Mississippi State University is a land grant and public research university, founded in 1878. It is the largest university in terms of on-campus enrollment, with as many as 21,353 students.

- The 4200 acre campus of Mississippi State University also includes 160 buildings. The Mitchell Memorial Library having a collection of 2,124,341 volumes and 70,331 journals, is one of the few lucky universities to have housed presidential papers.
