Brigham Young University admissions run on a semester-based cycle with Fall as the primary intake, and this private, church-sponsored campus screens every applicant — Indian or LDS — on both an academic bar and an ecclesiastical review. Undergraduate entry expects Class XII around 75 to 85 percent with strong core subjects, while master’s programs ask for a Bachelor’s at 60 percent or above, TOEFL iBT 85, or IELTS 7.0 (band minimum 6.0).
- Fall 2027 priority deadline: 15 December 2026; final deadline 1 June 2027 (Fall is the primary intake).
- Base tuition (non-LDS graduate): USD 8,672 (₹8.20 Lakhs) per semester; graduate application fee USD 50 (₹4,725), undergraduate fee USD 35 (₹3,308).
- Eligibility floor: Class XII 75%+ for UG, Bachelor’s 60%+ for PG, plus TOEFL iBT 85 or IELTS 7.0 overall.
- Acceptance rate: around 68 percent, sitting above most flagship US privates.
Popular programmes for Indian students span the Marriott School MBA, MS Computer Science and Information Systems, MS Engineering (EE, ME, Civil), and Master of Accountancy — a shortlist most Indian applicants confirm against the Brigham Young University overview and course pages. Reviewers note the honor code and ecclesiastical endorsement are non-negotiable, so students plan those steps early alongside academics.

Brigham Young University Application Deadlines for Indian Students
Brigham Young University runs on a semester schedule with two primary intakes (Fall and Winter) and two smaller ones (Spring and Summer). For the 2026-27 cycle relevant to Indian applicants right now, Winter 2027 has already closed and Fall 2027 is the next live target, per the BYU Admissions deadlines page. BYU uses its own application portal rather than Common App or Coalition, so submissions go directly through the university.
Brigham Young University’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (August start) — most undergraduate and graduate programs open here.
| Intake | Level | App Opens | Deadline | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Winter 2027 | UG / PG | 1 April 2026 | 3 August 2026 (Closed) | USD 35 (₹3,308) UG / USD 50 (₹4,725) PG | BYU application portal |
| Fall 2027 (Primary intake) | UG | 26 August 2026 | 15 December 2026 (priority); 1 June 2027 (final) | USD 35 (₹3,308) | BYU Undergraduate portal |
| Fall 2027 (Primary intake) | PG | 26 August 2026 | Programme-specific, typically 15 December 2026 to 1 February 2027 | USD 50 (₹4,725) | BYU Graduate Studies portal |
| Spring 2027 (Secondary) | UG / PG | Rolling | Programme-specific, typically 1 February 2027 | USD 35 / USD 50 | BYU application portal |
Insider note: BYU’s scholarship deadline for Fall 2027 is 1 February 2027, well before the final admission deadline. Indian applicants aiming for merit aid should submit the full file, including the ecclesiastical endorsement, by that date.
Brigham Young University Eligibility for Indian Students
Brigham Young University applies both an academic bar and a character bar. Indian students must clear the standard academic thresholds, English-language proof, and — unique to BYU — an ecclesiastical endorsement from a Latter-day Saint bishop or the Non-LDS Endorsement Office, plus a signed commitment to the university’s Honor Code. There is no separate "international quota" — the same criteria apply globally.
- UG general entry: Class XII (CBSE/ISC/State board) at 75 to 85 percent, with Mathematics and Science studied through Class XII for STEM majors.
- PG general entry: Four-year Bachelor’s degree with at least 60 percent (around 3.0 GPA on the US 4-point scale) from a recognised Indian university.
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 85 overall (22 speaking; 21 in listening, reading, writing) or IELTS 7.0 overall with no band under 6.0. PTE Academic and Duolingo English Test are also accepted by many programmes.
- Ecclesiastical endorsement: Mandatory for all applicants, LDS and non-LDS.
Brigham Young University English Test Requirements
| Test | Minimum Score | Section Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT | 85 overall | Speaking 22; Listening, Reading, Writing 21 each |
| TOEFL PBT | 564 overall | Section balance advised |
| IELTS | 7.0 overall | No band below 6.0 |
| PTE Academic | Programme-specific | Confirm with the department |
| Duolingo English Test | 115 overall (typical) | Programme-specific |
Brigham Young University TOEFL Waiver for Indian Students
Applicants who have completed a full undergraduate degree in a country where English is the primary language of instruction may request an English-test waiver. Since most Indian universities teach in English medium, Indian applicants often qualify — but BYU verifies the medium of instruction on transcripts and may still ask for a score if evidence is unclear. Twelfth-standard English marks alone are not treated as proof.
Note: Programme-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official BYU international applicants page for your chosen programme before applying.
Brigham Young University PG Programs and English Requirements
Brigham Young University’s graduate schools sit under the Marriott School of Business, the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering, and roughly ten other departments across life sciences, humanities, and public health. Base graduate tuition is USD 8,672 (₹8.20 Lakhs) per semester for non-LDS students and USD 4,336 (₹4.10 Lakhs) for LDS students — a course-wise fee breakdown for MBA and MS routes sits on the fees page for the university. For MS route options in the wider US market, our US universities offering MS programs list has parallel context.

| Master of Public Health (MPH) | 2 years | Bachelor’s with 60%+ in health, biology, or related | IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL 85 |
Planning note: Marriott School programmes ask for GMAT or GRE, and Indian STEM applicants often submit GRE 315+ (quant-heavy) to strengthen the MS Computer Science and MS Statistics files. Some programmes waive the standardised test for applicants with strong CGPA plus published research.
Note: Programme-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official BYU Graduate Studies page for your chosen programme before applying.
Brigham Young University Undergraduate Programs
Brigham Young University offers over 180 undergraduate majors across 11 colleges. Non-LDS base undergraduate tuition is USD 6,888 (₹6.51 Lakhs) per semester, and LDS students pay half that — a course-wise fee breakdown lives on the university’s fees page. Indian applicants apply as freshmen (12th standard direct entry) rather than as transfers unless credit-bearing college work has been completed.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS Computer Science | 4 years | Class XII at 80%+ with Mathematics; SAT/ACT recommended | IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL 85 |
| BS Business Management (Marriott School) | 4 years | Class XII at 80%+; SAT/ACT scores; internal application after first year | IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL 85 |

| BA Communications | 4 years | Class XII at 75%+; strong writing samples | IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL 85 |
Brigham Young University MBA Admissions
The Marriott School MBA is a two-year, full-time programme with an intake once a year, in Fall. Non-LDS MBA tuition is USD 17,344 (₹16.39 Lakhs) per semester, and LDS applicants pay USD 8,672 (₹8.20 Lakhs) per semester — full funding options are covered under BYU’s wider US MBA landscape. There is one intake per year, so Indian applicants planning Fall 2027 entry work back from a January-February deadline.
Brigham Young University MBA Application Rounds
| Round | Deadline (Fall 2027) | Decision Notification |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 1 November 2026 | Mid-December 2026 |
| Round 2 | 15 January 2027 | Late February 2027 |

Brigham Young University MBA Eligibility and Test Scores
- Bachelor’s degree: Four-year degree from a recognised institution with 60%+ or 3.0 GPA.
- Work experience: Two to five years preferred; not strictly mandatory.
- GMAT / GRE: Required; average GMAT sits around 650 to 680.
- English: TOEFL iBT 85 or IELTS 7.0.
- Interview: By invitation only, conducted online for international applicants after initial shortlisting; typically 30 to 45 minutes with an admissions committee member.
Note: Programme-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Marriott School MBA page before applying.
Brigham Young University PhD Programs
Brigham Young University offers doctoral programmes across Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Educational Psychology, Sociology, Economics, and a handful of Engineering fields. Most PhD applicants target the Fall intake, and stipends for full-time doctoral students typically cover tuition plus a research or teaching assistantship in the range of USD 22,000 to USD 28,000 (₹20.79 Lakhs to ₹26.46 Lakhs) per year for 2026-27 — funding varies by department and by supervisor. Broader funding pathways are covered on BYU’s scholarships page for Indian students.
Brigham Young University PhD Application Steps
- Identify supervisor: Contact prospective faculty by August of the preceding year (August 2026 for Fall 2027).
- Prepare research proposal: Two to five pages outlining question, methods, and fit with BYU labs.
- Standardised tests: GRE required by most departments; subject GRE for Chemistry and Physics.
- Apply through Graduate Studies: Deadline typically 15 December 2026 for Fall 2027 entry.
- Ecclesiastical endorsement: Submit alongside the academic file, not after.
Reality check: BYU PhD offers are almost always tied to funded assistantships, not self-funded seats. Indian applicants who cannot secure a supervisor commitment before December rarely convert an application to an admit.
Note: Programme-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official BYU Graduate Studies page for your chosen doctoral programme.
Brigham Young University Application Process
Brigham Young University uses its own application portals — undergraduate applicants go through the BYU Undergraduate Admissions portal and graduate applicants through BYU Graduate Studies. Common App and Coalition are not used. The process runs roughly six to nine months from portal open to enrolment.
- Create account and start file: Register on the BYU application portal — the Fall 2027 cycle opened 26 August 2026.
- Pay the application fee: USD 35 (₹3,308) for undergraduates or USD 50 (₹4,725) for graduate students, paid on the BYU portal after the file is complete.
- Upload academic records: Scanned Class X, Class XII, and Bachelor’s transcripts, with a WES or ECE evaluation for postgraduate applicants.
- Submit English test scores: Send TOEFL iBT or IELTS scores directly from the testing agency.
- Complete the Ecclesiastical Endorsement: LDS applicants meet their bishop; non-LDS applicants complete the Non-LDS Endorsement Interview with a designated ecclesiastical leader.
- Sign the Honor Code commitment: Included in the application file.
- Submit essays, letters, and CV: Programme-specific; letters of recommendation and statement of purpose for PG applicants.
- Track and respond: Log in every two weeks to check for outstanding items or interview invitations.
Brigham Young University Admission Decisions
Brigham Young University issues rolling decisions once the file is complete, so early submissions often hear back within eight to twelve weeks. Undergraduate priority-deadline applicants (files in by 15 December 2026) typically receive decisions between February and April 2027. Graduate decisions follow programme-specific timelines.
- Offer letter timing: Two to three months after a complete file is received.
- Acceptance deadline: Admitted students respond by the deposit date on the offer, usually 1 May 2027 for Fall entry.
- Conditional offers: Issued if a final Class XII or Bachelor’s mark sheet is still pending; the offer becomes firm once transcripts are uploaded.
- Deferral policy: Admitted students may request a deferral of up to one year (two semesters); LDS applicants deferring for missionary service can extend further.
- Waitlist: Uncommon at BYU; when used, decisions issue by mid-June.
Brigham Young University Documents Required
Indian applicants prepare the same document stack for Brigham Young University whether they are LDS or non-LDS, with the ecclesiastical endorsement being the single BYU-specific add-on. Attested and translated copies are needed where records are not already in English.
- Valid passport: Bio page copy; validity beyond intended study period.
- Class X and Class XII mark sheets and certificates: Attested.
- Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts: For PG applicants, with WES or ECE credential evaluation.
- Statement of Purpose (SOP): Programme-specific; usually 800 to 1,200 words.
- Letters of Recommendation: Two for undergraduate; two to three for graduate applicants.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Especially for PG and MBA files.
- English test score report: Official TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo results sent to BYU.
- GMAT / GRE score report: Where required by the programme.
- Financial proof: Bank statements or affidavit of support covering at least one year of tuition plus living costs, needed for the I-20 issuance.
- Passport-size photographs: Digital copies to the university’s specification.
- Ecclesiastical Endorsement form: Signed by an LDS bishop or the Non-LDS Endorsement Office.
- Signed Honor Code commitment: Part of the application file.
Brigham Young University Acceptance Rate
Brigham Young University’s overall acceptance rate is estimated at around 68 percent, based on published class-profile summaries — the university does not publish a single institutional figure and rates vary sharply by college. Marriott School and Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering programmes admit closer to 40 to 50 percent of applicants, while some humanities departments admit above 80 percent.
What the BYU Acceptance Rate Means for Indian Students
The headline 68 percent is not a soft admit signal. BYU screens for academics, faith commitment, and Honor Code fit — an Indian applicant with a 90 percent Class XII and a clean ecclesiastical file is not competing against the full applicant pool but against candidates in the same religious and academic band.
How BYU Compares to Other US Privates
Compared with private US universities in the same US News band (national universities around rank 110), BYU sits noticeably more open than Boston University or Northeastern, and more selective than most large state universities in Utah and the Mountain West. Its Best Value ranking of 17 in US News 2026 reflects the tuition subsidy that keeps costs low.
Insider note: Indian applicants who complete the ecclesiastical endorsement and Honor Code documents early — before submitting academics — see faster processing than those who leave the endorsement to the last two weeks.
USA Student Visa Process for Brigham Young University
Indian students admitted to Brigham Young University enter the US on the F-1 student visa, issued once BYU sends the I-20 form. The steps run in parallel with acceptance and are largely federal rather than state-level. Complete country context sits in our F-1 visa guide.
Once the I-20 arrives, pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (₹33,075), complete the DS-160 online form, book a biometric and interview at a US consulate in India, and carry the financial proof used for the I-20. BYU international admissions typically issues the I-20 within two to three weeks of confirming the deposit, and Indian applicants for Fall 2027 should target visa interviews between April and June 2027. Post-arrival, students register with BYU International Services within 30 days of arrival to activate the F-1 record; STEM graduates are eligible for 36 months of OPT (12 plus a 24-month STEM extension), and non-STEM graduates get 12 months of OPT.
2026 update: The US Department of State continues to prioritise F-1 student visa slots for the Fall intake, so Indian applicants who receive an I-20 by April 2027 should book an interview slot immediately — Mumbai and Delhi wait times peak in May and June.
Brigham Young University Admissions Tips and Checklist
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Brigham Young University over recent cycles. They cover timing, sequencing, and small planning decisions that convert borderline files into offers.
- Start the ecclesiastical endorsement 3 months early: Non-LDS Indian applicants need to identify a local clergy contact or use the Non-LDS Endorsement Office, which can take four to six weeks to schedule.
- Book English tests by September 2026: For a 15 December priority deadline, IELTS or TOEFL results must reach BYU with buffer for retakes.
- Request Class XII and Bachelor’s transcripts 8 weeks before the deadline: Indian boards and universities take four to eight weeks to issue attested copies.
- File WES or ECE evaluation by October 2026: Graduate applicants need the credential evaluation completed before the December priority window.
- Send GMAT or GRE scores directly to BYU code: Marriott School (MBA) is code 4019; verify the graduate school code on the department page.
- Apply by 1 February 2027 for scholarships: Merit aid at BYU has its own earlier deadline than admission itself.
- Prepare for the honor code commitment honestly: Interviews and endorsement forms probe for consistency between what the applicant writes and what the ecclesiastical leader confirms.
- Confirm SEVIS payment and DS-160 by April 2027: Book the visa interview within one week of receiving the I-20.
Brigham Young University’s admissions story runs on two rails at once — an academic file that looks familiar to any US private, and a values file that is unique among Indian applicant options. Fall 2027 is now the active cycle, with a 15 December 2026 priority deadline for undergraduates and programme-specific December-to-February cut-offs for graduate applicants; Indian students who close their endorsement, transcripts, and English tests by November convert offers fastest.

Overview
Growing up, I watched as my older siblings, as well as their friends, went off to college, many to BYU. When they came home for breaks I heard stories of professors who cared about their students and their work as well as peers who had similar goals as them. These qualities are what made me interested in attending BYU. The application process was fairly simple - a single application and application fee that allowed you to send your answers to all 3 of BYU campuses at once. I chose to attend BYU Provo, the most competitive of all 3 campuses, due largely to the quality of their nursing program and the academic rigor they were known for. As I only applied to 4 schools total - the others being BYU Idaho, University of Utah, and Utah State - I was relieved to have gotten in. Besides their academic programs, a huge draw to BYU for me was their low price tuition and the scholarship package I was offered as a result of my ACT score, class rank, and GPA. I was accepted with a 34 ACT score, and a 4.0 GPA, although I credit my acceptance more heavily to my variety of extracurriculars including leadership positions and volunteer experience.
Overview
It was the Least expensive school that I could go too in Utah. That is why I decided to go to Brigham Young University. They also are a good school that is respected by others. They have good programs.
Scholarship
I got financial aid but I had to write a letter to BYU telling them my situation and my parent's income reports.
Overview
I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints so the tuition is less for me, which is great because college is expensive!! I also like that the environment is really Christian and there isn't any drinking or crazy partying.
Scholarship
BYU has a scholarship application that's due once a year, usually in January. You can also file the FAFSA and receive grants from the Federal government if you are eligible. It's usually really difficult to get a scholarship.
