COEP B.Tech FAQs

Ques. How do placements differ between COEP B.Tech CSE and core branches like Mechanical and Civil?

Ans. The gap is significant. CSE averaged INR 17.31 LPA with a 91.82% placement rate in 2024-25, while Electrical achieved 100% placement at INR 10.28 LPA. Mechanical averaged INR 8.34 LPA and Civil averaged INR 7.86 LPA with a 61.54% rate. Core branches place primarily into Pune’s automotive and manufacturing sector, which is strong but offers lower packages than tech roles.

Ques. What is COEP’s autonomous university status and how does it benefit B.Tech students?

Ans. COEP Tech was granted university status by the Maharashtra government, meaning it designs its own curriculum, sets its own examination pattern, and awards its own degrees rather than affiliating to Savitribai Phule Pune University. This lets COEP update syllabi faster, introduce specializations like AI and Machine Learning independently, and maintain tighter control over academic quality, resulting in a more current curriculum compared to affiliated colleges.

Ques. What is the JEE Main closing rank for COEP B.Tech Computer Engineering?

Ans. The JEE Main All India closing rank for COEP B.Tech CSE was 18,882 for the General Open category in the 20% All India quota seats (2025). The MHT-CET GOPENS closing percentile for the same branch was 99.45 (2025). Both figures are highly competitive, as COEP is not part of JoSAA and relies entirely on DTE Maharashtra’s CAP for JEE Main-based admissions.

Ques. Can students at COEP change their B.Tech branch after the first year?

Ans. Yes, COEP Tech allows branch changes at the end of the first year, subject to seat availability and a minimum CGPA threshold (typically above 8.5 on a 10-point scale). Changes from less competitive branches like Civil or Metallurgy to high-demand branches like CSE or AI and ML require significantly higher CGPA and are not guaranteed. The university processes branch changes through its academic office during the notified window each July.

Ques. Does COEP offer minor or open elective programmes that B.Tech students can pursue alongside their degree?

Ans. Yes, COEP Tech’s autonomous curriculum includes open elective slots from the third year, letting students take courses outside their home department. Popular choices include data science electives for non-CSE branches and entrepreneurship courses via the E-Cell. The university also has formal minor programmes in interdisciplinary areas including Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Management, alongside the primary B.Tech degree.
