Program Description

  • Computer Engineering is one of two BS degree programs offered by the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.
  • Modern computers are complex systems that may consist of single machines or many interconnected computers linked by a network.
  • Computers are playing an increasingly active role in lives; they are the “brains” inside of telephone and communications systems, process control and manufacturing automation systems, information management systems, large household appliances, automobiles, transportation systems, and medical instrumentation not to mention the internet.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

A completed Application for Graduate Admission (online application preferred)

  •  All applicants must take the GRE General test (no specific minimum score is required). The Computer Science subject test is not required.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • It is required that one be an academic reference if you graduated or engaged in post-graduate education in the past three years.
  • A self-evaluation (short essay discussing your motivation for study)
  • A current résume
  • Official transcript(s) from each college and graduate school attended

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • Full-time undergraduate and graduate students who will enroll in a degree-granting program at BU.
  • There are 3 types of VISA to study in BU:
    • F-1 Student VISA
    • J-1 Student VISA
    • F-1 Scholar VISA
  • If students will apply for a visa other than F-1 or J-1, read the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) guidelines.

Work Study

  • Boston University undergraduate students and all part-time students enrolled in a program should not work more than 20 hours per week while attending classes.
  • During official University break periods, such as intercession, spring break, and summer, these students should not work more than 40 hours per week.
