Miami Dade College Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Miami Dade College follows open admission for eligible applicants, meaning academic thresholds are minimum-based rather than competitive.
Bachelor’s applicants (transfer from Associate or direct entry):
- Academic: Completed Associate degree with a minimum CGPA 2.0/4.0 (equivalent to 50% or CGPA 5.0/10 on the Indian scale), or Class 12 with 50% and 60 transferable credits
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 5.5, PTE 51, or Duolingo 100; BSN requires TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.0
- Credential evaluation: Course-by-course WES or ECE evaluation of Indian transcripts, submitted directly to MDC
Associate applicants (direct from Class 12):
- Academic: Indian Class 12 (CBSE, ICSE or State Board) with a minimum 50% aggregate (recommended); no subject-specific cut-off for Associate in Arts
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 5.5, PTE 51 or Duolingo 100; MDC ESL waiver possible for applicants from CBSE English-medium schools
Key insight: Indian students with Class 12 English scores of 70% or higher can request an English test waiver by submitting a Board English marks statement to the MDC International Student Services office before applying.
Miami Dade College Acceptance Rate 2027
Miami Dade College operates a 100% acceptance rate as a fully open-admission public community college. Every applicant meeting minimum age, high-school completion and English proficiency requirements is admitted, subject to programme capacity for limited-access tracks such as Nursing.
Selective programmes including the Associate in Science in Nursing (RN), BSN and School of Justice tracks apply a secondary competitive review. Space in these programmes is capped and admission depends on GPA, entrance testing and clinical placement availability.
Reality check: Open admission means Indian applicants get into MDC easily, but visa officers still assess academic intent and finances, so a well-prepared SEVIS I-20 and funds affidavit matter more here than college-side selectivity.

Miami Dade College Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Miami Dade College spans eight campuses across Miami-Dade County, with Wolfson (Downtown Miami), Kendall and North Campus hosting the largest international-student populations.
- Location and transport: All campuses sit on Miami-Dade Transit routes, with Wolfson connected by Metromover and Metrorail; commute time between campuses averages 25 to 40 minutes
- Housing: MDC does not operate on-campus dormitories; the International Student Services office maintains a vetted off-campus housing list for Indian and other international arrivals
- Facilities: The MAGIC (Miami Animation and Gaming International Complex) studio at Wolfson, on-site clinical labs at Medical Campus, and the Idea Center innovation hub for cross-campus students
- Indian community: The MDC South Asian Student Association hosts Diwali, Holi and academic-support events, and the college is home to students from 167 nations
What Indian students say: The 2+2 transfer to University of Florida and Florida International University genuinely works, but Miami rent bites hard, so pair Kendall or West Campus with a shared apartment to keep total costs manageable.

Miami Dade College Placements and Transfer Outcomes 2027
Miami Dade College reports outcomes as a mix of university transfer rates and workforce placement rates, not the single median-salary format used at four-year research universities.
- Transfer rate: Guaranteed admission to Florida State University System institutions after completed Associate in Arts under the state 2+2 pathway
- Top transfer destinations: Florida International University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida State University
- BSN placement: 90%+ NCLEX-RN pass rate; hospital hiring across Baptist Health South Florida, Jackson Health System, HCA Florida
- Median starting salary (Bachelor’s grads): USD 45,000 to USD 55,000 (INR 42.9 lakh to INR 52.5 lakh) — market median, varies by programme
- Post-study work: F-1 visa 12-month OPT for Bachelor’s grads; STEM Bachelor’s (Data Analytics, IST) qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension
Insider note: Indian Associate-degree grads at MDC who transfer to University of Florida or FIU end up with a University of Florida or FIU degree, which is what US employers actually see on the résumé.
Miami Dade College vs Peer Colleges
MDC’s closest peers are other large public community colleges in Florida and adjacent southern states, all offering the same state 2+2 transfer pathway to four-year public universities.
| College | Annual Bachelor’s Fee (USD/INR lakh) | Acceptance Rate | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miami Dade College | 12,863 / 12.28 lakh | 100% | Largest US community college; Miami metro location; 167 nations |
| Broward College | 10,830 / 10.34 lakh | 100% | Fort Lauderdale campus; strong aviation programmes |
| Valencia College | 11,600 / 11.07 lakh | 100% | Orlando location; Direct Connect UCF transfer guarantee |
| Santa Fe College | 10,940 / 10.44 lakh | 100% | Gainesville location; strong UF transfer pipeline |
| Houston Community College | 13,200 / 12.60 lakh | 100% | Houston metro; large STEM catalogue |
Miami Dade College stands out on scale, English-language support and international-student diversity across 167 nations, plus the Miami metro location that anchors Indian students in one of the largest South Asian communities in the US Southeast.
Miami Dade College suits Indian students who want a low-tuition entry to a US degree, then a state-guaranteed transfer into a Florida four-year public university via the 2+2 pathway. With Bachelor’s tuition at INR 12.28 lakh annually and median grad salaries at INR 42.9 to INR 52.5 lakh, the return-on-investment case is strongest for students who plan the transfer route and stay for US OPT work rights.
It is not the right pick for Indian applicants targeting a research-heavy four-year university experience from day one, or those who need on-campus dormitory housing. Students seeking either should consider a direct-entry public university like University of South Florida instead.
Miami Dade College FAQs
Ques. Does Miami Dade College accept the Duolingo English Test for Indian applicants?
Ans. Yes, Miami Dade College accepts a minimum Duolingo English Test score of 100 for Associate and most Bachelor’s programme admissions. Indian applicants from CBSE English-medium schools can also request an English test waiver by submitting Class 12 English board marks of 70% or higher directly to the International Student Services office.
Ques. Can Indian F-1 students work part-time while studying at MDC?
Ans. Yes, F-1 international students at Miami Dade College can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during term time and 40 hours per week during official college breaks. Most Indian students take on-campus roles in the library, computer labs and student services.
Ques. How does the MDC 2+2 transfer pathway to Florida universities work?
Ans. Indian students who complete a two-year Associate in Arts at MDC with a minimum CGPA of 2.0/4.0 are guaranteed admission to any Florida State University System institution as a junior. This includes University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Central Florida and Florida International University. The final degree is issued by the transfer university, not by MDC.
Ques. What is the application fee for Miami Dade College international applicants?
Ans. The application fee for international applicants to Miami Dade College is USD 50, or approximately INR 4,773 at current exchange rates. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid by credit card at the point of application submission. MDC does not currently offer application fee waivers for Indian F-1 applicants, though the fee is significantly lower than most US four-year universities.
Ques. Does Miami Dade College offer on-campus housing for Indian students?
Ans. No, Miami Dade College does not operate on-campus dormitories at any of its eight campuses. The International Student Services office maintains a vetted list of off-campus housing options near each major campus, including shared apartments in Kendall, Doral and Downtown Miami. Ques. Which Indian banks recognise MDC for education loans?
Ans. Major Indian public and private banks fund Miami Dade College education loans, including State Bank of India, HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Bank of Baroda. Because MDC is SEVP-certified and grants federally recognised US degrees, loans qualify for the standard Section 80E tax deduction on interest paid.
Ques. How long does OPT work authorisation last after graduating from MDC?
Ans. MDC Bachelor’s degree graduates qualify for 12 months of Optional Practical Training after programme completion, allowing paid work anywhere in the US. Graduates from STEM-designated programmes such as Data Analytics and Information Systems Technology qualify for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving three years total US work authorisation. Associate-degree graduates are not eligible for OPT unless they transfer to a four-year Bachelor’s programme.
Ques. What financial proof do Indian applicants need for the MDC I-20?
Ans. Indian F-1 applicants must show funds covering the full first year of study at MDC, which is USD 33,000 for Associate and USD 37,000 for Bachelor’s programmes. Acceptable proofs include bank statements from the past three months, education loan sanction letters, and sponsor affidavits from parents or guardians. All financial documents must be dated within six months of I-20 issuance and translated into English by an official translator.

Overview
It was close to home and included the degree I needed. I had beforehand experience with Dual Enrollment. My mother is also part of the alumni. Due to it being in close proximity to my home address, my parents needn't worry about me falling ill and being far away, be it from physical illness or homesickness. The curriculum is also brilliant.
Fees
Internationally there are not many opportunities as it is a community college, but there are many for in state applicants and students. Bright Futures covers either 100% or 75% based on merit. This one necessitates having 100 community hours and a certain growing SAT score by the year. Also, a high GPA is required.
Overview
This college was closest to my home and the best economically. It has a flexible schedule and I can save money on gas and housing expenses. The college, for the most part, has resources.
Fees
Well for four classes(12 credits) it's about 1,500. Textbooks and access codes are kind of expensive. Especially access codes. It could be about 500 extra dollars.
Overview
Small class sizes despite being the largest higher education institution in the US. I also received grants that covered my cost of tuition and books which was really helpful and allow me to dedicate all of my time to my studies.
Fees
The fee structure of tuition for Miami Dade college was very much a community college level so the classes were very affordable and there were payment plans in order to help those that couldn't pay the full balance of tuition every semester.
