships do not cover living costs. Budget INR 10 to 12 Lakhs per year for accommodation, food and travel in Loughborough town. Chevening pays a monthly living allowance on top of tuition, and Commonwealth adds £1,712 (INR 2.21 Lakhs) per month plus a study travel grant.

- I liked the new experience in Loughborough
- The teaching methods, syllabus covered was in line with the latest trend
- Entirely coursework based - no exams but had to learn more for each coursework which was very exciting
Dislikes
- The deadlines for each coursework was so short - so often two or more courseworks overlap and have to do more work at the same time
- I found my accommodation through the university, John Phillips. I paid the fees in terms, and it cost around Rs. 4,00,000 for 3 months.
- It was an ensuite room with a common kitchen - communal cleaning happened weekly, so mostly we had to clean things ourselves and manage the entire floor with other floormates
Likes
- Excellent syllabus, fully updated knowledge and data from extremely accomplished faculty and experts.
- Campus and facilities are state of the art, well funded and well established in terms of ECA, sporting facilities, etc.
Dislikes
- Some courses do not come with placement options, ultimately making the entire course feel under valued due to having to travel back to home countries from not being able to find work.
- Found accommodation through various sites offering the same in the town of Loughborough, the university offered on-campus accommodation, but at a slightly greater cost per week. My account. was off-campus, paying 128 GBP per week.

One year of new opportunities, meeting people from different backgrounds, new learnings and a very different teaching experience. I learnt a lot at Loughborough not only about my course but also about my field and what the future would look like. Even if I was struggling with mental health issues at times there were always resources available for me to speak to people and get the help I needed

- Loughborough University is student friendly university. There is always someone to help you out whether you need assistance in academics, sports activities/games, personal health issues, mental health and well-being etc. You would love student life in loughborough university. If you found a good friends gang, then think that you are in heaven. Also in academics they all have well-equipped labs. Since my course is practical oriented, uni provided all sort of practical exposures to learn my course thoroughly.
- The facilites, freedom for students, academic exposure, security at night, helpful staffs, faculties, footaball courts, basketball courts, apple trees, elite accomodation and restaurants and for guests and students etc. On the whole you feel the heaven.
Dislikes
- If the university was situated a slighly closer to town, it would be easier for students to attend and enjoy events happening in town. Also it would be easy for attending part-time work since the part-tiem job opportunities is low in campus.
Scholarship
Yes, 20% on my tuition fees (Based on my academic track record)
I loved my student life. Since I had my best time at Loughborough University. As I had my own friends gang, I hanged out with them frequently. Also, the place I stayed (Falkner Eggington accommodation) had sweet friends who were kind and friendly. We became close within few weeks. As they were from my state.

- Ratings, country, city, accommodation options, etc. were a few of the factors that caused me to choose the uni.
- I really liked the multiple societies and the whole environment is very inclusive. It is a very nice university for sports and research. It has multiple courts for all of the sports
Dislikes
- The life over there can get v lonely. It is not in a proper city, it's a small town, and hence most things close by 6pm and hence it becomes almost like a ghost town.

It was a very nice opportunity and definitely learned a lot, but it's not perfect and you need to compromise in a lot of things
Scholarship
Yes, I got 20% scholarship over my tuition fees due to undergrad percentage.
The factors that I considered were: Ranking, Modules, Fees, University's Career Network and Diversity.
Scholarship
I have no idea how to avail a scholarship. But the coordinators there are very prompt and helpful and approachable. If anyone needs help they can directly drop an email to them and they would definitely help.
I went for an exchange program for 1 term (3 months) at Loughborough University, UK. 1. It has the largest campus in the whole of Europe, this is due to its focus on sports. It has multiple grounds. 2. It has the best sports management curriculum in the world. 3. The quality of the grounds is so good that the England International cricket team sometimes practices here. 4. The faculty is really friendly and the student Union organizes a lot of events.
