MANUU Ph.D. (Education) FAQs
Ques. Is Urdu medium mandatory for the Ph.D. (Education) programme at MANUU? Can I write my thesis in English?
Ans. The medium of instruction at MANUU is Urdu, and the Ph.D. (Education) programme is primarily conducted in Urdu. However, research scholars can write their thesis in either Urdu or English, as per UGC guidelines. The coursework, seminars, and interactions with supervisors are largely in Urdu. If you do not have formal proof of Urdu proficiency (e.g., Urdu as a subject in 10th/12th), you can still be admitted conditionally, but you must pass a 4-credit Certificate Course in Urdu offered by the university before submitting your thesis.
Ques. I have qualified UGC-NET but not JRF. Do I still need to appear in the RAT?
Ans. Yes, qualifying UGC-NET (without JRF) does not exempt you from the Research Admission Test (RAT). Only candidates who have qualified for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) through UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, or equivalent national-level tests are exempted from the written RAT and are directly called for the interview. NET-qualified (non-JRF) candidates must appear in the RAT and score at least 50% to be shortlisted for the interview round.
Ques. What is the coursework structure for Ph.D. (Education) at MANUU, and how long does it last?
Ans. As per UGC PhD Regulations and NEP 2020, all Ph.D. scholars at MANUU must complete mandatory coursework of at least one year (two semesters) before proceeding to research. The coursework typically covers Research Methodology, Review of Literature, and subject-specific advanced topics in Education. Scholars must pass the coursework examination to be eligible for thesis registration. The total minimum duration of the programme is 3 years, including coursework, and the maximum duration is generally 6 years.
Ques. Is the Ph.D. (Education) interview at MANUU conducted online or offline?
Ans. For the 2026-27 admission cycle, MANUU has confirmed that Ph.D. admission interviews will be conducted in online mode only. This is a significant convenience for outstation candidates. The interview evaluates your research aptitude, the feasibility of your proposed research topic, your writing skills in Urdu, and your overall academic background. Candidates are advised to prepare a brief research proposal (2-3 pages) before the interview, as the panel may ask you to present and defend your research idea.
Ques. Can working professionals apply for the full-time Ph.D. (Education) programme at MANUU?
Ans. The full-time Ph.D. (Education) programme requires regular attendance and active participation in coursework and research activities at the Hyderabad campus. Working professionals who cannot commit to full-time study should consider the Part-Time/Sponsored Self-Financing Ph.D. mode, which MANUU also offers. The part-time mode requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer, and a mandatory 6-month residency at the Hyderabad campus for coursework. The fee structure for part-time/sponsored mode is higher (approximately Rs. 22,000 per semester).
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing Ph.D. (Education) from MANUU?
Ans. A Ph.D. in Education from MANUU, a NAAC A+ accredited central university, opens doors to academic and research careers. Graduates are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor positions in colleges and universities (as per UGC norms, Ph.D. is mandatory for direct recruitment as Assistant Professor from 2021 onwards). Many MANUU Ph.D. Education alumni have secured positions in government schools, teacher training institutes, state education departments, NCERT, SCERT, and international organizations working in education. The Urdu-medium specialization also creates unique opportunities in Urdu-medium educational institutions, madrasas, and minority education bodies across India and abroad.
