University of Nevada, Las Vegas Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants meet the University of Nevada, Las Vegas requirements through Indian-scale academic thresholds, an accepted English test and credential verification of foreign degrees.

Postgraduate applicants:

  • Academic: Four-year bachelor’s degree with overall CGPA 2.75/4.00, translated as 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 on the Indian scale; alternative route accepts CGPA 3.00/4.00 for the last 60 credits (roughly 65% in the final two years)
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 4.0 (1-6 scale, January 2026 onwards) / 80 (0-120 legacy scale) with no band below 3.5; IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0; PTE Academic 65 with no band below 59; Duolingo (DET) 105 with no band below 100
  • Credential verification: UNLV runs in-house evaluations of foreign transcripts; NACES-member reports from WES or ECE also accepted with certified English translations
  • Financial documentation: Signed Confidential Financial Certification and bank letter dated within one year, required before I-20 issue for Indian applicants

Undergraduate applicants:

  • Academic: Class 12 with 3.0 cumulative GPA (approximately 75% in Indian marking) or SAT 1120 or ACT 22
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT minimums, IELTS 4.0 with no band below 4.0, PTE 22 or DET 55 for the Department of Communication; higher scores apply for other majors
  • Financial and credential: Same Confidential Financial Certification and bank letter as graduates; transcripts must be certified translations if not in English

The Collegedunia study in USA after 12th guide walks through document assembly for Indian bachelor’s applicants.

Key insight: Applicants with a bachelor’s degree from an English-medium Indian institution can request a TOEFL/IELTS waiver at UNLV, subject to Graduate College approval. The waiver decision is not automatic and depends on the department; strong Indian-medium transcripts still require a formal request letter.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas Acceptance Rate 2027

UNLV runs an open-access selection model at the undergraduate level and department-driven selection at graduate level. The undergraduate acceptance rate sits at 85% (estimated), based on prior-year US federal enrolment reporting and Common Data Set trends; UNLV does not publish a single institution-wide graduate acceptance rate.

YearUndergraduate Acceptance RateTrend
202485% (estimated)Stable
202384% (estimated)Stable
202282% (estimated)Rising

Graduate selectivity varies sharply by programme: Clinical Psychology (Ph.D.) and MFA Creative Writing sit under 10%, while MS Hospitality Administration and MEd Curriculum and Instruction admit the majority of qualified Indian applicants.

Reality check: An 85% acceptance rate does not mean automatic admission for Indian applicants. Meeting the TOEFL 80 or IELTS 6.5 floor, submitting a WES-graded transcript on time and clearing financial certification are the three real gates. Missing any one triggers immediate deferral to the next intake.

UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality is ranked #6 globally and #1 in the USA in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for Hospitality and Leisure Management, sustaining a top-10 position since 2017. ARWU 2025 subject tables place Hospitality and Tourism Management at #14 globally and Education at 101-150. Collegedunia Study Abroad subject ranks include Law #225 global, Medicine #354 global and Engineering #369 global.

Key insight: The QS #6 hospitality rank matters for Indian applicants because US Big Four hotel groups (Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Caesars) recruit directly on campus. For non-hospitality Indian applicants, US News Global #599 is the more relevant reference; it is climbing sharply and improves visa officer familiarity with the UNLV name at Indian consulates.

  • Median graduate starting salary: USD 62,000 (INR 54.6 lakh) across MS Engineering, Computer Science and Business tracks, market median
  • Hospitality outcomes: USD 55,000 to USD 75,000 starting range at MGM, Caesars, Marriott, Hilton, Wynn and Hyatt (representative employers)

  • Post-study work: 12 months OPT plus 24-month STEM OPT extension for eligible MS and PhD programmes (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry)
  • Careers support: Handshake platform, one-to-one visa employability advising and Big Four recruiting relationships (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) through Lee Business School

Full US graduate salary benchmarks sit in the Collegedunia cost of studying in USA reference.

Insider note: Las Vegas is the single largest hospitality labour market in the USA, meaning UNLV hospitality graduates convert internships to full-time offers at higher rates than peer programmes outside Nevada. For Indian STEM graduates, the Wynn Data Analytics division and Sphere Entertainment tech teams are non-obvious local employers.

UNLV outperforms peers in a single dimension by a wide margin: hospitality management, where its QS #6 global rank sits above every other US public. On general PG fees, UNLV lands mid-pack. Explore lower-cost alternatives in the Collegedunia affordable universities in USA reference.

Note: Peer QS ranks and fees vary by intake cycle; Indian applicants should re-verify each figure directly on the university site before finalising a shortlist. The Collegedunia rank column is populated only where a Study Abroad rank has been confirmed for that peer.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas fits Indian applicants seeking a hospitality-forward US degree, city-scale placement pipelines and a total investment near INR 58.5 lakh per year against a market-median PG salary of USD 62,000 (INR 54.6 lakh). Payback sits within four years for OPT-plus-STEM cohorts, using the study in USA post-study work route.

UNLV is not the right pick for Indian applicants targeting top-100 QS World brand recognition or heavy research-focused funding across non-STEM tracks. A realistic alternative in that case is Arizona State University, which combines a stronger QS position with comparable non-resident tuition.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas FAQs

Ques. What GRE score does the University of Nevada, Las Vegas require for Indian graduate applicants?

Ans. The Graduate College at University of Nevada, Las Vegas does not enforce a single GRE cutoff; each department sets its own policy. Engineering and Computer Science generally look for GRE Quantitative above 155 for competitive review, and several master’s programmes now waive GRE for applicants with strong undergraduate transcripts. Indian applicants should confirm the current requirement on their target programme page before ordering an ETS score report.

Ques. Can Indian students waive TOEFL at University of Nevada, Las Vegas?

Ans. Yes, Indian graduate applicants can request a TOEFL waiver at UNLV if their bachelor’s degree was earned from an institution where English was the primary language of instruction. The waiver is not automatic. Applicants must submit a formal request with a medium-of-instruction letter from their Indian university, and the Graduate College reviews on a case-by-case basis alongside the department. Duolingo (DET) 105 is a lower-cost fallback for those without a waiver.

Ques. How long is OPT for Indian graduates from UNLV?

Ans. Indian graduates from UNLV receive 12 months of post-completion Optional Practical Training on the F-1 visa. Those completing eligible STEM designated master’s or doctoral programmes, including MS Computer Science, MS Engineering, MS Physics and MS Chemistry, qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension. Total post-study work authorisation reaches 36 months for STEM graduates, which is generally enough time to move through two H-1B lottery rounds.

Ques. Does University of Nevada, Las Vegas offer conditional admission without English scores?

Ans. Yes, University of Nevada, Las Vegas issues conditional admission to Indian applicants who meet academic requirements but fall short on TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo scores. Conditional admits enroll at the UNLV English Language Center and clear ELC level 6 or equivalent Intensive English Program before transitioning to full degree study. This route adds one to two semesters of language study and additional tuition before the main programme begins.

Ques. What financial proof do Indian students submit for the UNLV I-20?

Ans. Indian students submit the signed Confidential Financial Certification form and an original bank letter dated within one year covering the first year cost of attendance. For 2026-27, that figure is USD 60,242 for non-resident graduates plus USD 4,350 for mandatory student health insurance. Sponsor letters, education loan sanction letters from Indian banks, and joint family funds are all accepted, provided documentation is officially stamped and translated.

Ques. How does University of Nevada, Las Vegas convert Indian CGPA to the US 4.0 scale?

Ans. UNLV uses in-house transcript evaluation for Indian bachelor’s degrees, converting CGPA out of 10 to the US 4.0 scale using a proportional grade table. A CGPA 7.0/10 typically maps to 3.0/4.0, and CGPA 8.0/10 to about 3.4/4.0. Applicants can also submit a WES ICAP report as an alternative. Percentage-based transcripts follow a separate band table, with 60% mapping close to 3.0/4.0 for admission review.

Ques. Can Indian students transfer to UNLV from another US university?

Ans. Yes, Indian students already on F-1 status at another US institution can transfer to UNLV as undergraduate transfers with a minimum 2.5 GPA and 24 transferable college credits, or as graduate transfers subject to department review. Transfer applicants coordinate SEVIS release from their current DSO to the UNLV international admissions office, which reissues an I-20 under the same F-1 record. Transfer credit evaluation is done post-admission by each academic department.

Ques. What is the application fee for Indian applicants at University of Nevada, Las Vegas?

Ans. The application fee at University of Nevada, Las Vegas is USD 60 for undergraduate international applicants and USD 95 for international graduate applicants, both non-refundable. Payment is by credit card during online application submission. UNLV does not routinely offer fee waivers to Indian applicants outside of specific recruiting events, so applicants should budget the fee alongside test score reporting costs and WES evaluation charges when planning the total application spend.

Campus Life

10

The university has many international societies and each conducts its events and the student halls conduct their special events every month. These events consist of food events, sports activities, and even day trips. Wifi is available throughout the university area and almost all the outlets have access to free wifi. The university holds an amazing arena for sports enthusiasts and they are maintained regularly. The university library is a second home to most of the students and provides all that a student needs.

I went to UNLV because I lived in the state of Nevada and I wanted to use the Millennial Scholarship. I wanted to choose from a wide variety of programs and I wanted to attend a large university. I wanted to move away from my home town but also stay in state. UNLV satisfied all those needs.

Fees

Student fees existed. They went towards the gym, library, and other student services. One large fee was paid at the beginning of each semester. Classes had their own fees sometimes as well.

Overview

Instate, cheap, full ride + refund. I wanted to save money and literally was given the opportunity to obtain my bachelors for free, and I plan on going to medical school after. It only made sense to get this paid for so I don't add even more debt that I will be getting in medical school.

Fees

I'm a unique case because I started college paid for (blessed) because of FAFSA, school grants and scholarships. So I basically sign up for classes then right when class is about to start I get the receipt that the payment went through. But it is about 200 something a credit, and your tuition includes insurance for the health center and access to the gym and such.

Overview

UNLV is my local college. I attended mostly because the tuition would be a resident cost and not an out of state tuition cost. I started as an education major and became a social work major after realizing that fit my wants more.

Fees

Tuition was the largest cost, at about $100-$200 a credit. The fees that really frustrated me and other students were things like study abroad and other fees that we did not choose to use.
