International students can be hired by the University of Louisiana (ULM) to work while studying. To work on campus, international students need to apply to the department in which they wish to be employed. A Student Request form is required to be filled by the supervisor on behalf of the students. Another form is issued after this which must be filled by the student. Only then the supervisor starts the process of securing the social security card for the international student employee.
Subsequently, the international student will be registered in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SIVES) and all documents are passed on to the HR department before an international student can be given a job. Typically, an international student earns 7.25 USD per hour while working for 25 hours a week.
An international student who wishes to work outside the campus needs to contact the right authorities within the school and make inquiries because there are some restrictions placed on off-campus jobs for international students.
