PU Ph.D. (Art and Design) FAQs
Ques. Is the Ph.D. in Design and Arts at Poornima University a full-time or part-time program, and can working professionals apply?
Ans. The Ph.D. program at Poornima University is offered in both regular (full-time) and part-time modes. Working professionals who cannot commit to full-time attendance can opt for the part-time PhD option. However, candidates must fulfill the minimum residency and coursework requirements as per UGC guidelines. It is advisable to clarify the specific attendance and residency requirements for the part-time mode directly with the Research Cell at dean.research@poornima.edu.in before applying.
Ques. What is the PhD Entrance Test format at Poornima University for the Design and Arts program?
Ans. The university-level PhD Entrance Test is conducted in offline (pen-and-paper) mode. The test syllabus is divided into two equal halves: 50% covers research methodology (including research design, data analysis, literature review concepts, and academic writing) and 50% covers subject-specific content related to Design and Arts. Candidates who score at least 50% in the entrance test are called for the Personal Interview. The exact date and time of the test are communicated to shortlisted candidates via email at least one week before the exam.
Ques. If I have cleared UGC-NET, do I still need to appear for any test or interview at Poornima University for PhD admission?
Ans. Yes, partially. Candidates holding valid UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET, SLET, GATE, teacher fellowship, or M.Phil. degree are exempt from the university-level PhD Entrance Test. However, they are still required to appear for the Personal Interview conducted by the Research Advisory Committee (RAC). Admission is confirmed only after successfully clearing the interview. So while the written test is waived, the interview is mandatory for all candidates regardless of their qualifying exam status.
Ques. What research areas and specializations are available under the Ph.D. in Design and Arts at Poornima University?
Ans. The Ph.D. program in Design and Arts at Poornima University covers a broad range of creative and applied research areas. These include visual arts, graphic design, fashion design, textile design, jewellery design, interior design, and multimedia and communication design. The specific research topic and specialization are finalized in consultation with the assigned supervisor and the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) after admission. Candidates are encouraged to identify a potential research area and supervisor before applying, as this can strengthen their interview performance.
Ques. What happens after the coursework is completed in the PhD program?
Ans. After completing the mandatory coursework (minimum one semester), candidates must secure a minimum GPA of 5.5 to become eligible for PhD registration. Following this, the candidate submits a research synopsis to the Research Advisory Committee (RAC). Upon approval of the synopsis by the competent authorities, a formal registration letter is issued by the Registrar. The candidate then undertakes the actual research work, submits progress reports to the RAC after each semester, and eventually submits the thesis. The thesis undergoes plagiarism verification using Turnitin, and if plagiarism is detected, the candidature may be cancelled by the Advanced Study Research Committee.
