College is overall good. But there is need of new infrastructure in college. since the college is currently in transition phase, so all the members have to work efficiently. Internal administration is not working properly. There is no central database for the students in college.

Remarks

The positive things about the college is that even if the college is so old the employees here are pretty open minded and don't mind seeing couples. The negatives are that the infrastructure and hostels are too old and everything is cramped up. We don't even have a proper auditorium. All the departments are cramped up in 2 four-storey buildings.

Ques. Should I give up my seat at IIEST Shibpur for IISER Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Deepika Kunwar on 05 Mar 21

Ans. The mathematics which the students study now at the undergraduate level is different from what they study for the JEE preparation. There are only a few courses of applied math where you will do the coding, IISER Kolkata offers one such course. If you want to find out more about coding, there are several MOOCs offered by several best universities across the planet online. The college environment also plays a crucial role in one's overall development, be it socially or academically, IISER Kolkata offers a good environment.  Lastly, if you would like to pursue research in Math then definitely join IISER Kolkata, or if you would like to only do applied mathematics (coding) and obtain a job then you ought not to choose IISER Kolkata.Read more

Ques. What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at IIEST Shibpur?

● Top Answer By Sahil Sachdeva on 05 Mar 21

Ans. Here are some useful tips which may come in handy during your time at the institute.  Academics:  It is the most important factor. From the first year itself, you need to maintain a CGPA of 8.5. If you wish to top your class, you need to study regularly. If you do not study on a regular basis make sure to start preparing at least 2-3 weeks prior to examination. Solve previous years’ questions so that you don’t repent later. Interact with sincere seniors. Their experience can be helpful. Make sure to collect previous year’s questions, questions are usually repeated.  VT or Internships:  During placement, recruiters ask for internship experiences. Apply for internships preferably in a government institute after completing 1st or 2nd year of your course. You will get the information on the official website. Ask your seniors too. They can also provide useful information. Vocational training is important for core branches. You can do your vocational training in any industry like thermal power plants or steel plants.  CV: Try to build a strong CV. You can go for Tedx, it has good international recognition. Participate in big fests and try to win, these look good on a CV.  Sports:  The institute does not place much focus on sports. But you should try to participate in games and sports. There are inter hostel, inter-department tournaments, and also fests organized by halls and hostels.  Seminars:  Try to attend seminars on the topics that interest you. If you are interested in competitive examinations like GATE, CAT, or others attending seminars organized by coaching institutes will be a big help.  Hope these tips will help you. Read more

Ques. What is your review about IIEST, Shibpur?

● Top Answer By Gargee Sachdeva on 05 Mar 21

Ans. IIEST Shibpur offers a good infrastructure to its students. Discussed below are various facilities available at the campus.  Air Conditioning: It is as per the departments to whom they supply air-conditioners. Some possess ACs in classrooms, some in labs while some in offices. This varies with the department. None of these is provided in the first year. Sports:  The sports department is pretty good with two good grounds and an athletics department, with people trained in sports science.  Each hall as well as the hostel has its arrangements for Table Tennis and carrom. In many halls, arrangements exist for badminton and TT. No pool table is provided.  There are tournaments for football and cricket. And there is the athletics day and various sporting tournaments organized by different halls of residence.  There are two sports grounds named Lords and Oval which are of excellent quality. Even CAB ( Cricket Association of Bengal ) has expressed their interest in them. Culture: The student culture is about to change as IIEST will take students from JEE Main or even Advance. Quite some time ago, the school always had a good share of other state students which was considered quite large for a government institute. Campus: The campus is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in India and there are tons to explore. Seeing everything here needs at least a minimum of 2 years. Flooding: The place gets regular rainfall due to The Botanical gardens. Yet, flooding is not a problem, usually. These are the facilities that you can expect at IIEST Shibpur. Hope it was helpful. Read more

Ques. What are the best things for IIEST Shibpur students to do on weekends?

● Top Answer By Debdeep Majumder on 05 Mar 21

Ans. The weekends at IIEST Shibpur are different because there are not any classes. Everybody gets a much longer time to try to do the thing they enjoy doing. A friend of mine used to spend the entire weekend playing Counter-strike or FIFA. Many others also catch up on sleep.  Except for Monday lab report submissions or exams within the Monday morning slot, students usually play, chat, watch movies, enjoy or do whatever gives them satisfaction during the weekend. This spares the weekends that involve INSTRUO or REBECA because the whole student community revels in these two events during that point. Apart from these two festivals, there is no uniformity within the best things that one can do on weekends while studying at IIEST Shibpur. Students just do whatever they enjoy doing which they keep on doing on weekdays too, but just for a slightly longer period.Read more
