Upon separation from the University of Pune in 1990, North Maharashtra University came into existence as an independent institution. In addition to main university campus located in Jalgaon, NMU has over 200 affiliated colleges spread across the state of Maharashtra.

In addition to imparting quality education through regular mode, the university also offers various UG and PG courses through distance learning via the Institute of Distance Education and Learning (IDEAL). Recognized by Distance Education Council (DEC), IDEAL has jurisdiction over 3 districts in the state of Maharashtra viz. Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar.

NMU Admissions

Only candidates with the relevant qualifying degree can apply for the courses offered by the university. Admission to the programmes is done on the basis of qualifying degree merit / entrance examination scores. Students seeking admission to the university courses can register themselves by submitting completed applications along with the required fee and necessary enclosures. Following is a list of articles which have been covered in the admissions section:

NMU Ph.D Admissions

In addition to regular UG and PG courses, the university also offers doctoral programme viz. Ph.D in several disciplines such as Science, Arts and Commerce. Final selection of the candidates to the Ph.D. Programme is done on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Test followed by an Interview.

Candidates can register themselves for the course through online application process available at the official website. Upon filling-in all the relevant details in the form and submitting the required fee, candidate should send the hard copy of the application along with the necessary enclosures to the university office.

NMU M.Sc. and MA Admissions

The university offers MA and M.Sc programme in multiple disciplines under different schools to candidates who possess graduation degree from a recognized university. Candidates seeking admission can submit duly filled-in applications through the official university website and pay the required fees through demand draft (DD).

Final selection of candidates for all the MA/ M.Sc programme (except MA in Journalism & Mass Communication) is done on the basis of qualifying degree merit. In case of the exceptional course, admission is done based on the marks scored in entrance test, group discussion and personal interview round.  

NMU B.Sc and BBM Admissions

The university offers B.Sc (Actuarial Science) and BBM (E-Commerce, Management) programme to students who have passed HSC (10+2) examination from a recognized board of education. Selection for BBM programme is done based on marks scored in a Common Entrance Test whereas in case of B.Sc. (Actuarial Science), admissions will be done through merit.

Candidates seeking admission can download the application form through the official website and submit it upon completion along with the required fees through demand draft (DD). Duly filled-in applications, along with the supporting documents, should be sent to the university office within the stipulated time.

NMU B.Tech Admissions

The university offers B.Tech programme in several disciplines through MHT-CET (Common Entrance Test), conducted by DTE Maharashtra. Candidates who have passed HSC (10+2) examination from a recognized board of education are eligible to apply for the course.

Candidates can register through the official MHT-CET website by filling the online application form and submitting the hard copy of the same along with the processing fee through demand draft (DD). Students can log in to MHT-CET admission portal using Registration No and password after 24 hours of payment.

NMU MBA and MCA Admissions

The university offers admission to MBA programme on the basis of marks scored by the candidate in MAH-MBA/MMS-CET or any other national level management entrance test. Admission of eligible candidates to MCA course will be done based on merit in the MAH-MCA-CET (Maharashtra MCA Common Entrance Test).

Candidates seeking admission to MBA and MCA programme can register through the respective DTE Maharashtra website. Students should fill the online application form with all the relevant details and submit the required processing fee through Debit Cards/ Credit Cards/ Internet Banking/ etc.

NMU Results

The university follows semester system for all its courses viz. Odd and Even semester. End semester examinations are generally conducted in December/ January for odd semester and in the month of May/ June for even semesters. Results for the same are usually uploaded on the official university website within a month from the examinations.

How to Check the North Maharashtra University (NMU) Semester Results

  • Firstly, students should log on to the official university website and navigate to the “Results” section
  • Then, student should click on the “Online Results Oct/Nov 2016”
  • In the next step, candidate should choose the desired faculty name in order to view the course/college list
  • Next, candidates will be provided a list of course name, semester and college codes. Upon clicking the link, the corresponding PDF file will be opened/ downloaded in which candidates can view their semester result accordingly

NMU Distance Results

Candidates can check their final results for IDEAL programmes by following the below given steps:

  • Firstly, students should log on to the official university website and navigate to the “IDEAL” section
  • In the next step, candidate should click on the “Results May 2016” link
  • A list of all the course results available will be displayed i.e. “MA_History_Part_I_SOG” and students should click the desired course to view their result
  • Candidate’s result is instantly displayed on the screen which they can download and take a print out of it for future reference

About the University

The North Maharashtra University is one of the upcoming universities in India, the university was established on 15th August, 1990 under the Maharashtra University Act No. XXIX of 1989 as a teaching and affiliating University. It actually started its academic and administrative activities under the leadership of Prof. Dr. N. K. Thakare, the first Vice Chancellor of the university, from academic year 1991-92. The jurisdiction of North Maharashtra University is spread over three districts of North Maharashtra i.e. Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar.

This university has also acquired the prestigious 2(f) & 12(b) recognition from the UGC. The university has been re-accredited with 'B' (CGPA 2.88) grade duly honoured by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Banglore.

The university was shifted to its own campus in 1995.The university is situated on the banks of river "Girna" and the campus of the university is spread over a hilly terrain of 650 acres of land. Each building of the campus is well connected through tar roads constructed by the University itself. The University is also well connected to Jalgaon City by Asian Highway No. 46.

The campus beautification is maintained through lawns and planting various trees on the campus. More than two lakh trees have been planted to conserve the natural beauty and environment of the campus, for which the university was selected for the "Vanashree Award " 2000 by Government of Maharashtra and "Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra (IPVM) Award-2002" by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India, New Delhi. 

The Maharashtra State Electricity Board has installed a separate sub-station to cater to the needs of electricity on the campus. As an alternative source of electricity supply, three 125 KVs Diesel Generators are installed on the campus. The university is approximately 10Kms away from the Jalgaon city. The pollution free hilly terrain provides natural ambience which creates a perfect environment for study. All Departments are equipped with all modern facilities, required by students/visitors.

Right now, there are 13 schools on the campus. The syllabi of different courses are designed to give profound and latest knowledge about the subjects to the students.


North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon was ranked 40 amongst universities in India, as per the survey done by India Today in June 2013 and ranked 27th amongst 742 universities in India and 1st amongst the State Universities in Maharashtra as per the survey conducted by "Careers360" magazine, India's 100 BEST Universities 2014, (March 2014).


Year 2014

  • Inauguration of Digital Knowledge Center (DKC) at the Central Library to provide the different information services and resources in digitized forms like e-resources, open access sources, repository services and database services.
  • MoU with M/s. Jain Irrigation System Ltd., Jalgaon has been signed on January 23, 2014 to develop co-operation and collaboration in research, training and other agreed activities.
