MANUU MA FAQs
Ques. Is Urdu mandatory for admission to MA Arabic at MANUU? I studied in an English-medium school but have some Urdu knowledge.
Ans. Yes, Urdu as a subject, language, or medium of instruction at 10th, 12th, or graduation level is a mandatory eligibility condition for all programmes at MANUU, including MA Arabic. If you studied in an English-medium school but had Urdu as a language subject at any of these levels, you are eligible. Students from madrasa backgrounds with Urdu as the medium of instruction in MANUU-approved courses are also eligible. If you do not have Urdu at any level, you would not meet the basic eligibility criteria for this programme.
Ques. What are the career options after completing MA Arabic from MANUU? Is it only for teaching?
Ans. MA Arabic from MANUU opens up a wide range of career opportunities beyond teaching. Graduates can work as Arabic translators and interpreters for government bodies, courts, embassies, and international organizations. There is strong demand in Gulf countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait) for Arabic-proficient professionals in business, media, and diplomacy. Several MANUU Arabic alumni have been placed in multinational companies like Amazon, Facebook, and Google in roles involving Arabic language content moderation, translation, and customer support. Academic careers (lectureship, UGC NET/JRF) and research (PhD) are also popular paths. Clearing UGC NET in Arabic after MA opens doors to assistant professor positions across India.
Ques. Is the MA Arabic programme at MANUU taught in Urdu or Arabic? Will I be able to follow if my Arabic is basic?
Ans. The medium of instruction at MANUU is Urdu, not Arabic. The MA Arabic programme teaches Arabic language and literature through Urdu as the medium. So, classroom lectures, study materials, and examinations are primarily in Urdu. Students are expected to have a working knowledge of Arabic (especially those from madrasa backgrounds), but the programme is designed to build proficiency progressively. Students with basic Arabic but strong Urdu can manage the course, though prior exposure to Arabic (through madrasa or diploma courses) is definitely an advantage.
Ques. Can I get hostel accommodation at MANUU for MA Arabic? Is it guaranteed?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at MANUU is available but not guaranteed, as it is subject to availability. MANUU has separate boys' and girls' hostels on the Hyderabad campus (Prem Chand Hostel, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan Hostel, Shibli Nomani Hostel, Mohammad Ali Jauhar Hostel for boys; Gulzar Girls Hostel for girls). Hostel fee is approximately Rs. 7,100 to Rs. 8,600 per year, which is very affordable. Students are advised to apply for hostel accommodation immediately after admission confirmation, as seats are limited. Students at the Lucknow and Budgam campuses should check hostel availability at those respective campuses.
Ques. Is there any entrance test for MA Arabic at MANUU, or is it purely merit-based?
Ans. MA Arabic at MANUU is a purely merit-based programme. There is no entrance test (ET) required. Admission is based on the aggregate marks in your qualifying Bachelor's degree. CUET PG is also not required for this programme. You simply need to apply online, meet the eligibility criteria (45% in graduation + Urdu at any level), and if your marks are competitive enough, you will be shortlisted for certificate verification and fee payment. This makes the admission process straightforward compared to many other universities.
Ques. What is the scope of UGC NET in Arabic, and how does MANUU's MA Arabic programme prepare students for it?
Ans. UGC NET in Arabic is conducted by NTA and qualifying it makes you eligible for Assistant Professor positions and JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) in Arabic across Indian universities and colleges. MANUU's MA Arabic curriculum covers Classical Arabic, Modern Arabic Literature, Translation Studies, and Research Methodology, which aligns well with the UGC NET Arabic syllabus. Several MANUU Arabic alumni have successfully cleared UGC NET and gone on to teach in universities and colleges. The university also has a strong research culture, and students are encouraged to pursue PhD after MA, for which MANUU offers a dedicated PhD programme in Arabic with UGC Non-NET Fellowship support.
