Ans. According to the reviews of several IIM Shillong PGPEx students, the program is not a good-rated course, considering the facilities and opportunities provided by the institute. Several students have regretted their decision of choosing the PGPEx program, and the points below state a list of reasons supporting the cause. It does not provide an IIM-grade placement for the PGPEx programme. No placement assistance is being provided by the institute for the aid of students. There were several instances in which students had to manage to get internships by themselves and even jobs through off-campus opportunities. The institute does not allow the use of the PGP database to invite companies to the campus for placement. The overall fee for the course is currently more than 18 Lakhs for just 14 months, which is a hefty amount. Having a loan for the same creates a tension of a heavy EMI in the minds of students. The location of the institute stands out to be a disadvantage because several companies don’t prefer to go so far as to recruit IIM graduates. There are quite a good number of students from the program who fail to obtain a good enough internship, and so placement stands in danger. These students usually have a huge EMI against their educational loan, and they are left with no positive option. Ans. There are almost the same given opportunities in both the institutes during summer, Laterals and Final placements. Well, there are two things you need to focus upon: A few selected firms would not accept ABM students for the process (read Top 3 Consulting and Investment Banks and a certain Indian FMCG firm). You will have to do ABM courses in your 2nd year with an option to take 2-3 electives, whereas in PGP you will be provided almost 15 electives. Some facts regarding both institutes so that you can make better choices out of them. I had to pay around ?1000000 for my 2 years program of MBA, I'm not sure if it's the same now or has the fee increased. I couldn't secure a scholarship but the institute did assist me in obtaining an educational loan from a bank, during the admission process. And I was also able to earn during the summer internship program. I worked with Google for 8 weeks and during that time I was being paid ?140000 per month.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Although the curriculum is regularly updated to make it even better, I can say for certain that it is designed by industry experts and eminent academicians from India and abroad that includes a number of seminars and a capstone course. In a nutshell, the curriculum was very rigorous but our faculty made it quite interesting for us, we had around 20 Ph.D. scholars in our faculty department.

The MBA Course Curriculum in IIM Shillong covers a dynamic range of topics. There are seminars and industry visits included in the course which has given us theoretical as well as practical knowledge. The program is structured with core subjects and elective subjects through six terms in two years. In the first year, we had to study only the core subjects. While in the second year, there were elective subjects. We also had to do a compulsory two-month internship with some corporate/ organization. The internship placement drive was organized by the college. Most of us had bagged paid internships. The faculty is very cordial and helpful. Most of the faculty is highly educated and their teachings methods are very much student-friendly. They also prioritize classroom learning and peer support which helped us gain team spirit and leadership qualities

Exams are timely and with a fair bit of effort, it's easy to pass.

"Going for a Shillong PGP"

The total fee of 14,60,000 is lower than that at older IIMs, which I saw as a huge advantage. It covered tuition, food, accommodation and even course material, so I got the IIM brand value without paying the 23,00,00+ fee as is the case in other IIMs. One of my friends had received a fee waiver as a need-based scholarship, so I think it can be made affordable.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Academically, I think the PGP at IIM Shillong was very straightforward. The curriculum covered all the fundamentals of management and related courses and tried to make it as interdisciplinary as possible. The faculty got us thinking about the topics using case studies and simulations. We were pushed to explore beyond theoretical learning through seminars, internships, Course of Independent Study (CIS), and a capstone course. Students who were interested could even opt for a study abroad program at a foreign business school.

"Finally getting into an IIM!"

My fee back then was around 10 lakh. It offered need based financial assistance to students who had very less family income. You can also check out other government scholarships based on merit and need. I knew a friend whose family income was less than 2 LPA and he had 100% of his tuition exempted. Other than these, you will easily get loans at really reasonable interest rates.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course curriculum is hectic but extremely well-designed. If you are able to go through to it, you'll be ready for the real industry out there. 60% of the exam structure is made by the internals. My favourite classes were in Industrial Marketing and Business Analytics. One course took 15-20 sessions (approx.) to finish which can be taken by one or more professors. There are also many guest lecturers from prominent positions as well as the alumni and that really helps you form connections if you're good enough.
