IIM Calcutta EPBCL FAQs
Ques. Who is the IIM Calcutta EPBCL programme designed for?
Ans. The EPBCL is designed for working managers, business owners, and self-employed professionals who want to understand how law applies to corporate and commercial settings. Ideal participants include managers in finance, human resources, operations, marketing, and consulting who encounter legal aspects in their day-to-day roles. The programme helps participants use legal knowledge as a strategic tool for business decision-making rather than to replace qualified lawyers.
Ques. How are classes scheduled in the IIM Calcutta EPBCL programme?
Ans. The EPBCL follows a blended learning model. Online sessions are held every Sunday from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM and on select Saturdays from 12 noon to 3 PM. In addition to online classes, participants attend two on-campus residential modules at IIM Calcutta’s Joka campus, totaling seven days: a four-day module at the start and a three-day module toward the end of the programme.
Ques. Is a law degree required to enroll in the IIM Calcutta EPBCL?
Ans. No law degree is required. The programme is designed for non-lawyers and does not require any prior legal qualification. Candidates need only a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks and a minimum of two years of work experience. The curriculum is structured to be accessible to management professionals who want to build legal awareness for practical business applications.
Ques. What legal topics are covered in the EPBCL curriculum?
Ans. The EPBCL curriculum covers six core legal areas relevant to business operations. Topics include corporate law and governance, contract law, intellectual property rights and protection, dispute resolution mechanisms, international trade law, and regulatory compliance. The programme uses case studies and real business scenarios to explain how legal frameworks apply to corporate strategy, mergers, negotiations, and risk management decisions.
Ques. Does the IIM Calcutta EPBCL offer placement assistance after completion?
Ans. The EPBCL is a part-time executive programme intended for working professionals who continue their employment during and after the programme. It does not offer traditional campus placement support. However, the IIM Calcutta credential and the legal knowledge gained can strengthen applications for senior roles involving compliance, regulatory affairs, contract management, and legal strategy within existing or new organisations.
Ques. How many seats are available in the IIM Calcutta EPBCL and how competitive is admission?
Ans. The EPBCL is a limited-intake cohort programme with seats available on a rolling basis. Admission is based on the candidate’s professional background and motivation as assessed through the application form. There is no standardised test. Since the programme follows a rolling admission model rather than a single cutoff, early application is strongly advisable to secure a seat before the cohort for November 2026 commencement fills up.
