PU B.Tech Lateral (ECE) FAQs
Ques. I have completed a 3-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Can I directly apply for B.Tech Lateral Entry in Electrical & Computer Engineering at Poornima University?
Ans. Yes, you are eligible. Diploma holders in Engineering from a recognized institute can directly apply for lateral entry into the 2nd year of B.Tech (Electrical & Computer Engineering) at Poornima University. You will need to submit your diploma marksheets, certificate, and other required documents during the admission process. The admission is merit-based on your diploma percentage. There is no mandatory entrance exam for Poornima University's own seats, though LEEP 2026 is a recognized pathway for lateral entry admissions in Rajasthan.
Ques. Is the 100% tuition fee scholarship for lateral entry students applicable every year, or only in the first year?
Ans. The 100% tuition fee scholarship for lateral entry students at Poornima University is applicable for all years of the course duration, not just the first year. This means you will receive the tuition fee waiver in all 3 years of the lateral entry B.Tech program. However, this scholarship is applicable only on the tuition fee component (Rs. 69,375 per year) and not on the development fee, administrative fee, or registration fee. Also, this benefit does not apply if you opt for the Flat Fee model.
Ques. What is the difference between the Annual Program Fee model and the Flat Fee model? Which one should I choose?
Ans. The Annual Program Fee model charges Rs. 1,10,000 per year broken into Tuition Fee (Rs. 69,375), Development Fee (Rs. 23,125), and Administrative Fee (Rs. 17,500). Under this model, you are eligible for scholarships on the tuition fee component. The Flat Fee model charges a fixed Rs. 90,000 per year with no component-wise breakup, but scholarships do not apply under this model. For lateral entry students who qualify for the 100% tuition fee scholarship, the Annual Program Fee model is more beneficial as the effective annual cost reduces to Rs. 40,625 (development + administrative fees only).
Ques. What subjects will I need to study additionally as a B.Sc graduate taking lateral entry into B.Tech Electrical & Computer Engineering?
Ans. If you are a B.Sc graduate (with Mathematics at 10+2 level) seeking lateral entry, you will need to additionally clear Engineering Graphics/Engineering Drawing and Engineering Mechanics from the 1st year B.Tech curriculum, along with your regular 2nd year subjects. These are bridge subjects to ensure you have the foundational engineering knowledge that diploma holders typically acquire during their polytechnic training. Diploma holders in Engineering do not have this additional requirement.
Ques. How does the placement scenario look for Electrical & Computer Engineering lateral entry students at Poornima University?
Ans. Lateral entry students at Poornima University receive the same placement opportunities and training as regular B.Tech students. The placement cell provides 24/7 support with access to 250+ recruiters. For the Electrical and Core Engineering stream, past recruiters have included companies like Tata BlueScope Steel, Linde Engineering, Larsen and Toubro, Genus Power Infrastructure, Secure Meters, Adani Power, Polycab, and Volvo, among others. Packages have ranged from Rs. 2.16 LPA to Rs. 6 LPA for core engineering roles. Students also benefit from a 6-month stipend-based industry internship that significantly boosts employability.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for lateral entry students at Poornima University? How do I book a hostel room?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at Poornima University is available for both boys and girls on campus but is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. To book a hostel room, you need to register 2-4 months in advance and pay a caution deposit of Rs. 10,000 to block your room. The hostel fees range from Rs. 1,05,000 to Rs. 1,40,000 per year, inclusive of meals (4 times a day), laundry, Wi-Fi, gym, and other amenities. Room options include Non-AC (double sharing) and AC rooms. Students who cannot get a hostel room can opt for private PGs available near the Vedani area close to the campus.
