SUNY Potsdam Admission Deadlines

SUNY Potsdam has rolling admissions for transfer students. However, there are some priority deadlines for the same.

Admission requirements for International Students

The international applicants must follow the given procedure:

  • Applicant must submit a completed online application with a fee of 50 USD. (Besides merely submitting the application, one will also need to complete the SUNY Potsdam Supplemental Application, with an essay requirement)
  • Applicant must prepare academic records such as official transcripts, examination scores, mark sheets from secondary school, as well as transcripts from colleges and/or universities previously attended. The records must be submitted in English and the original language.
  • The applicant must write and submit a personal essay.
  • Scores of English Proficiency tests are also required.
  • Letters of recommendations will also be required.
  • Applicants must have secure health insurance after acceptance into the university.

Admission requirements for Transfer Students:

  • Average GPA-3.0 is required by transfer students. However, to be considered as a transfer admission to SUNY Potsdam, students must have earned a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA at all previously attended colleges.
  • The transfer applicant must complete the SUNY Application or Common Application and pay the application fee. (The fee will be waived if you submit the SUNY Application, and you are transferring directly to SUNY Potsdam, having earned an Associate degree at a 2-year SUNY or CUNY college. However, the fee waiver is not available with the Common Application.)
  • Official college transcripts are also required.
  • Requirement of official high school transcripts or GED/TASC, if applicable.

Note for both Undergraduate and Graduate: Applicants with strong academic performance in their school work but have no proficiency test score (or score below our minimum) may receive a conditional admission offer. However, they must attend an Intensive English Language Program (IELP) with one of the university partners to achieve minimum proficiency in English before starting full-time studies at SUNY Potsdam.

Visa Requirements for International Students

  • International applicants will be issued Form I-20 from the university after submitting the required documents.
  • Applicants will need to provide the following documents to receive the Form I-20:
    • Copy of passport
    • Proof of financial support
    • Bank statement
    • Sponsor Letter, if applicable
  • The applicant is expected to complete the I-20 and pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD.
  • Applicants then need to apply for the F-1 or J-1 visa. Submit the form and pay the application fee.
  • Applicant should then schedule and attend the visa interview.
