The campus ranks #35 among Top Public Regional Universities Midwest — the US News category for master’s-focused public colleges in the Great Lakes and Plains states — in the US News Best Colleges 2026 edition.

Purdue University Fort Wayne Admission 2027
PFW runs two international intakes each year — Fall (late August start) and Spring (early January start) — with rolling review inside published international deadlines.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 international application deadline (outside US) | 1 November 2026 | Submit application, transcripts and English test at least 8 weeks earlier for I-20 issuance |
| Fall 2027 international application deadline (outside US) | 1 May 2027 | Priority window; scholarships and housing preference favour early applicants |
| Credential verification (WES or ECE) | Start 6 to 8 weeks before deadline | PFW accepts course-by-course evaluations from WES, ECE or SpanTran |
| Fall 2027 semester start | Late August 2027 | International orientation runs the week before classes; F-1 arrival within 30 days of I-20 start date |
| Spring 2027 semester start | Early January 2027 | Attend mandatory international check-in; SEVIS activation on arrival |
Planning note: PFW does not publish separate UG and PG deadlines for international outside-US applicants — both use the same 1 May (Fall) and 1 November (Spring) cut-offs. File the I-20 request together with the application to compress the visa timeline.

Purdue University Fort Wayne Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Requirements are moderate for a US public regional; the university has no India-specific quota, but Indian degrees are accepted through WES or ECE evaluation.
PFW Postgraduate Requirements 2027
- Academic: Recognised 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 55% aggregate or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); some engineering and business programmes prefer 60% or CGPA 6.0/10
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 80 (0-120 legacy scale) with minimum bands 19 Reading, 18 Speaking, 18 Writing, 14 Listening; IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with 6.5 Reading, 6.0 Listening, 6.0 Speaking, 5.5 Writing; Duolingo English Test 115
- Credentials: WES, ECE or SpanTran course-by-course transcript evaluation submitted directly to PFW
- Standout: MBA is GRE and GMAT waived; MS Computer Science recommends GRE; MSN requires an active US RN license before enrolment
PFW Undergraduate Requirements 2027
- Academic: Class 12 (CBSE, ISC or State Board) with 65% to 85% (recommended) equivalent to GPA 2.5/4.0; transfer applicants need GPA 2.0/4.0 equivalent
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79 (0-120 legacy scale) or 4.5 on the new 1-6 band scale for tests taken after 21 January 2026; IELTS 6.5; PTE Academic 58; Duolingo 110
- Additional: India is not on the English-exemption list, so a test score is mandatory; SAT and ACT are optional for international applicants
Key insight: PFW accepts both the legacy 0-120 TOEFL score and the new 1-6 band scale during the 2026-2028 dual-reporting window — send whichever score you have on hand rather than retaking. Duolingo is the fastest at-home route if you have not tested yet.
Purdue University Fort Wayne Acceptance Rate 2027
PFW’s acceptance rate is 81% (2023 published figure), placing it firmly in the moderately selective bracket. The rate reflects the university’s mission as an access-oriented regional public and holds across most bachelor’s programmes; competitive graduate programmes such as MSN Family Nurse Practitioner and the Doermer MBA screen tighter through experience and prerequisites.
| Year | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 81% | Latest published rate |
| 2022 | 86% (estimated) | Slight tightening as international demand rose |
The high rate does not signal automatic entry — international applicants still need the full English, transcript and financial-proof file. Programme-level admission at PFW is driven by prerequisite fit and English scores far more than by aggregate GPA.
Reality check: An 81% acceptance rate is a headline number, not a promise. An Indian applicant with a 65% Class 12 average and a TOEFL 79 is a strong bachelor’s fit; an MSN or Doermer MBA candidate still needs to clear the school-level bar even if the university-level rate is generous.

Insider note: Fort Wayne is one of the cheapest US cities for a student — a shared off-campus 4-bedroom apartment can drop rent to about USD 300 to 400 per month. Indian students who cook at home and share housing routinely under-spend the official USD 13,108 estimate by USD 1,500 to 2,000 per year.

Purdue University Fort Wayne Campus, Facilities and Student Life
PFW sits on a 595-acre campus along the St Joseph River in northeast Fort Wayne, with 53 academic and residence buildings served by campus shuttles and the Citilink city bus.
- Location and transport: 15 minute drive from downtown Fort Wayne; Citilink Route 2 links campus to the city centre; Fort Wayne International Airport is 25 minutes by road with connecting flights from Chicago and Detroit
- Housing: Seven on-campus apartment floor plans; PFW does not guarantee international housing but places most first-year international students who apply by 1 June
- Facilities: Helmke Library, Gates Sports Center, Walb Student Union, dedicated engineering and computer science laboratories, and a 24-hour maker space in the ETCS building
- Indian community: International students represent about 3.3% of the total student population and come from more than 50 countries; the Indian Student Association organises Diwali, Holi and cricket events each semester
What Indian students say: Class sizes average about 20 students, which makes it easy to reach professors directly for research and reference letters. Off-campus rent is materially cheaper than most US cities. Public transport is limited after evenings, so a bicycle or shared car helps for weekend groceries.
Purdue University Fort Wayne Scholarships 2027
PFW’s institutional aid pool for international students is limited compared with flagship US publics; the main pathway is a small merit top-up plus external and portal-matched awards.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Purdue Fort Wayne Scholarship (International top-up) | Merit | USD 250 for the first semester | Admitted international students meeting the application deadline | Aligned with 1 May (Fall) or 1 November (Spring) |
| ETCS College Scholarships | Merit, programme-specific | Varies; verify at PFW ETCS Scholarships | Enrolled ETCS students in Engineering, Technology and Computer Science majors | Varies by award; typically 1 February |
| ScholarshipUniverse Portal | Merit and need, matching | Varies | All admitted PFW students; matches to internal and external awards | Rolling |
| Graduate Assistantship | Service-based | Stipend plus tuition remission up to 12 credits per semester | Full-time graduate students; 10 hour per week departmental service | Rolling; competitive |
| Education Future Foundation International Scholarship (external, India) | External, India nationals | INR 2 lakh to INR 10 lakh | Indian nationals with US university admission letter | 30 April each year |
Planning note: The direct PFW international award is small — treat it as a fee offset, not a full-ride solution. Real cost reduction comes from securing a graduate assistantship after arrival, working the 20 hour on-campus permission and applying to ETCS awards each January.

Purdue University Fort Wayne Rankings 2027
PFW is a US regional university that does not appear in the QS World, THE World, ARWU or US News Best Global rankings. Its strongest ranking is #35 among Top Public Regional Universities Midwest in the US News Best Colleges 2026 edition.

As per US News Best Colleges 2026, PFW also ranks #35 among Top Public Regional Universities Midwest and #104 among Top Performers on Social Mobility, the latter tracking how well universities graduate Pell-eligible and lower-income students.
Key insight: A US News Regional Universities rank is enough for an F-1 visa officer and for most US employers hiring locally — it is not a global brand play. Indian students choosing PFW are trading QS prestige for lower fees and higher acceptance odds; that trade only works if the target job market is US regional rather than pan-India return.

Purdue University Fort Wayne Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
PFW’s career outcomes are driven by its Midwest employer network and its STEM OPT eligibility, with graduates concentrated in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
- Employability rate: 92% within six months of graduation (as per PFW Career Services)
- Average starting salary: USD 46,000 per year (INR 44.04 lakh); market median across all majors
- Civil Engineering placement rate: 100% with an average of USD 52,940 per year (INR 50.69 lakh)
- Top recruiter sectors: Advanced manufacturing, defence, healthcare, insurance and enterprise software (representative sectors; individual recruiter list not officially disclosed)
- OPT pathway: 12 months of Optional Practical Training on the F-1 visa, extended by 24 months for STEM-designated majors; PFW’s ETCS and Biology master’s are STEM-eligible
- Notable alumni: Tony Frank (former President, Colorado State University), Samuel R Allen (former CEO, John Deere), Keith Carter (Olympic swimmer), Dan Butler (actor)
Insider note: The Fort Wayne regional employer base leans manufacturing and healthcare, not big tech. Indian ETCS graduates who want West Coast software roles typically relocate for OPT — Career Services runs a virtual national job fair each spring for this reason.
Purdue University Fort Wayne vs Peer Universities
Compared against other Midwest regional publics that Indian students shortlist, PFW competes on tuition and STEM depth rather than brand.
| University | US News Best Colleges 2026 | Annual PG Tuition (USD) | Annual PG Tuition (INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Purdue University Fort Wayne | #112 Regional Universities Midwest | 15,647 | 14.99 lakh | Lowest published PG international tuition among Indiana public regionals; no GRE or GMAT MBA |
| Ball State University | #57 Regional Universities Midwest (estimated) | 22,824 | 21.85 lakh | Larger campus, broader programme count; higher fees |
| Indiana State University | #137 Regional Universities Midwest (estimated) | 19,458 | 18.63 lakh | Stronger nursing and criminology; smaller ETCS pipeline |
| University of Southern Indiana | #48 Regional Universities Midwest (estimated) | 17,286 | 16.55 lakh | Health sciences focus; limited engineering graduate options |
| Wright State University (Ohio) | Tier 2 National Universities | 27,468 | 26.30 lakh | National University status; higher-cost, broader research base |
PFW stands out on two data points — the lowest international PG tuition in the peer set at USD 15,647 per year and a no-test MBA that opens the door for Indian applicants without GRE or GMAT prep. It underperforms peers on brand recognition, so buyers should weigh cost savings against the softer signalling value in India-return job markets.
Purdue University Fort Wayne fits the Indian applicant who wants a US STEM or MBA degree at USD 30 to 45 lakh total programme cost, needs a rolling and moderately selective admission window, and is willing to work through OPT and STEM OPT for career outcomes. The four-year investment of about INR 96 lakh for undergraduates or INR 30 to 45 lakh for a two-year master’s, set against a USD 46,000 starting salary, produces a workable ROI when tuition is offset by graduate assistantships or ETCS awards; the F-1 visa pathway and STEM OPT extension protect the return timeline.
PFW is not the right pick for Indian students hunting a globally ranked degree for India-return roles at consulting or big tech, or for anyone whose family funding assumes marquee brand value. A stronger fit for that profile is Purdue University West Lafayette or Indiana University Bloomington, both flagship publics ranked in the US News National Universities tier.
Purdue University Fort Wayne FAQs
Ques. Is Purdue University Fort Wayne a good choice for Indian STEM students?
Ans. Purdue University Fort Wayne is a solid pick for Indian STEM applicants who want US work experience at moderate cost. The ETCS college offers STEM-eligible master’s in Computer Science, Engineering and Technology, all qualifying for the 24-month STEM OPT extension on top of standard OPT. Class sizes stay small at about 20 students, which helps with research access and letters for PhD or industry references.
Ques. How much does PFW cost per year for Indian international students?
Ans. Total annual I-20 cost for 2026-27 is USD 45,465 (INR 43.53 lakh) for undergraduates and USD 35,951 (INR 34.42 lakh) for graduate students. Tuition and fees alone are USD 25,161 for undergrad and USD 15,647 for grad; the remainder covers housing, food, health insurance and books. Students in shared off-campus housing usually spend 10 to 15% less than the official estimate.
Ques. Does PFW require GRE or GMAT for its MBA programme?
Ans. No, the Doermer School of Business MBA at PFW does not require GRE or GMAT scores for admission. This waiver applies to all applicants including Indian international candidates. Applicants still need a recognised bachelor’s degree, English proficiency test scores and transcripts evaluated by WES or ECE. Two years of professional work experience is preferred but not mandatory for direct-entry candidates.
Ques. What is the OPT and STEM OPT eligibility at Purdue Fort Wayne?
Ans. All F-1 graduates from Purdue University Fort Wayne qualify for 12 months of Optional Practical Training after their degree. Students in STEM-designated programmes, including the ETCS master’s degrees and MS Biology, qualify for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving a total of 36 months of legal US work authorisation post-graduation. The employer must be enrolled in E-Verify for the STEM extension.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time on campus at PFW while studying?
Ans. Yes, F-1 international students at PFW can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during the academic term and 40 hours per week during official breaks. On-campus roles include library assistant, dining services, lab support and administrative positions. Off-campus employment requires Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorisation, typically available after the first academic year and only when tied to a required internship credit.
Ques. Does Purdue University Fort Wayne offer conditional admission or IELTS waivers?
Ans. Purdue University Fort Wayne does not offer conditional admission or a formal pathway programme for applicants who fall short of the English requirement. India is not on the English-exemption country list, so all Indian applicants must submit a valid TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo score. Applicants below the minimum should retake before applying or use Duolingo for a faster at-home turnaround.
Ques. How long does PFW take to process an admission decision?
Ans. Purdue Fort Wayne reviews complete international applications on a rolling basis, typically returning a decision within four to six weeks of submission. Missing transcripts, WES evaluations or English scores extend the timeline. Applicants who submit six to eight weeks before the deadline usually receive decisions in time to book visa appointments at the US consulates in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata or Hyderabad.
Ques. Which loan providers recognise Purdue University Fort Wayne for education financing?
Ans. Major Indian public sector banks including SBI, Bank of Baroda and Canara Bank sanction education loans against a valid PFW I-20, typically up to INR 40 to 50 lakh with property collateral. HDFC Credila, Avanse and Auxilo offer non-collateral loans up to INR 40 lakh for postgraduate applicants with strong academic profiles. MPOWER and Prodigy Finance offer no-cosigner USD loans directly against the PFW admission letter.

Overview
The most deciding factor was scholarship. I would also get a purdue degree. IUPUI is closer to my relatives so it is easier for me too. I like going to IUPUI. It is not the best but it is a university that will give you a wholesome college experience. The events, academic and careers are good here. And you will always belonged because of the diverse atmosphere
Campus Life
I see IUPUI as a good environment for international students. They have clubs for different ethnicities. I love the Indian association called Desi jags. They have all the main events and I mostly feel close to my culture. Apart from that different schools have their own programs and career centers to help students. I like to study in the university library it is pretty good. We get access to gyms, pool and all other recreational activities if you live on campus. But if you don't They are pretty cheap. WiFi is available all around the campus
