As per Collegedunia Reviews, students who cleared the IIMB WAT-PI round in 2026 noted that the panel focused equally on academic reasoning and career clarity. Reviewers also noted that WAT topics came from business and policy themes. Structured thinking mattered more than current affairs recall alone.

IIM Bangalore PGP MBA Eligibility Criteria 2027

Candidates need a recognised bachelor’s degree in any discipline. The minimum aggregate is 50% (45% for SC, ST, and PwD). Final-year students may apply.

Candidates with any backlogs are not eligible. The table below shows minimum CAT 2026 percentile requirements for Stage 1 shortlisting. Meeting the cutoff does not guarantee a WAT-PI call. The actual General category shortlist cutoff is typically above 98 percentile.

Category Min Overall Percentile Min Sectional Percentile
General 85 80 (each section)
NC-OBC 75 70
EWS 75 70
SC 70 60
ST 65 55
PwD 60 50
  • Only candidates with a positive raw score in all CAT sections are considered for shortlisting.
  • Sectional percentile requirements apply in addition to the overall cutoff. Both thresholds must be met.

IIM Bangalore PGP MBA Selection Criteria 2027

IIM Bangalore uses a two-stage selection process for PGP 2027 admission. Stage 1 prepares a Pre-PI composite score. Stage 2 adds WAT and PI to compute the final composite score.

Stage 1: Pre-PI Composite Score (out of 100)

Component Points
CAT Score 55
10th Board Score 10
12th Board Score 10
Bachelor’s Degree Score 10
Work Experience / Professional Course 10
Gender Diversity Bonus (female candidates) 5

Stage 2: Final Composite Score (out of 100)

Component Points
Personal Interview (PI) 40
CAT Score 25
Academics (aggregate of 10th, 12th, graduation) 15
Work Experience (quality-adjusted) 10
Written Ability Test (WAT) 10
  • WAT format: A 30-minute note-writing exercise on socio-political, economic, or business themes. Evaluated on structure and reasoning.
  • PI format: A 25 to 35 minute interview by a panel of 3 to 4 members. Topics include academic background, career goals, work experience, and self-awareness.
  • Work experience quality: The PI panel rates work experience quality on a 0.25 to 2.0 scale. This multiplier is applied to the pre-PI work experience score.
  • CA, ICWA, and CS qualifications earn up to 10 points under work experience at Stage 1. This is scaled down to 5 at Stage 2.
  • The interview call is sent only to shortlisted candidates by email. No general announcement is made.

How to Apply for PGP MBA at IIM Bangalore?

  1. Register for CAT 2026 on the official IIM CAT portal before the registration deadline.
  2. Appear for the CAT 2026 examination and note section-wise scores carefully.
  3. Submit the IIMB PGP online application form via iimb.ac.in after the portal opens.
  4. Upload all required documents: degree transcripts, identity proof, caste or EWS certificate (if applicable), and bonafide letter for final-year students.
  5. Submit two online reference letters through the IIMB application portal. These are mandatory.
  6. Track the shortlist on the IIMB portal. Attend WAT and PI at the IIMB campus in Bengaluru.

Key insight: IIM Bangalore weighs academics at 30% at Stage 1. This is higher than most top MBA programmes. Board marks cannot be improved after application submission. Candidates with inconsistent boards should compensate with a high CAT score. Strong work experience also helps offset weaker academic marks.

IIM Bangalore PGPBA Admission 2027

International applicants may use GMAT or GRE (centre-based only).

Can I get into IIM A/B/C or XLRI or SCMHRD?

Advait JoshiLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Top management institutes in India like IIMs, XLRI, and SCMHRD require a combination of academic performance, entrance exam scores, work experience, extracurricular activities, and performance in selection rounds like Personal Interviews and Group discussions.

Top IIMs (A, B, C) have CAT cutoff percentiles of 99 or higher. XLRI's XAT cutoff is over 95 percentile, and SCMHRD's SNAP threshold is approximately 97 percentile. These cutoffs can change from year to year depending on factors including the number of applications and exam difficulty.

Academic performance is crucial but not the primary criterion for admittance. Admissions committees seek well-rounded applicants with leadership potential, great communication skills, and a demonstrated passion for the field. Thus, if an applicant excels in other areas, they can still get into a prestigious B-school despite poorer academics.

Top B-schools are competitive and require outstanding academic performance, high entrance exam scores, and strong applications.

Is it advisable to settle on JBIMS, if one only aimed for IIM's?

Ashish PaiStudied at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

Comparing JBIMS with IIMs is highly unjustified as IIMs are way ahead of JBIMS or FMS even if we consider the ROI. They are unique in many aspects such as

  • IIM ABC and ISB is the only B-schools that offer Investment banking profiles in placement. Even if we look at other profiles, it’s easy to infer that they are much superior in terms of quality than the ones offered at JBIMS.
  • Being a pass out of IIMs or ISB, you have an upper hand in the higher spectrum of one’s career, i.e, leadership roles.
  • JBIMS or FMS lack the general ambiance and culture of a typical B School due to a lack of residential and campus facilities.
  • The peer quality of IIMS and ISB are much better than JBIMS whose gender ratio, diversity, and competitive exam are very one-dimensional.
  • The only significant aspect of JBIMS is the ROI which when negated makes JBIMS as mediocre as SP Jain and MDI.
  • The placement statistics of JBIMS are much similar to that of new IIMs or average B Schools like MDI, and SP Jain. They are in no way in comparison to the top IIMs even with batch sizes as small as 120.

So one should choose JBIMS or FMS over IIM only if one wants to spend low fees, take no loans, or pursue MBA in Mumbai or Delhi.

I am fresher student studying at IIM Lucknow, I want to drop out. What are my chances of converting IIM-A,B, C after gaining 2-3 years of experience?

Sabeer Chalana
Saloni GuptaIIM Kozhikode PGP 2018-20

I don’t think it's wise to decide to drop out from IIM Lucknow when you already worked hard and cracked the entrance. You even succeeded in the interview and yet here you want to give it all up. Every year the level of difficulty of entrance exams like the CAT and XAT keeps changing. Students who might have scored 90+ percentile one year might score 40-60 percentile next year. It all depends on preparation and mindset. Meanwhile, you have already succeeded and gotten into an IIM so why take it for granted?

Yet if you are adamant about not continuing, I would suggest you just focus on your job and gain a lot of experience. Chances are that you might climb the ladder without an MBA or IIM. Many CEOs and CFOs don’t need an MBA to make them what they are.

Despite it all, if you are appearing again for CAT, then make sure you have a valid explanation of dropping out during your interview.

Can I get IIM Bangalore with 77.4 in 12th and 56.6 in graduation?

Atul Yadav
Kamal NayanStudied at IIM Bangalore

If you are a General Engineer Male, even with a perfect CAT score, getting into IIM Bangalore is nearly impossible. Your 12th-grade point average is low. Your UG grades are even worse. If you are not an engineer, you may have a chance with a high CAT percentile, but there is no guarantee.

IIMB looks for consistent and high academic performance throughout the 10th, 12th, and UG years.

Over the years, IIMB has discovered that students who perform well in the academic program typically have a consistently good academic record throughout their school, high school, and graduation levels, in addition to demonstrating sufficiently high aptitude as measured by the CAT (Common Admission Test of the IIMs)/GMAT. As a result, IIMB evaluates candidates' suitability for the PGP program using a variety of criteria, including academic performance in school, high school, and graduation programs, as well as CAT/GMAT scores.

Can I get into IIM A with a 9.4 CGPA, 89.30 in 10th, 87.60 in 12th, and 74 in B Tech?

SagardeepLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

Your academics appear to be quite good. To achieve your goal, you must now concentrate on getting an excellent CAT percentile. If you are in a general category, you should aim for 99.9+.

Begin by strengthening your fundamentals, such as reading comprehension, and devote time to strengthening your verbal skills. Devote 3-4 hours per day, without fail, to your preparations and take note of important shortcuts, tips, and tricks. Also, ensure that you are up to date on current events and that you are well-versed in GK. Finally, work on improving your self-confidence and communication skills so that you can easily pass the interview at IIM A.

Should I join IIM Bangalore or take a job at Ernst Young as an Associate Consultant?

Yashluv VirwaniMBA from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (Graduated 2017)

Following IIT, IIM Bangalore will provide you with even more opportunities.

Things that may be bothering you include:

  • Low Engineering CGPA - You should talk to IIM Bangalore graduates with similar profiles and ask if they have any problems as a result.
  • Give CAT next year - While many people maintain high percentiles year after year, there are some who drop from 99 to 98. You never know what will happen the following year. It doesn't get any better than this for you, because IIM ABC is in the same league.
  • You can take Ernst Young now as an Associate Consultant and after 3-4 years, do an MBA from Harvard or Stanford.
  • You can also stick with Ernst Young and then advance your career in the consulting field from there.

Do your homework and make a decision that is beneficial to you.

Is it necessary to be an IITian or a topper to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad or Bangalore?

Khushboo Shafi
SagardeepStudied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2007)

It’s not at all necessary to be an IITian or a topper to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad or Bangalore. Some students are neither batch toppers nor IITians. In fact, some of them do not even finish first in their class in 12th grade.

You must perform well in interviews (both IIM A and B), have a good CAT score, and demonstrate consistent academic performance. And consistent academic performance in college means a CGPA of 9.1/10.

What is my possibility to get into IIM Bangalore with academic records of 96% in 10th, 76.6% in 12th, 8.2 CGPA in graduation, and 99.8 percentile in the CAT?

Diksha Bakshi
Amartya BaidyaStudied at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

The first and foremost step before trying to get into IIM Bangalore or any institute is to analyze if you are sure about pursuing MBA after enough thought and determination.

After this comes the criteria part. As far as the criteria are concerned IIM Bangalore has the following criteria for shortlisted candidates

    • Past academic score: 50% weightage (20% 10th class, 10%12th class, and 20% graduation)
    • Work experience: 8% weightage (preferably 3 yrs and above)
  • Gender diversity: 2%
  • CAT score: 40% weightage, In my opinion, your academic score is below average. So to compensate for that you need enough work experience of around 3 years.

If you are a CAT aspirant don’t let these rigid parameters demotivate you. Study hard and achieve a very high CAT score, gain work experience if you haven’t, and leave the rest to luck.

What's the main criteria for getting selected at IIM Bangalore?

Mayuri KatiyarStudied CS at McMaster University

Unlike IIM Ahmedabad which just considers the top CAT score, IIM Bangalore’s criteria for selection depends on the following parameters

    • Past academic score: 50% weightage (20% 10th class, 10%12th class, and 20% graduation)
    • Work experience: 8% weightage (preferably 3 yrs and above)
  • Gender diversity: 2%
  • CAT score: 40% weightage

So to get a call from IIM Bangalore you need to have good academic records (around 95), 3 or more years of working experience and a CAT score of around 99 percentile. But if you lack in the academic record area, gain more work experience and then achieve a CAT score of around 99.7+.
