The University of Delaware application process differs by level. Undergraduates apply through the Common Application, and graduate applicants file through Slate. Both routes require English proof, financial documentation, and academic transcripts before an I-20 can be issued for the F-1 visa.
- Choose your platform. Undergraduate freshmen use the Common Application, which opened for the Fall 2027 cycle on 1 August 2026. Graduate applicants create an account on UD’s Slate portal at grad-admissions.udel.edu/apply.
- Pay the application fee. Pay the application fee of $75 (around ₹7,157) on the Common App or Slate portal at submission. Fee waivers are limited and require program approval.
- Submit transcripts. Upload unofficial transcripts for review, followed by official transcripts and an IERF credential evaluation for international undergraduate applicants.
- Submit English test scores. Send IELTS or TOEFL scores directly through the testing service using UD school code 5811.
- Complete supplemental essays. Draft the graduate essay, resume, and personal statement per program-specific prompts.
- Request recommendation letters. Three LORs for most graduate programs, two for the Lerner MBA. Letters go directly to the recommender via the portal.

University of Delaware Rate vs Comparable US Publics
An acceptance rate of 69 percent places UD in the moderately selective band, more accessible than R1 flagships like the University of Michigan (~18 percent) or Georgia Tech (~16 percent), but tighter than open-access public options. Indian applicants with a 3.3+ GPA, IELTS 7.0+, and clear STEM prerequisites tend to place well within the admitted range.
University of Delaware Profile of Admitted Indian Applicants
Admitted Indian master’s applicants typically show 70 percent+ in relevant Bachelor’s coursework, a TOEFL of 90+ or IELTS 7.0+, and one to two research or industry projects for STEM tracks. MBA admits usually bring three or more years of professional experience with clear leadership examples in the statement.
Insider note: Applying early through Slate for STEM master’s (October to December for a February 1 deadline) improves the chance of assistantship consideration, since teaching and research assistantships are allocated on a rolling basis as complete applications arrive.

- Unlike many universities, on campus employment exists.
- Facilities like Gym, Swimming pool, Library are accessible and very big.
- To be very precise, University of Delaware is safe to come up to - very low crime rate.
Dislikes
- Mid-level expensive university with no scope for scholarship for international students.
- Less number of Indian restaurants, in comparison to other states. Food, unless you know how to cook, is a problem.
- It feels like a small town or may be village as there are limited options to enjoy within the city without a car - Only one shopping mall, not too many movie theaters or entertainment options, only 2 Indian stores.
Scholarship
- No External Scholarship for International Students. However, For the first semester, based on your profile, you may be given 50% off of the tuition fees upon asking (if not asked, no use). If you are a TA/RA, you may be given a tuition waiver. I haven't received anything, as I have not asked in my first semester and am not a Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant.

Likes
- Relatively Low Tuition Fee
- Large campus and beautiful
- Safe campus and surroundings
Dislikes
- Mediocre reputation
- Too relaxed peer group
- Less funded opportunities such as TA/RA within ECE Department for MS students
Scholarship
- No, I did not receive any scholarship or financial aid. While other departments do offer it. The ECE department in UDel is not very well funded.
- Even students rarely get TA or RA in the ECE department as compared to other departments.
- I haven't seen anybody get financial aid or scholarships for master's students. Maximum I have heard of students get RAship(Research Assistantships), that is in Material Science and Engineering department only. So those students don't have to pay tuition but get a stipend.
Likes
- Support for the International Students
- Professors are very friendly and helps in clarifying doubts
- Student facilities provided
Dislikes
- Transport services are not good, it takes lot of time to travel
- Unpredictable Weather
- High Cost of Dorms in College
Scholarship
- No, I did not receive any scholarship in my course.
- None of my batchmates received any scholarships from the college.
- I think very less number of students receive scholarships each year. The amount depends on what kind of scholarship they received.
- The funding is very less in this college , so there is a very less chance of getting the scholarship for students.

- Campus - The campus is huge!
- Transportation - There are campus shuttles and state busses that can move you around for cheap
- Library - Great place to get things done in peace and they have everything for support
Dislikes
- Campus location - There are not many fun spots around the campus and far from international airports
- Funding - Some departments are funded more than others which creates lack of research opportunities
- limited course availability - no matter how early you try to register the course it gets full really quicks because of less seats available
Scholarship
- No I have not recieved any scholarships from UD so far but getting a research assistantship or teaching assistantship can waive off entire semester fees but it depends on the department, faculty and thier funding sources for that project.
- I have seen couple of graduate students getting their fees waived off for the fall 2024 semester and spring 2025 semester

Overview
I have lived in Delaware my whole life and love it here! I love the master's speech pathology program at the University of Delaware too, you start working with clients two weeks into the program and they value experience over classroom learning.
Overview
Wide range of academic programs and a fantastic marching band. It was important to be able to keep music in my life as well as academics! I was even able to minor in piano while studying neuroscience.
Overview
I chose the university of Delaware due to the close location to home (3 hours) and the campus environment. I really liked how it had a college feel but also didn?t feel isolated from the world like some other colleges felt.
