National Law University (NLU), Delhi was established in 2008 by Dr. Ranbir Singh with the objective of promoting ethical values with a view to promoting the rule of law and the objectives laid down in the Constitution of India.  NLU Delhi offers various courses like 5-year integrated course B.A. LL.B. program, 2-year Master course in LLM, PG Diploma as well as certificate and Diploma programs affiliated to UGC and Bar Council of India. University also offers a Ph.D. program in multiple specializations. 

Admission to these courses is based on the scores in AILET. There is a facility of a two-year/one-year bridge course based on an LL.B. Degree.

  • Candidates who aspire to take admission in B.A. LL.B. must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with not less than 50% marks.
  • The admission criteria for foreign nationals is securing at least 65% marks in the 10+2 examination of the system or equivalent.
  • Applicants to the LL.M course must score a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks by SC/ST/Persons with disability) in the LL.B. exam or equivalent degree.
  • Foreign nationals must score at least 55% marks in LL.B. degree recognized by Association of India Universities.
  • The assessment of the communication skills of foreign nationals will be based on written and spoken English performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.
  • The admission to LL.B and LL.M will be based on the AILET entrance followed by an interview.
  • Admission to the Ph.D. program shall be based on merit in the written test conducted by the University and qualifying exam.
  • Candidates who have qualified UGC Net/JRF/SLET and M.Phil. are exempted from sitting in a written test.

Eligibility:

Business and Commercial Laws: Practicing lawyers, company secretaries and chartered accountants and other related professionals can apply for the Business and Commercial Laws Certificate course offered by NLU, Delhi.

Insolvency and Bankruptcy: Law and Practice:

The minimum eligibility for applying for this certificate program is a graduate degree (in law or other field) from a recognized university. Students in the 4th and 5th year of 5 years integrated law course or in the final year of 3 years LLB degree can also apply.

Students with a degree certificate or its equivalent from any UGC-recognized University, Association of Indian Universities, CA, CS, ICWA, Open University/distance learning can apply. There shall be no restriction as to age, nationality, gender or employment status in the admission process.

Law and Practice of Arbitration: Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 System) or Equivalent Examination with 55% marks.

National Law University Delhi B.A. LLB (Hons) Admission 2021

Admission to the first year of 5-year B.A. LL.B. is made based on the merit in national level AILET entrance exam. Their admission will be based on prescribed academic qualification. There is no compulsion for foreign nationals to appear in the AILET exam.

NLU Delhi B.A. LLB Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidates who aspire to take admission in B.A. LL.B. must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with not less than 50% marks from a recognized organization.
  • Applicants who are appearing in the final examination of the qualifying exam may also apply for the admission given the condition that they produce the result card as proof of qualifying the exam at the time of admission.
  • The admission criteria for foreign nationals is securing at least 65% marks in the 10+2 examination of the system or equivalent.
  • Candidate must be less than 21 years in age on July 1st of the year of admission and the age limit for SC/ST is 23 years.

NLU Delhi B.A. LLB Selection Criteria

The selection of the candidate will be based on merit obtained in the AILET entrance exam. 

  • Candidates will have to score a minimum of 40% marks (30% marks for SC/ST candidates) in the AILET entrance exam to be eligible for admission.
  • The entrance examination fee is INR. 3000/- for general category, INR. 1000/- for SC/ST and person with a disability. 
  • There is no fee for SC/ST below poverty line candidates.
  • If there are two or more candidates secure equal marks, the merit will be prepared considering their 10+2 marks as well.
  • Foreign national applicants are exempted from appearing in AILET.
  • The admission fees for candidates from SAARC countries shall be 5,000 US dollars while it is 10,000 US dollars for candidates from other countries.
  • Selected candidates will be intimated by the college authority through official website or email, SMS, etc. and stipulated time will be provided to them for admission.

Exam Pattern (AILET)

  • Total Number of Questions: 150 MCQs
  • Total Marks: 150 Marks
  • Duration of Test: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • 0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • AILET will comprise of the following sections:

    • Logical Reasoning
    • Legal Aptitude

National Law University Delhi LLM Admission 2021

The institute offers a year-long LL.M course. Admission to the LLM course is based on the AILET entrance exam followed by an interview.

NLU Delhi Selection Criteria

LL.M

  • Candidates with having results awaited too can apply for a course on the condition of producing the proof of passing the exam at the time of admission.
  • Foreign nationals need not appear in the entrance exam.
  • OCI/PIO candidates can apply either under the FN category or under the category of Indian Students. In case, the candidates apply under the category of Indian Nationals, they must appear for AILET.

LL.M (Pro)

  • Candidates will be selected on the basis of percentage secured in their graduation. The merit cut-off list will accordingly be prepared.

National Law University Delhi P.G. Diploma Admission 2021

National Law University extends its courses to PG Diploma courses in various disciplines of Law. Candidates possessing any graduation degree are eligible to apply for the courses.

NLU Delhi Selection Criteria

Admission to PG Diploma is through AILET entrance exam conducted by the University.

National Law University Delhi Ph.D. Admission 2021

Admission to the Ph.D. program comprises of two stages. Selection will be done solely on the basis of merit.

Ph.D. Law Master’s Degree or M.Phil. with a minimum of 55% marks or its equivalent.

The university also offers Research in Law through a 2-year full-time or 3-year part-time Ph.D. program. 

NLU Delhi Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidates aspiring to enroll in the doctoral degree must hold a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% marks or its equivalent.
  • The applicants must possess a degree in law and a master’s degrees with M.Phil. (Social Science or Humanities) with at least 55% marks.
  • Candidates holding a position as a Judge in State High Court with 3 years’ experience or Judge of Supreme Court are also eligible for admission to the Ph.D. course.

NLU Delhi Selection Criteria

  • Admission to the Ph.D. program is based on a written test conducted by the University and merit in the qualifying exam.
  • Candidates who have qualified UGC Net/JRF/SLET and M.Phil. are exempted from appearing for a written test.
  • All qualified candidates will be required to submit a research proposal and the selected proposal will be needed to give a presentation on the topic before the Doctoral Committee.

Exam Pattern

  • Total Number of Questions: 100 MCQs of 1 mark each
  • Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to a deduction of 1 mark.
  • Candidates must secure a minimum of 50% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) in the written test to qualify for submission of the research proposal.

The application process is conducted online. To apply for admission, the candidates must visit the NLU official website and register for AILET

  • Go to the login page, click on the register to Apply Now link.
  • Read relevant details about the course and application from the home page links. 
  • Fill the details into the User Registration Form.
  • Confirm Registration details by clicking on the Confirm button.
  • Login using the credentials.
  • Proceed to fill the application form.
  • Click Submit to save the details.
  • Make a payment to successfully submit the form.

The fees can be paid via Debit/Credit card or Net Banking. The fee can also be paid via Cash Deposit.

Reservation Criteria

The 30% horizontal reserved seats will be filled by eligible female candidates. The unfilled seats will be filled by the general category if it remains vacant.

Ques. When will AILET 2021 take place?

Ans. NLU Delhi has released the notification for AILET 2021 Entrance Exam. The entrance test will be conducted on May 02, 2021. Candidates can start filling the applications for online admission in first week of January 2021. 

Ques. What is the admission fee for candidates from SAARC countries?

Ans. The admission fees for candidates from SAARC countries shall be 5,000 US dollars while it is 10,000 US dollars for candidates from other countries.

Ques. What is the procedure for submission of application fee via cash deposit?

Ans. The following procedure is to be followed while submitting the application fee via cash deposit:
  1. Select the “Cash Deposit at Post Office” option in the application form.
  2. Click proceed and then select your city & branch.
  3. Print the slip displayed on the screen.
  4. Deposit Cash along with the pay slip at branch chosen. 

For Cash Deposit at Post Office - Upon deposit, One part of the deposit slip is stamped and the receipt slip is returned to the candidate.

Ans. Yes, the institute provides its students with hostel accommodations. The fee for the same is around INR. 15,000/- per annum.
