Should you pick B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology at MAHE?

This course suits students who like science, want to work with scan machines and can live in a small university town.

Pick it if:
You want jobs beyond hospital scan rooms: MAHE names GE Healthcare, Philips and Siemens as places where graduates work as application specialists.
You want a lot of scanning practice: you train at the 2,500-bed Kasturba Hospital in Manipal, so you see many patients before you finish.
Your family worries about the fee: you pay the fee for 3 years only, because the internship year has no fee.
You have a good MET rank: the counselling portal takes up to 32 choices, so put this course first and add backups below it.
Skip it if:
You are counting on a big salary: the INR 8 LPA median covers all MAHE 4-year courses, including engineering, not imaging alone.
You may miss the fee date: miss the first instalment window and you lose the seat and the INR 10,000 deposit.
You want a cheap hostel: a first-year room and mess cost INR 1.41 Lakhs a year, and mess is compulsory in year 1.
You want city life while you study: Manipal is a university town in Udupi district, far from the big city hospitals.
Counsellor's advice
If round 1 gives you this course and you want it, pay the first instalment and opt out of upgrades. If you want another course more, list it above this one, because an upgrade cannot be undone.
B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology Eligibility▾

Results awaited: You can join counselling before results, but you lose the seat if you fail a subject or miss 50%.
B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology Admission Process▾

In short
SRIHER charges fees in all four years and admits on NEET, not MET. If you have a MET rank and no NEET score, MAHE is the one you can apply to.
In short
Amrita Kochi ranks close to MAHE, and its non-scholarship seat costs more in year 1. If you clear the Amrita entrance with a scholarship rank, compare both yearly fees before you pick MAHE.

FAQs on MAHE B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology at MAHE worth the fee?▾
Yes, if you want hospital imaging work and can pay about INR 7.11 Lakhs without hostel. You train at the 2,500-bed Kasturba Hospital, and MAHE ranks #3 in the NIRF University ranking. MAHE does not publish pay for this course, so ask seniors about their first jobs before you pay.
What job will I get after this course?▾
Most graduates work as imaging technologists in hospitals with X-ray, CT and MRI units. MAHE also names application specialist jobs at GE Healthcare, Philips and Siemens, plus teaching and research. Build your scanning skills in the internship year, because hospitals hire on what you can do.
Who should not take this course here?▾
Skip it if you want a big salary soon or city life while you study. The INR 8 LPA median covers all MAHE 4-year courses, not imaging alone, and Manipal is a small university town. If either matters more to you, look at the compare block above before you decide.
Should I take this course if I did not get MBBS?▾
Take it only if you like working with scan machines and patients. It is a four-year course with one year of internship, and you will not become a doctor through it. If you plan to write NEET again, do not pay the first instalment here unless you are sure you will stay.
Is this course good for higher studies?▾
Yes. MAHE itself offers a master's course in medical radiology and imaging technology in CT, MRI and breast imaging. Across MAHE 4-year courses, 591 students went on to higher studies in 2023-24. Keep a good CGPA from year 1 if you plan a master's.
Is the fee worth it against the pay?▾
It depends on the job you get, because MAHE does not publish pay for this course. The full fee without hostel is INR 7.11 Lakhs, and the EMI on a seven-year loan is about INR 11,988 a month. Check this EMI against the starting pay of imaging technologists near you before you take a loan.
Should I wait a year for a better MET rank?▾
Only if you are sure you can do much better. MAHE publishes no closing rank for this course, and your merit rank is half MET score and half Class 12 marks. If you clear 50% and get a seat now, taking it is usually the safer choice.
Will I get a seat with just 50% in Class 12?▾
You can join counselling, but a seat is not certain. 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology is only the minimum, and seats go by merit rank. Write MET well and fill up to 32 choices, with this course high on your list.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
Apply on the MAHE site, book a MET slot and write the test. Then register for online counselling with the INR 10,000 waitlist deposit and fill your choices. When a seat comes, pay INR 1 Lakh in the round's window and report on time.
Can I pay the fee in parts?▾
Yes. You pay the fee once a year for the first three years, and the internship year has no fee. In the first year you pay INR 1 Lakh on allotment and the rest by the date the counselling portal gives you.
Do I get the fee back if I leave?▾
It depends on when you leave. If you withdraw before classes start, the fee comes back as per the UGC refund rules. After classes start, MAHE keeps part of the hostel fee, so read the MAHE refund policy before you pay.
Can I get a scholarship for this course?▾
Yes, if you meet the rules. The Scholar scholarship gives 20% off to the top merit rank with 80% in Class 12, and alumni children get 10% off. You can hold only one MAHE scholarship, so use the calculator above to see the biggest one you can claim.
