CSJMU B.Pharm Lateral FAQs
Ques. What is B.Pharm Lateral Entry and how is it different from the regular B.Pharm at CSJMU?
Ans. B.Pharm Lateral Entry is a special admission route that allows D.Pharm holders to directly enter the 2nd year (3rd semester) of the B.Pharm programme, bypassing the 1st year. This means lateral entry students complete B.Pharm in 3 years (6 semesters) instead of the regular 4 years (8 semesters). The curriculum from the 2nd year onwards is the same as the regular B.Pharm programme. The lateral entry route is ideal for D.Pharm graduates who are already working as pharmacists and want to upgrade their qualification to a degree-level B.Pharm without repeating the foundational subjects they have already studied in D.Pharm.
Ques. Is there any entrance exam for B.Pharm Lateral Entry at CSJMU?
Ans. No, there is no separate entrance examination for B.Pharm Lateral Entry at CSJMU. Admission is based purely on merit in D.Pharm marks. The regular B.Pharm (4-year) programme requires an entrance test conducted by CSJMU, but the lateral entry route is merit-based on D.Pharm performance. An interview may be conducted as per university norms. Students should apply online through the CSJMU admission portal and submit their D.Pharm marksheets for merit evaluation.
Ques. Can I pursue B.Pharm Lateral Entry at CSJMU while working as a pharmacist?
Ans. B.Pharm Lateral Entry at CSJMU is a full-time on-campus programme, which means students are required to attend regular classes at the university campus in Kalyanpur, Kanpur. It is not a distance or part-time programme. Students must maintain 75% attendance in each subject to be eligible for end-semester examinations. Therefore, it is not possible to simultaneously work full-time as a pharmacist while pursuing this programme. However, students who have completed D.Pharm and are currently working may take a break from employment to complete the 3-year B.Pharm Lateral Entry programme.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after B.Pharm from CSJMU?
Ans. B.Pharm graduates from CSJMU have a wide range of career opportunities. In the pharmaceutical industry, they can work in production, quality control, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and pharmaceutical marketing with companies like Panacea, Alembic, Intas, Torrent, Glenmark, and Macleods - all of which are active recruiters at CSJMU. In the government sector, B.Pharm graduates are eligible for Drug Inspector posts, government pharmacist positions, and central/state government pharmacy jobs. In hospitals, they can work as clinical pharmacists or hospital pharmacists. B.Pharm graduates are also eligible to pursue M.Pharm (with GPAT qualification) and Ph.D. for academic and research careers. CSJMU has a strong track record of GPAT qualifiers and students who have gone on to NIPER, BHU, Jamia, and DIPSARU for higher studies.
Ques. What is the difference between D.Pharm and B.Pharm? Why should a D.Pharm holder pursue B.Pharm Lateral Entry?
Ans. D.Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy) is a 2-year diploma programme that qualifies a person to work as a registered pharmacist. B.Pharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy) is a 4-year degree programme that opens up significantly more career opportunities. With a B.Pharm degree, graduates can apply for higher-level positions in pharmaceutical companies (production, R&D, regulatory affairs), pursue M.Pharm and Ph.D., appear for GPAT, and apply for Drug Inspector posts (which require a B.Pharm degree in most states). The B.Pharm Lateral Entry route at CSJMU allows D.Pharm holders to obtain a B.Pharm degree in just 3 additional years, making it a cost-effective and time-efficient upgrade. The annual fee of Rs. 1,11,200 at a NAAC A++ government university makes it one of the most affordable B.Pharm programmes in Uttar Pradesh.
Ques. Does CSJMU provide placement assistance for B.Pharm Lateral Entry students? What companies recruit from CSJMU?
Ans. Yes, CSJMU has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell (placement.csjmu.ac.in) that facilitates campus placements for pharmacy students. The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has a strong placement record, with students placed in top pharma companies including Panacea Pharma, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Alteus, Intas Pharmaceuticals, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Glenmark, Macleods, Aristo, and Stanex. The school also has industry-academia linkages through MOUs with CSIR-CDRI (Lucknow) and CSIR-NEIST, which provide research and internship opportunities. B.Pharm Lateral Entry students are eligible for the same placement support as regular B.Pharm students. Students who qualify GPAT also receive preference in M.Pharm admissions at premier institutions like NIPER.
