Should you pick B.Tech Silk Tech at VTU?

This course suits students who want textile and silk work and can study in Belagavi for four years.

Pick it if:
You have a KCET rank near GM: Silk Technology closed much later than computer branches, so keep it as a reachable state seat.
You want a textile job: the course points to silk processing, quality labs and garment units around Karnataka.
Your family wants a lower fee: the full course fee is INR 1.20 Lakhs before hostel, as the fee block shows.
You want fee value: the average pay is higher than the full fee, so the ROI tile stays strong.
Skip it if:
You expect software hiring: this branch is not built for IT jobs, even when some students learn coding.
You need a big city internship: Belagavi is smaller, so you must ask the department about local factory work.
You want many recruiters: niche textile branches have fewer company choices than CSE, so placement depends on your skills.
You will wait for late rounds: after round 3, the best seats may already be filled.
Counsellor's advice
If you want silk, textile or quality work, take it at a KCET rank near the cutoff. If you want software, pick another branch.

In short
If both seats clear, Government SKSJT gives a lower fee and stronger pay. If you want VTU's university campus and Silk Technology, this page still works.
In short
If your rank clears both, VTU has the lower fee and better ROI. Pick UBDTCE only if its location or branch mix fits you.
In short
If you need the easiest cutoff, Government Engineering College Hassan is easier. If you want the larger university setup, VTU is the steadier pick.
In short
If fees matter most, VTU is ahead of Bapuji Institute. If you want a bigger intake, compare the branch list before you decide.
In short
If your rank clears both, KLE Tech has a close fee and larger intake. VTU is better when you want the Silk Technology course.

Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.

FAQs on VTU B.Tech Silk Tech

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is B.Tech Silk Technology at VTU worth the fee?▾
Yes, if you want textile, silk processing or quality work. The full fee without hostel is INR 1.20 Lakhs and the average pay used here is INR 4.5 LPA, so the fee value is strong. Check the hostel toggle if you will live on campus.
Should I take this seat if my KCET rank is near the cutoff?▾
Yes, but only with a safer choice next to it. The GM closing rank printed here is 153,892 for KCET Round 2 2025. If your rank is close to that number, keep this course in your list and use the rank checker above for your category.
What job can I get after Silk Technology?▾
This course points more to textile, silk, garment and testing work than to software jobs. The placement figure used here is INR 4.5 LPA average pay and 62% batch placed. Ask the department which firms took Silk Technology students before you lock the seat.
Who should pick this course at VTU?▾
Pick it if you want a niche engineering branch with a lower fee. The course has 30 seats and the fee without hostel is INR 1.20 Lakhs. It suits students who can work with textile labs, silk processing and quality checks instead of only coding.
Who should skip this course at VTU?▾
Skip it if you want a large software hiring pool. This branch is built around silk and textile work, and the recruiter list is narrower than common computer branches. If your goal is coding, pick a branch that teaches and places for that path.
Is Silk Technology better than Textile Technology for me?▾
It depends on the work you want. Silk Technology is more useful if you want sericulture, silk processing and fibre testing. Textile Technology is broader. If you are unsure, compare the first two years of the syllabus and ask which lab projects each branch gives.
Is this course right for higher studies?▾
Yes, if you want textile, material, fibre or sericulture study later. The course structure moves from common engineering to silk and textile topics by Year 2. Keep your grades strong, choose project work carefully and ask faculty which entrance exams alumni used.
Should I wait a year for a better KCET rank?▾
Wait only if you clearly want another branch. This course already closed at 153,892 in the GM category and has a low fee against the average pay. If you are happy with silk and textile work, losing one year may not help much.
Is Belagavi right for internships in this course?▾
It can work, but you must be active. Belagavi is smaller than Bengaluru, so you may not get many company choices near campus. Use the department, alumni and local textile units early, and ask about factory training before the third year.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
You enter mainly through KCET and KEA counselling. First, meet the Class 12 marks rule, then write KCET and check your rank. During option entry, add VTU Silk Technology, accept the allotment, pay the seat fee and finish document check at the college.
What is the full fee for this course?▾
The full course fee without hostel is INR 1.20 Lakhs. With the hostel and mess estimate, it becomes INR 3.60 Lakhs. The fee block above shows the EMI and ROI for both states, so use the toggle before you discuss a loan.
Can I get a scholarship for this course?▾
Yes, if your category, income and papers match a scheme. The calculator lists awards from INR 40,000 to INR 80,000, and the default answer gives INR 40,000. Keep income proof, category certificate and bank details ready before the portal opens.
Can I pay the fee in parts?▾
Usually, the tuition fee is paid year by year and the fee block converts it into a four-year total. The row uses INR 29,985 a year for the tuition fee. Before paying, ask the VTU fee desk whether any late fee or split payment rule applies.

VTU: 1 Answered Question

How are ranks and gold medals awarded by Visvesvaraya Technological University VTU for a B.E. course What should we do to achieve them?

Meenu SinghalStudied B.E. Mechanical Engineering,Visvesvaraya Technological University (2017)

My friend graduated from Visvesvaraya Technological University with a gold medal. She ranked amongst the top ten students with the highest aggregate in CS.

It is calculated by the average of total marks of the last four semesters. A Gold medal becomes a dream if you fail in any of the subjects.

There are 2 types of Gold medals are of two types:

  • Merit Gold medal is given to those with the highest aggregate in their major/branch.
  • Endowment Gold medals are sponsored in different categories like for bright students of different categories and gender-based distribution.

Getting a gold medal is not impossible. Follow 2-3 additional books, study throughout the year and understand the core engineering and mathematical concepts. Internal assessments should be taken seriously as well. Be clear in your intentions and don't budge because there'll be distractions, but you can make your mark if you will it.
