BAU Admission Dates 2026

BAU admits UG students through the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (BCECE Agriculture) for the state quota (85%) and through ICAR AIEEA UG for the All-India quota (15%). PG and doctoral admissions are conducted through ICAR AIEEA PG. The 2026-27 UG admission cycle is concluded. PG admissions are ongoing with Round 1 allotment released on October 5, 2026, and further rounds expected in the coming weeks.

BAU Courses and Fees

BAU and its affiliated colleges offer programmes across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in agricultural sciences, veterinary science, dairy technology, molecular biology, and agribusiness management. All fees stated below are the total charges for the full programme duration, based on fee data for the 2026-27 session under the general category.

Hostel accommodation is available for male and female students at INR 1,400 per year, reflecting BAU’s status as a heavily state-subsidised institution. Additional charges such as examination fees and library charges are levied separately each semester.

BAU Admission Process

BAU’s admission process is examination-driven at all levels. For UG programmes, 85% of seats are filled through the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (BCECE Agriculture) conducted by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB). The remaining 15% All-India quota seats are filled through ICAR AIEEA UG, conducted by NTA on behalf of ICAR.

The minimum eligibility for BSc Agriculture and related 4-year UG programmes is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Agriculture from a recognised board, with at least 50% aggregate (45% for reserved categories). For BVSc and AH, Biology in 10+2 is mandatory as per Veterinary Council of India norms.

For MSc Agriculture and PhD programmes, admission is through ICAR AIEEA PG. MSc candidates must hold a BSc (Hons) Agriculture or equivalent with a minimum 60% aggregate (55% for reserved). PhD candidates must hold an MSc in the relevant agricultural discipline with a minimum 60%.

Seat allotment for both BCECE and ICAR AIEEA quotas is through centralised online counselling. Candidates must complete document verification and fee payment at the allotted college within the reporting deadline. Category-wise cut-offs for BSc Agriculture vary by specialisation and intake year and are published on the BCECEB and ICAR counselling portals after each round.

BAU Placements and Career Outcomes

As a government agricultural university, BAU graduates primarily enter public sector agriculture, ICAR research institutions, cooperative bodies, and agribusiness companies rather than through a structured campus placement drive.

BSc Agriculture graduates pursue posts as Agriculture Development Officers in Bihar’s state extension service, join ICAR research institutes, or enter input companies in the seed and fertiliser sectors. BVSc and AH graduates qualify for Bihar state veterinary services and central government veterinary officer posts. At the postgraduate level, MSc graduates frequently qualify for ICAR JRF and SRF positions at institutes such as ICAR-RCER (Patna). PhD graduates go on to academic and research appointments across agricultural universities and ICAR institutes.

Key employer sectors include state and central government agricultural departments, ICAR research institutes, NABARD, cooperative bodies such as IFFCO and KRIBHCO, agribusiness input companies, and food processing firms. MBA Agribusiness Management graduates from the Patna campus join agribusiness companies and cooperative dairies in procurement and supply chain roles.

BAU is consistently recognised in NIRF’s Agriculture and Allied Sectors category and holds NAAC accreditation across its constituent colleges.

BAU’s stable NIRF rank of 36 across two consecutive years reflects consistent performance in teaching, research, and outreach. The NAAC A grade (CGPA 3.08, June 2025) covers academic quality across all ten constituent colleges in the BAU system.

BAU Scholarships

BAU students can access a range of scholarship and financial assistance schemes through central government channels, state government programmes, and ICAR-sponsored fellowships.

• ICAR Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF): Awarded to MSc and PhD students who qualify in ICAR AIEEA PG at the JRF threshold. The JRF provides a monthly stipend to support full-time agricultural research. SRF is awarded to continuing doctoral students upon satisfactory progress review.
• Bihar Post-Matric Scholarship (SC/ST/OBC): The Bihar Government disburses post-matric scholarships for students from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Class categories enrolled in recognised Bihar state universities including BAU. BAU Campus and Infrastructure

The main campus of Bihar Agricultural University at Sabour, Bhagalpur, spans 75 acres on the alluvial Ganga plain. In continuous use since 1908, the campus retains original colonial-era academic buildings alongside modern laboratories and hostels added after 2010.

The Sabour campus is home to Bihar Agriculture College (established 1908), the College of Agricultural Biotechnology (established 2021), and the central university administrative offices. Key facilities on the main campus include:

Bihar Forestry College (Munger) and the College of Agricultural Engineering (Ara) are among the newer additions established in 2021 and 2022. The Sabour campus is in Bhagalpur district, connected by road and rail to Patna (200 km west) and Kolkata (460 km east).

BAU vs GBPUA&T Pantnagar vs OUAT Bhubaneswar

Candidates from Bihar often compare BAU with G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T), Pantnagar, and Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar, both of which accept Bihar students only through ICAR AIEEA.

For Bihar domicile students, BAU is the natural first choice with BCECE state quota access and highly subsidised fees. GBPUA&T Pantnagar offers a stronger national ranking but admits Bihar students only through the more competitive ICAR AIEEA All-India route. BAU’s network of ten colleges across Bihar gives it the widest in-state reach of the three.
