Ques. How is XLRI compared to IIM B and C?

● Top Answer By Utsav Roychowdhury on 31 May 21

Ans. I have a friend who is an alumnus of XLRI and here is his insight. XLRI has a smaller campus and batch strength as compared to IIM B and C. The opportunities available for the top 30-40 students at IIM B and IIM C are not available for students at XLRI. And even if they do exits, it is in single digit. But if we compare the opportunities available for average students it is more or less the same for XLRI and IIM B, C.  It is quite obvious that you will enjoy certain perks at IIM B and C which you won’t have at XLRI. XLRI has a large alumni network and well-established brand value but it still has a long way to go to be compared to IIM B and C. In terms of academic rigor, XLRI will probably top.  Campus life at these three institutes is unique.  So, IIM A/B/C can give you a very good head start. It's not that you will be unable to accomplish it at all if you are at XLRI, but it will more difficult.Read more

Ques. Which one is better, IIM Calcutta or IIM Bangalore? Why?

● Top Answer By Swetha Pinisetti on 07 May 21

Ans. IIM Calcutta and IIM Bangalore are almost equal in opportunities, good faculty, and a good peer base. However, competition does matter. Students' opportunities are very much affected by where they stand vis-a-vis competition.  GPA does not matter as long as it is respectable, but once you cross below a certain point, it becomes important that you should figure a good place. The table shows a brief overview of both institutions: Particulars IIM Calcutta IIM Bangalore Highest Salary Rs. 80 lakhs Rs. 62 lakhs Average Salary Rs. 29 lakhs Rs. 26.18 lakhs Entrance Criteria CAT / GMAT CAT / GMAT / GRE Fees Rs. 23 lakhs Rs. 23 lakhs Below given is the comparison between IIM Calcutta and IIM Bangalore: IIM Calcutta's teaching methodology is real-world based whereas IIM Bangalore's teaching methodology involves PPTs Very theory-oriented where the professors teach everything in class. IIM Calcutta's professors are extremely knowledgeable and friendly whereas IIM Bangalore's professors are notably nice.  In IIM Calcutta the assessment is majorly end-term or mid-term based whereas in IIM Bangalore there is plenty of importance granted to assessments, submissions, papers, etc.  IIM Calcutta's question papers will be logical and based on intelligence and presence of mind. This is what matters most whereas IIM Bangalore's question papers are direct, and the professors expect you to study hard.  Students should know where they stand. If you think yourself to be a raw genius then you should opt for Calcutta, if you are an extremely hard worker then go for Bangalore.Read more

Ques. How should one get summer internship at IIM Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Khrisnandu Sahoo on 13 Apr 21

Ans. There are several ways for engineering and management students to get a summer internship at IIM Bangalore, which depends on the profile, qualifications, and proper communication with required authorities. The points listed below gives a brief overview of the procedure to get an internship at IIM Bangalore. You need to go through the website of IIM Bangalore and find your expertise and interest, like HR, marketing, finance, etc initially. There is a committee known as NS Raghavan Entrepreneurship Cell (NSRCEL) in IIM Bangalore, which provides internships to students. Other than that, candidates can work as an intern under a professor at IIM Bangalore. For getting a Research Internship, you first need to go through the respective working areas of the professors at IIM Bangalore and write an email to them about the request for an internship. This request e-mail must contain the candidate’s resume and a cover letter. For getting a Real-time Internship, you need to directly contact the NSRCEL at IIM Bangalore, where the committee will provide related works in some of the best start-ups across the country. This is based on the candidate’s field of interest, like Marketing, Growth Hacking, Strategy Making, Finance, etc. There are faculties and mentors whose communication channels are mentioned in the NSRCEL section of the website. Emails once sent should be re-forwarded to get them noticed by the authorities. Mails should be sent during the months of February and March, after which they usually finalize the internship offers. After March, internships with a standard stipend are not found vacant. These are some of the key highlights that you need to consider for securing an internship at IIM Bangalore.Read more

Ques. Comparing IIM Bangalore and Great Lakes, which would be a better option to go for an executive business analytics course?

● Top Answer By Sreeja Prasad on 13 Apr 21

Ans. If you are interested in a two-year MBA degree, Great Lakes program for Business Analytics is a good choice, considering several factors including placement, teaching style, faculties, and curriculum that assists in career growth. One of my friends attended the institute and speaks very highly of it.  The points below give a brief overview of the Business Analytics program in Great Lakes and its advantages. There are students with no prior knowledge in relevant subjects like statistics, coding, machine learning, etc, but still, get used to the curriculum in Business Analytics. There is a lot of diversity in the institute, with students from different branches in engineering- CSE, Electrical, Mechanical, etc, with several years of experience, and even some entrepreneurs into business. Even from the initial days, students are taught about professionalism, in a smooth learning environment. In a B-School, there are several kinds of individuals to interact with, some trying to make a different career stream, while some trying for a salary hike. Interacting with people from different mindsets has its own advantages. Every session covers one important topic and helps students build up their confidence, including topics like SQL stack, python programming, and Tableau dashboards. There are several eminent faculties from around the world, namely Mahesh Anand, Sayan De, etc. Some teachers are even faculties, professors, or Ph.D. holders from universities like Penn State and Stanford. The placement assistance team in Great Lakes helps a lot for grabbing an opportunity in placement. There are students who are even successful in getting a job before their project is over. Even freshers are offered 9+ LPA jobs from companies like Nielsen, Capgemini, etc. My friend was a little skeptical about the curriculum and placements of the institute. However, his experience with the degree was quite good. If you want a career in Business Analytics, Great Lakes is definitely a good choice.Read more

Admission :

The Common Admission Test is one of the largest entrance exams in the world and has been put in place as the qualifying examination for the top management schools of the country. It is conducted once a year in the month of November and the ones who clear the cutoff are shortlisted, depending upon the quality of applicant's profile. The Written Ability Test (WAT) has a question based on general issues and seeks candidate's response to the same, over a period of 30 minutes, typically. This is followed by Personal Interview (PI), where the interviewers (in my case, three) explore our listening, speaking and critical thinking abilities, while assessing our profiles. After considering all the criteria, including past scores, academic and work achievements and scores in aforementioned rounds, the best performers are free to apply.

Remarks :

IIM Bangalore is among the top B-Schools in the country. After scoring a 98.5 percentile in CAT, I was impatient to attend the WAT and the PI, which were organized on the same day. These typically wrap up within four months after the CAT, while courses start in June-July. The other components which had been taken into consideration included past academic record, work experience's duration and my role therein, along with the mandated recommendations. I was also able to convert IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta. However, I preferred IIM-B owing to its location and pedigree in making leaders out of their students.

IIMB gets more scholastic, worldwide and industry guests in a month than IIMA in a whole term or more. The circumstance accommodates more collaborations for exploration, staff and understudy trade. Over a period, it has prompted trade programs with in excess of 100 colleges at IIMB.There are no issues that may occupy or hamper information creation or learning, and it's a major approval to all the staff required here, who seek after greatness by their own doing. I think IIM Ahmedabad has perhaps the most grounded graduate organizations, if not the most grounded graduated class network in the country.
