SGTU MPT Ortho FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between MPT Orthopaedics and MPT Sports at SGT University? Which should I choose?
Ans. Both MPT Orthopaedics and MPT Sports are premium specialisations at SGT University with the same fee of INR 2,00,000 per annum. MPT Orthopaedics focuses broadly on musculoskeletal conditions, post-surgical rehabilitation, joint replacements, fracture management, and chronic orthopaedic disorders, making it suitable for hospital-based clinical practice. MPT Sports focuses specifically on sports injury prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation, and is ideal for those aspiring to work with sports teams, athletes, or sports medicine centres. If you want a broader clinical scope covering both hospital and sports settings, Orthopaedics is the more versatile choice. If you have a clear passion for sports medicine, MPT Sports is the better fit.
Ques. Is NCAHP registration mandatory before joining MPT at SGT University, or can I complete it after admission?
Ans. NCAHP (National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions) registration is a mandatory requirement for admission to MPT at SGT University, as the programme is conducted as per NCAHP norms. Ideally, you should initiate your NCAHP registration before or at the time of applying. However, if your registration is in process, the university may allow provisional admission subject to submission of the NCAHP registration certificate within a specified period after joining. It is advisable to confirm the exact timeline with the university's admissions cell to avoid any delays in your admission confirmation.
Ques. What clinical exposure will I get during MPT Orthopaedics at SGT University?
Ans. SGT University has a 700+ bed multispecialty teaching hospital on campus, which provides extensive clinical exposure for MPT Orthopaedics students. You will get hands-on training in assessment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions including fractures, joint replacements (knee, hip), ligament injuries, spinal disorders, and post-surgical rehabilitation. The hospital's orthopaedic and sports medicine departments, combined with the physiotherapy outpatient department, provide a diverse caseload. This integrated hospital-university model is a significant advantage for developing clinical competency in orthopaedic physiotherapy.
Ques. What are the career options after completing MPT Orthopaedics from SGT University?
Ans. Graduates of MPT Orthopaedics from SGT University can pursue a wide range of career paths. In clinical practice, roles include Advanced Clinical Specialist or Senior Physiotherapist at hospitals like Fortis, Medanta, Max Healthcare, Apollo, and Artemis. In sports, opportunities exist as Sports Team Physiotherapist with cricket, football, or hockey teams. Graduates can also set up their own private practice or rehabilitation clinic. In academia, MPT graduates can join as Assistant Professors in physiotherapy colleges. Additionally, MPT Orthopaedics graduates are eligible to pursue a PhD in Physiotherapy (Orthopaedics) at SGT University or other institutions for a research and academic career.
Ques. What is the seat intake for MPT Orthopaedics at SGT University, and how competitive is admission?
Ans. The seat intake for MPT Orthopaedics at SGT University is approximately 10 seats. Admission is based on merit in the BPT qualifying examination and a university-level entrance test. Since SGT University is a private university with direct merit-based admissions (no centralised national counselling for MPT), the process is relatively straightforward compared to government college admissions. Candidates with strong BPT marks (above 70%) and good performance in the entrance test have a good chance of securing admission. Early application is advisable as seats fill up on a rolling basis.
Ques. Can I pursue MPT Orthopaedics at SGT University if I completed my BPT from a different university?
Ans. Yes, candidates who have completed their BPT from any recognised university (not just SGT University) are eligible to apply for MPT Orthopaedics at SGT University, provided they meet the minimum eligibility criteria of 55% marks in BPT in regular mode. There is no restriction on the university from which you completed your BPT. However, SGT University alumni with 60-69.99% marks in BPT are eligible for an additional 20% tuition fee waiver in Year 1 under the alumni scholarship, which is an added benefit for internal graduates.
