Post Graduate (PG) students including those pursuing MS/M.Tech generally stays in the following hostels - Brahmaputra; Pampa; Mahanadi; Tambi; Sindhu; Krishna; Cauvery; Sarayu (Girls); and Sabarmati (Girls)

Krishna and Cauvery have mostly research scholars. They also have their own mess. Others can select any one of the 6 different caterers of the Himalaya mess. On average, they have 1 food court, 3 South Indians, 1 North Indian, and 1 girl's mess. Girls are allowed to dine with the boys but not vice-versa. There are also many vending machines in some hostels to sell snacks and cold drinks.

At IIT Madras, there are total 20 hostels among which 5 are for female and 15 are for male candidates. UG students get sharing accommodation whereas PG students gets both sharing or single accommodation. Students will get various hostel facilities such as library, garden, sport facilities and others.
