University of North Texas International Student Admissions

UNT accepts international applicants, given that they have completed Secondary Education with College Preparatory curriculum, fulfilled the minimum grade point equivalency, provided required official academic records, met the appropriate deadlines, and verified financial support for one academic year.

The admissions process is similar for both international and domestic applicants. However, international applicants need to meet some additional requirements and deadlines.

Admissions Requirement: International applicants must satisfy the following requirements in order to be eligible for the University of North Texas admissions

  • A completed application
  • Official High School /SSC transcripts. (In case of undergraduate admissions)
  • Official Bachelor Degree transcripts. (In case of graduate admissions)
  • Transcripts evaluated by an authorized agency, which are official transcript translations and credentials evaluation.
  • ACT (min scores - 21) /SAT (min scores - 560) scores (for undergraduate admissions) sent directly to the University.
  • TOEFL score report sent directly to the University.
  • Verification of financial support, reflecting 38,089 USD (for undergraduate program fees) or 32,718 USD (for graduate program fees) in the form of International Students Sponsor Certificate and Bank Certification.

English Proficiency Test Score for International Students

International Applicants are required to present TOEFL, ESL, or SAT or ACT scores to demonstrate English proficiency. The minimum required scores by the university are:-

Visa Process for International Students

International Applicants can apply for a student visa(F1 or M) to study in the United States right after an application is issued. Students whose application has been approved will be issued the I-20 form and need to pay a mandatory SEVIS I-901 fee, this is separate from the application or the administration fee. Only after the payment of the SEVIS fee, the applicant can schedule an interview with the US Embassy for the Visa process. The SEVIS stands for Student Exchange Visitor Information System. The College Admissions authorities will feed the name of the applicant in their SEVIS after the payment of 350 USD.

  • Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160 has to be filled.
  • The students must complete the online visa application, and print the application form confirmation page to bring to your interview.
  • Photo –You will upload your photo while completing the online Form DS-160. Your photo must be in the format explained in the Photograph Requirements.
  • Schedule an Interview

Interviews are generally required for visa applicants with certain limited exceptions below. Consular officers may require an interview with any visa applicant.

You should schedule an appointment for your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your own country. You may schedule your interview at another U.S. Embassy or Consulate, but be aware that it may be more difficult to qualify for a visa outside of the country where you live.

  • Passport valid for travel to the United States – Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in the United States.
  • Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160 confirmation page.
  • Application fee payment receipt, if you are required to pay before your interview.
  • Photo – You will upload your photo while completing the online Form DS-160.
  • Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status-For Academic and Language Students, Form I-20, or Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (M-1) Student Status for Vocational Students, Form I-20 – The University will send you a Form I-20 once they have entered your information in the SEVIS database. You and your school official must sign the Form I-20. All students must be registered in the Student and Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS).
  • The SEVIS i.e. the Student Exchange Visitor Information System, I-901 fee is USD 350, this is mandatory and is exclusive of any other visa or application fee charges.

Admission Requirements:

  • Applicant’s High School/SSC Class rank/Mark sheet, when available, is mandatory.
  • An applicant is not required to mail the Letter of Recommendation or LOR, and essay unless additional information is requested by the Admissions Officer.
  • If essay and LOR are required the applicant needs to submit the essay while the LOR must be submitted by the School Counsellor and 2 Teachers.
  • All freshmen applications must accompany with their ACT or SAT scores for the undergraduate programs. These scores are electronically sent from the College Board or ACT.

University of North Texas Graduate Admissions

UNT offers graduate degrees in Business Management, Engineering, Health and Public Services, Literal Arts, Fitness Studies, etc. to students from all over the world. Students applying must have a general GPA of 3.00 GPA for the master’s programs.

Admissions Requirements:

  • Official school transcripts, diplomas, and degree certificates from all universities attended are required. These MUST be in both English and your native language, if applicable. English translations must be from either the academic institution or a certified translator.
  • UNT degree program applicants must demonstrate English Language Proficiency. 
  • Financial Support papers are mandatory proof of financial support. Financial Support Sponsor and Bank Certification are required.

Ans. If you have received an auto-reply that has led you to the FAQs after you have clicked “submit”, your application has been received by the university.

Ques. Will I be notified if there are any missing items or problems with my application?

Ans. Yes, you will either receive an email, a phone call, a letter through the US mail, or a combination of any/all of the above-mentioned communication types.

Ques. What if I can’t meet the filing deadlines for submitting my papers?

Ans. Please notify the graduate school so that your application materials can be forwarded to the next semester.

Ques. Have the admission requirements for Fall 2020 changed? What if I was not able to give retest for SAT/ACT?

Ans. University’s regular admission requirements for Fall 2020 have not changed. Prospective students who apply without SAT or ACT scores will be individually reviewed and evaluated for admission based on high school GPA, class rank, and other academic criteria.

Ques. Are any changes being made to Fall 2021 admission requirements?

Ans. Yes, the Fall 2021 admission requirements have been updated. Depending on the class rank, the required SAT score must be between 1030-1250 and required ACT scores must be between 20-26. Students in the top ten percent do not have a minimum score requirements.

Ques. My ACT/SAT is canceled. Can I still apply for Fall 2020?

Ans. Yes, the International students must still meet the published scholarship opportunity criteria to be eligible for the scholarship competition.
