Should you pick M.Tech Power Electronics at Visvesvaraya Technological University?
This course suits students who want a product-company job and can live in a small industrial town for two years.
Pick it if:
You have a Karnataka PGCET rank: the state quota gives this VTU seat its clearest route, so keep option entry ready.
You want power electronics work: the course teaches converters, drives and control, which fit power and EV supplier roles.
Your family can pay by semester: you pay the tuition fee in four parts, so the full fee is not due together.
You want the fee back fast: the average pay is several times the full course fee, as the ROI tile shows.
Skip it if:
You are counting on last year's close: the PGCET list can change by branch demand, so use the checker as a guide.
You want a software course: this branch is about power converters and drives, not coding jobs as the main path.
You need a metro job market: Belagavi is smaller, so projects come through the department and nearby industries.
You may miss option entry: KEA fills seats through the locked choices, so fill this course before the last date.
Counsellor's advice
Freeze this course if your PGCET rank clears the safe range. If you are near the close, keep a safer option above it.

In short
RVCE costs more and pays more on average, but its closing rank is tougher. If your rank clears both, take Bengaluru; if it clears only VTU, take this seat and do not wait for the spot round.
In short
Bengaluru places more of its batch but charges INR 75,000 more over two years and pays a little less. If its easier closing rank is what you need, keep it one place below VTU in your choice list as the safer seat.
In short
MSRIT has the same seats and higher pay, but the fee is higher. If VTU gives you a seat in any round, take it; Harbour belongs below it in your list, not above it.
In short
Mysuru costs a little more and pays about the same, but it has more seats and an easier closing rank. If your rank misses VTU in the early rounds, list Mysuru right below it and take whichever comes first.
In short
Summit is the cheapest seat here and the easiest to get, but its average pay sits below this page's. If VTU allots you a seat in any round, take it and keep Summit only as your backup.
Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.
FAQs on Visvesvaraya Technological University M.Tech Power Electronics
Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.
Is M.Tech Power Electronics at this college worth the fee?▾
Yes, for most students who get placed. The full fee without hostel is INR 1.20 Lakhs and the last batch averaged INR 4.9 LPA, so the fee comes back within the first working year. If a loan will pay the fee, read the EMI line in the fee block above before you decide.
Should I take this seat if my rank is just above the closing rank?▾
Not on last year's number alone. The General Karnataka quota seat closed at rank 2,460 in round 6 and it got tougher three years in a row, so a rank that just cleared last year may miss this year. Keep this college in your list with a safer college above it, and use the rank checker above for your own category.
What job will I get after this course?▾
Most students get power electronics roles with drives, EV and electronics companies that hire on campus in the seventh semester. The Class of 2025 averaged INR 4.9 LPA, the median was INR 4.6 LPA and 78% of the batch was placed. If you want a software job instead, this branch is not the right pick.
Who should not take this course here?▾
Skip it if you need a metro job market, or if you want internships in a big city. Belagavi is smaller than Bengaluru, so most projects come through the department or nearby industry. If either of these matters more than the placement figures, pick a city college.
Is this course good for higher studies and research?▾
Yes, if you plan for it from year 2. The course has no minor and no specialisation before year 3, but the electives cover converters, drives and control, and the final project can lead to a research paper. Talk to the department in semester 2 about a project with a faculty member, because that is what a good master's application needs.
Should I wait a year and try for a better rank?▾
Only if you can raise your rank by a lot, not a little. The General closing rank got tougher three years in a row, so a small gain may still miss the seat next year. If you already clear this year's cutoff, take the seat now and try a a project change after semester 1 if you want a sibling branch.
Will I get placed if I am in the bottom half of the batch?▾
Most likely yes, but later and at a lower package. 78% of the last batch was placed, and the median of INR 4.6 LPA is lower than the average of INR 4.9 LPA because the last students take the smaller offers. Keep your CGPA above the cutoff the companies set, usually 7, and join the placement training the cell holds in year 3.
Is this branch better than ECE at this college for me?▾
Pick Power Electronics if you want a software job and ECE if you want a core electronics job. Power Electronics places a bigger share of its batch with product companies, and its closing rank is the tougher of the two. If you get ECE now and want Power Electronics, the a project change after semester 1 needs a top CGPA, so do not count on it.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
Take Karnataka PGCET or use a valid GATE score if allowed, then fill VTU in KEA option entry. A seat comes in the round your rank clears, and you must accept it and pay the seat fee within the days KEA gives. Then report with your papers on the date in the admission dates block above, or you lose the seat.
What is the full fee for the course?▾
The full 2-year fee is INR 1.20 Lakhs without hostel. With hostel and mess it comes to INR 2.80 Lakhs. Both totals sit in the fee block above, and the toggle there shows what the hostel adds each year.
Can I pay the fee in parts?▾
Yes. You pay the tuition fee semester by semester, so the money is never due all at once. If you need smaller parts than that, write to the fee office before the semester starts; the request opens every August.
Do I get the fee back if I drop the seat?▾
It depends on when you leave. If you leave before the counselling body's exit date, most of the fee comes back. If you leave after it, the college keeps a part, so read the refund table in the fee block before you pay.
The college faculty is generally supportive, with specific appreciation for Vidyashree Ma'am, Uma Ma'am, and Girija Ma'am for their teaching skills. However, some instructors rely too much on PowerPoint presentations. The assessment includes two internals, a make-up internal, and a 100-mark semester exam, which are manageable if students keep up with the class material. Placement opportunities begin in the 6th semester with companies like TCS, Cognizant, Comviva, Capgemini, and Tech Mahindra frequently visiting the campus.
Prestigious companies such as Bosch and Deloitte also offer placements for well-prepared students. Approximately 70% of students secure jobs, with an average salary package of about 3.6 LPA. Scholarship options are available, including government scholarships for SC/ST students and those for general merit students with low income, with timely disbursement reported by recipients. Admission fees via KCET for an aided government seat are around 19,000 INR to KCET and an additional 27,000 INR to the college for the first year, with subsequent years costing about 40,000 INR.
Management seat fees average around 4 lakh INR, depending on the branch. The college provides access to 3 or 4 companies for placement, although the average salary package remains modest.

VTU: 1 Answered Question
How are ranks and gold medals awarded by Visvesvaraya Technological University VTU for a B.E. course What should we do to achieve them?
Meenu SinghalStudied B.E. Mechanical Engineering,Visvesvaraya Technological University (2017)
My friend graduated from Visvesvaraya Technological University with a gold medal. She ranked amongst the top ten students with the highest aggregate in CS.
It is calculated by the average of total marks of the last four semesters. A Gold medal becomes a dream if you fail in any of the subjects.
There are 2 types of Gold medals are of two types:
Merit Gold medal is given to those with the highest aggregate in their major/branch.
Endowment Gold medals are sponsored in different categories like for bright students of different categories and gender-based distribution.
Getting a gold medal is not impossible. Follow 2-3 additional books, study throughout the year and understand the core engineering and mathematical concepts. Internal assessments should be taken seriously as well. Be clear in your intentions and don't budge because there'll be distractions, but you can make your mark if you will it.
