✓ Opt for this if

  • You want a fully funded path to a research or academic career without paying tuition.
  • You hold a valid GATE or UGC-JRF score and prefer not to appear for CAT specifically for a doctoral program.
  • You are targeting faculty positions at tier-2 or newer B-schools where an IIM doctoral degree carries strong recognition.

✗ Skip if

  • Your target is a tenure-track faculty position at a top global university where IIM brand may not carry weight.
  • The monthly fellowship is insufficient and you need the higher stipend offered by older IIMs like Kozhikode or Lucknow.
  • You prefer a part-time doctoral route that allows continued industry employment during study.

IIM Rohtak Ph.D FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between DPM and FPM at IIM Rohtak?

Ans. The DPM at IIM Rohtak is the full-time residential doctoral program equivalent to what older IIMs call the FPM. Both lead to a research doctorate in management. IIM Rohtak also offers an EFPM for working professionals seeking a part-time research degree while remaining employed. If you are a full-time student pursuing a research career, the DPM is the right route.

Ques. What are the 6 research areas available under the DPM at IIM Rohtak?

Ans. The DPM offers six research areas: Economics and Public Policy, Finance and Accounting, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing and Strategy, and Operations Management and Quantitative Techniques. You may apply to up to two areas per cycle by paying a separate registration fee for each. Your research area is finalized during the interview based on your interest and faculty availability.

Ques. What financial support do DPM scholars receive at IIM Rohtak?

Ans. DPM scholars receive a tuition waiver, a merit fellowship of INR 10,000 per month in Year 2 and INR 15,000 per month in Year 3 and Year 4, and a contingency grant of INR 2,50,000 over 4 years for research and conference travel. Food charges are paid separately. Scholars with a valid UGC-JRF or CSIR-JRF may retain those external grants alongside the IIM Rohtak fellowship.

Ques. Can I work externally while pursuing the DPM at IIM Rohtak?

Ans. No. The DPM is a full-time residential program and scholars are not permitted to hold external employment. The fellowship and contingency grant are intended to cover living expenses so scholars can focus entirely on coursework and research. External consulting or part-time work is not allowed under program norms.

Ques. Is there a minimum CAT or GMAT score required to apply for the DPM at IIM Rohtak?

Ans. IIM Rohtak does not publish a fixed minimum percentile cutoff. Valid CAT, GMAT, GRE, GATE, or UGC-JRF scores are required and must not be older than 5 years at application. Shortlisting is based on a holistic review covering academic record, research statement, and exam score. A GMAT above 650 or a high-band GATE score is generally competitive for the shortlisting stage.

On-campus residents need to pay hostel fees and mess charges, which can vary depending on the choice of room. Basic stationery, laptop, accessories, and other supplies should also be considered. Souvenir, photoshoots, celebrations and fests involve additional fees. Finally, everyday living expenses like transportation, laundry, entertainment, and personal would require budgeting.
