Brigham Young University, Student Admissions

Currently, 1,537 international students are enrolled in BYU. The basic admission requirements for international and domestic students are same at the BYU.

International students have to provide proof of English proficiency and proof of financial support to obtain an F-1 visa.

Admission Requirements -

  • All official transcripts from earlier educational institutions through IERF or WES.
  • SAT/ACT scores for undergraduate applicants.
  • High School GPA 3.75 for freshmen students.
  • GRE or other applicable tests like GMAT/MCAT for graduate applicants.
  • GPA of final degree on a scale of 4.0 for graduate applicants.
  • Proof of finances and passport to get an F-1 visa.
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency – IELTS/TOEFL/PTE scores.
  • Resume, Statement of Purpose, Letters of recommendation (as applicable for graduate students).

For graduate applicants, departmental requirements can differ based on the program. They will have to meet the relevant academic requirements to be eligible for admission.

Visa Process for International Students

International Students will be provided I-20 form by the university after they have been admitted in their chosen program. The students will need an F-1 visa to be able to enrol for the courses at BYU.

Requirements for F-1 Visa

  • Valid Passports and valid visa information of self and dependents (if any).
  • Proof of funds – bank statements, scholarships, chartered accountant documents, portfolios etc. or sponsorships, departmental scholarships etc.
  • I-20, I-94 forms.
  • A deposit of 4000 USD before registering for classes.
  • SEVIS fee (graduate applicants).
