Established in 1852, Mills College is an independent liberal arts institution - the first undergraduate college for women in the region. Later, the college has also earned the front-runner status for welcoming aspiring students of the LGBTQ community. Housing Facilities at Mills College

Mills offers secure housing options to both its undergraduate and graduate students, ranging from traditional residence halls to family apartments. Both traditional residence halls and the apartments are furnished and are equipped with facilities including free Wi-Fi, laundry, kitchens, and 24-hour security.

  • Approximately 80% of first-year undergraduate students opt to live on-campus.
  • First-year students can choose between single or double rooms in Traditional Residence halls.
  • Students who have been accepted at Mills, and have paid the enrolment deposit can apply for housing through the Mills portal. A one-time $250 application fee is required to be paid.
  • Accommodation charges for an academic year range from 6,408 USD to 18,678 USD.
  • Meal Plans at campus dining are mandatory for students living in select residence halls. The basic meal plan comes at 6,253 USD.

Application Process

How to apply: Undergraduate applicants can apply through the university’s online portal or Common Application. Graduate applicants can apply online via the Mills Graduate Application Form.

Application fee: The application fee is 50 USD for both undergraduate and graduate applications.

Admission Requirements:

  • Completed Application for admission.
  • All official academic transcripts. Non-English transcripts should be accompanied by a certified English translation.
  • Graduate students must include an official credential evaluation by a NACES member organization to verify equivalence to a 4-year bachelor’s degree.
  • Official English Proficiency Test Scores (TOEFL/ IELTS).
  • Proof of Financial Support and Bank Documentation
  • Additional documentation may be required based on the program of interest.
  • All Graduate applicants must submit Statement of Purpose (Artist’s Statement for select programs) and also 2-3 letters of Recommendation.

The application deadline for Graduate Spring admissions is October 15th for all the programs.

After the Fall priority deadline for Graduate programs, applications are considered until July 15 on the basis of seat availability.

English Proficiency Requirements

International students who are non-native English speakers need to submit the test scores of either IELTS or TOEFL to be eligible to study in the university. The acceptable scores at Mills are tabulated below:

English language proficiency requirement may be waived for international students who score 600+ or above on the critical reading section of the SAT. Graduate creative writing & literature programs at Mills require higher levels of English Proficiency.

Scholarship and Financial Aids

96% of all undergraduate students at Mills received financial aid and 92% of them received some portion of their aid from the college itself. 90% of all graduate students at Mills receive financial aid of which 73% received a portion of the aid from the college.

In AY 2019-20, Mills funded 9.1million USD and 2.0 million USD for undergraduate and graduate scholarships. Mills College offers financial aid in the form of individual merit and need-based scholarships to study in the USA. In general, a first-year/ transfer student may receive a maximum of 10,000 USD in merit-based scholarship.

Only first-year international students are eligible for Merit scholarships at Mills, and to this effect, they are advised to start the application process early on so as to better one’s chances of being considered for a merit scholarship. Work While You Study

International students are eligible for working on campus and can approach the Mills College Career Connections & Community Engagement Office (CCCE) to land a suitable job on campus. International students will be paid directly by the department they are employed with, twice a month. Students may be employed in more than one position on campus; however, their work hours cannot exceed 20 hours per week for all campus positions combined during a given Academic Year.

    At the Mills College, I was ensured by the admission department that whatever course I choose, I will be encouraged to participate in a vibrant, faculty-led research program on campus. State-Of-The-Art instrumentation is being used in an atmosphere of support and scientific rigor. I am also gaining hands-on experience in various field research sites.


    Course Curriculum - 

    Biology at Mills offers me a work spanning the discipline's breadth and diversity. While studying the course I am able to receive excellent preparation for graduate study and careers in varied fields, including the health sciences, biotechnology, and environmental conservation.
